I don't know why but a foldable windows phone makes perfect sense.
It does exist
@@greatlake_editz A good one.
There is a foldable windows phone.. which is a piece of shit.
@@greatlake_editz your incest Patents also exist
Foldable windows phone would be perfect
Oh man, how I miss Windows phone UI each time I see video like this. I gotten used to Android by now but Windows was ahead of everyone in terms of usability and fluidity. And the live tiles was a killer feature, nothing comes close to the look and feel of live tiles even by now (Android widgets all have their own look so a screen full of them looks like mess and iOS has them hidden)
I hated live tiles. I’ll love the androids interface more. iOS second place and windows phone as 3rd place for me
Windows CE was is a bit older, I'd love to see a variation of that UI too. Let the hilarity ensue!
My daughter has an Alexia exclusive colour floor lamp at her college dorm.
Kinda curious if I give her my spare S7 for turning on the lamp instead of the little speaker with it skinned in Windows. Freak out the RA and mates
I loved windows phone too!
I'll never get over Windows, it was the best mobile OS
My old Nokia windows phone was awesome. If windows phone ran android apps they'd probably still be in business.
Wow, I was not expecting that today! It made me, once again, realize how much I loved my old Windows Phones. I much preferred it to Android.
SAME. Man, I really missed the clean UI and how I could look at everything at a glimpse
I had a lumia 800 and 1020 they were great phones until the lack of app support made them very difficult to use.
Kinda jealous you got to experience it!
@@MarkSpurrell I still have them still picking up the lumia 800 it still feels unlile other phones. I think it was milled from a single piece of whatever plastic but its ergonomic excellence. The 1020 was ridiculous for photos especially with the camera grip. Unfortunately that just died one day, battery replacement didn't do anything. 😕
Bro i still want that 1020. It had the best camera at that time. Dont know if someone compared it to recent flagships. Aside from that. It was not going to be a good daily driver. Saw many reviews which said it was slow even after 1 year
@@moiz04 best way I saw it described was it was a good highly portable camera with an ok phone attached. It was slow to take pics as it had to process then for a good 4 seconds or so after so no rapid shooting. All things considered amazing tech for the time in a small package. The xenon flash was also insane
@@FPSNecromancerBob yeah it was well of its time. Just got killed because of Microsoft os and their policies. Nokia should relaunch this phone with upgraded specs. And android. Like Motorola did with razr.
The Microsoft phone was superb, I was sad to get rid of mine. Everyone who used one seemed to love it
The only old phone that i am using from time to time is my Lumia 930. Still working. Still loving it.
I loved mine
The point of a windows phone is to run x64 apps, imo. Really useful as a sysadmin. I think you could get Windows ARM to run but would require tons of customization
I use my SquareHome as my default launcher. I wasn't interested in the folding phone before, but what you just showed me in this video, I'm researching tonight. Thanks.
I actually like the Windows OS for Mobile. Clean and just Straight Forward
Although App Support was not great
App support was awful. The input reason I moved on from my Lumia 810 back in the day.
Still my favorite UI to this day. This with current hardware and pixel cameras would be the only phone I'd pay over $1k for. My dream 😂
Windows Phone/Mobile revival when?
Killing it with the videos!!
Used both. Productivity beasts.
My friends always told me I was in the minority for liking the Metro UI. Well, if that's the case, I'm glad to know I'm in good company.
i prefer the early aero ui but i think metro is still a really nice ui
You will soonly see a microsoft phone device runing windows 12 in 2024
So amazing
wow. this made me smile. I think a fold 5 is in my future. this is amazing. and man, all good points without even talking about dex
I've still got a couple of Lumia devices at home. Both working really well. I miss that simple and very fast UI.
Always a fold user, always upgrading, it's definitely worth it everytime, i love my fold 4. Gives you soo much value in return
I feel naked without my Surface Pro computer, being able to run Windows on a folding phone sounds very convenient. Is there anyway to switch back and fourth between Windows and Android though?
My first smart phone was a Sony Ericsson Xperia X1, it was before the days of metro UI, it ran windows mobile 6.1 "professional". I remember customizing it too much that my friends were both impressed and jealous! 😅
It had everything; a metallic build, touchscreen, stylus, physical keyboard, track pad, navigation deck, dedicated camera shutter key, a 3.5 mm headphone jack...etc. I miss those days when mobile phones were unique.
That was one of my favourite Windows Mobile devices, the thing was a pure beauty. My Fold devices in folded mode remind me of the Xperia, probably because of the narrow screen.
Been using Squarehome for about half a year now on my Fold 3. While a Win10 skin looks cool, I prefer using more tiles on my squarehome.
If I ever get a Fold, this is gonna be the first thing I do just for the fun of it.
This is so epic!! I've had many Lumias and still miss Windows Phone every day. What you did is very nice and makes me want to go back in time. 😏
Try Square Home... As an old Windows Phone user I decided to give it a try and I like it a lot more than I thought I would
Microsoft:
"We were the ones giving our support to both Nokia and htc, the smarphones with the fully support mobile OS of Windows Phone"
Samsung:
"Hold my Fold Product. I can do the similar thing with Fold 4, embracing the Windows Phone experience"
Edge is actually way better than chrome on android. On PC the difference is minimal but on android it's very noticeable. If you prefer chrome that's fine but it has no real benefits over other browsers like Edge & Duck Duck Go.
I prefer it because it carries over my bookmarks from PC. That's all.
@@MarkSpurrell edge does that. Don’t most browsers do that?
@@MarkSpurrell but that makes it "far superior"?? Okeydoke
People don’t really know that Microsoft is using chrome engine now for Edge lol
I like chrome because of its UX but performance it’s now the same with edge.
Only had one windows phone back in the day and can’t even remember which one it was, but I do remember using it and it’s still one of my favorites ever.
I remember back in 2008 turning my jailbroken first gen iPod touch's homescreen into Windows Vista. That would make more sense on a Surface Duo.
I actually did this to an Android phone I had several years ago. I actually installed a Windows launcher and an iOS launcher as well. It was like having 3 phones in 1 lol.
the windows launcher app is more representative of the wp look. am running it from s8 till now s22 and persons still amazed of how it looks
it looks FREAKIN AWESOME! 🖤
Oh man! Look at that UI! What a great job. One more enticing reason to buy the Fold (in the future if it can handle atleast small PC-based applications). Microsoft, work with Samsung pls! I will finally move from Note devices.
Loving my fold 4 currently. Definitely a power house and really enjoy using it for the time I've had it.
Same!
@@MarkSpurrell can I get a step by step? Please????
Citrix workspace should work perfectly on this
Launcher 10 is closest to perfection we can get to Metro UI on Android, it even supports tablet mode.
So does Square Lancher, plus it's waaaay more customizable and feature packed. Launcher 10 is missing that polished look compared to Square Lancher and even to Windows phone 8.1.
Launcher 10 used to be my go-to almost 5 years ago but it hasn't done much to improve upon itself.
@@valiantred
Really? I used Square Launcher 1,5 years ago and it was garbage lacking many of the Windows Mobile features, I know this because I own several Windows phones.
Although I will agree that Launcher 10 does lack polish and optimisation, its become better but its still could be better.
Nice project. As the others in comments, I also miss the Win Phone OS. The idea of - every live tile could be a widget for the app - was exciting to me, very functional and practical. MS should be more patient and support it more IMO.
If Microsoft made their phones like this, Windows phone will make a successful resurgence...as long as they have app support.
I've been using the Square Home on my android phones for many years. I set the tiles to have a 3D effect.
IMHO It's so much better than any other Android launcher.
I'm going to try the Win-X Launcher on my Samsung tablet. It looks great.
You can't imagine how much i appreciate that, but to give a clue: i had the first Android phone of my life in 22...and from 2015 to that i used the Nokia Lumia 830 and refused to let it go until it was impossible go on....
Do you remember
When we fell in love?
We were young and innocent then
Do you remember
How it all began?
It just seemed like heaven, so why did it end? 🤣+1👍
That's pretty cool!
I have been using Square home for the longest time on my Android. Used it first on my LG G8. What I like is being able to make a minimal screen all black and just have your icons and you can also nest icons. Such as for my Photo Editing apps ...just one is shown but if I click it it shows the other few I used the most and I can choose. And I moved over to the Moto Razr 2020 but have not updated it to the Square Home and the Razr is my daily driver but I still use the LG G8 as a secondary and also feel it takes better pics too. If I were in the market for a small folding table then yes this would be what I would want to do, then again I do have the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+ which I do use the Square Home....perhaps Win X- launcher will work on that? hmmm.
Great review and video.
I have the exact same Lumia 640, but the discontinuation of Windows Phone 8.1 in 2019 made this phone barely usable for online stuff, but still it's super smooth, Live Tiles are the best. Wish I could experience it at their peak
Than you so much for this video. I just downloaded the apps and love the look on the Fold 4. Now I just have to learn the Launcher but think this will be my new look for my Samsung Galaxy Fold 4.
Maybe folding phones are what the Windows mobile device market needed, it seems this device only works so well BECAUSE it’s a folding phone. Imagine an official Microsoft folding phone with the tile front screen and a windows desktop inner screen (or if you’re full mobile an option to keep the tile design on the inner display as well) and then having a mode similar to Samsung Dex but with an actual full on desktop ARM version of Windows 11
Lol "the far superior Google Chrome" they're basically the same browser
This is why I love android! Want to try something fun and mess around... Easy!! Another launcher I would recommended for a minimal clean look would be Indistractable.
Bro I watchef this Video 3 times. I never catch the name of the launcher you are using on the inner screen?
Now the question is, can it run cyrsis
It's been a long time since a phone was "fun" to use
I searched "Windows mobile 2022" bcuz i have a Fold 4 i wanna do this to also then found this video lol😆
I miss Microsoft's Metro...er...Live Tiles! Thanks for this video.
I have the outer screen on my zfold 3 in an old skool zune setup
Also Instead of switching home screens on open/close, I set my coverscreen layout as my default and set my routine to prompt me on open 👍
Surface Duo 2 here I come!
Ah Windows. Missed opportunity with the Duo
@Mark Spurrel
Just curious, for the windows icon on the outer home screen on Square Home launcher, what app/shortcut is it?
it's nice seeing some windows phone UI love on YT. 10/10. I still have my nokia 1520 phablet phone...ah memories.
I use tasker on my fold 3 to use two launchers, there's also video on that
Samsung needs to officially support this with dex
I had a Nokia Lumia Windows Phone. It was great. Unfortunately, people thought that Apple & Google were somehow less evil and more trendy than Microsoft at that time. How wrong they were.
I used a Lumia 800 - 925 - 950 back in the day (between 2012 and 2018) so I thought I'd give this a try. I installed Square Home on my Xperia 5 mk II and now I've already spent 4 hours deciding which apps are worthy of a tile on my homescreen. Curse you @Mark Spurrell for pointing me in this direction!!! And thanks at the same time, it's fun and I will use this as my default launcher for a while to see how it holds up in daily use.
What if...? U port an actual windows 11?😃 That would seriously love to see it!
Insane sir
I did it. Thank you for the video.
Metro UI looked best on a Zune HD in 2009. I owned a Samsung Focus, Nokia Lumia 635, and Microsoft Lumia 640. At first, the UI looked cool. I don't find it appealing any more.
This guy is a genius! Give him a raise!
I was using the Square Home Launcher until a few weeks ago, but I never got that good and genuine of a look. Please tell me how you achieved that, it looks genuinely amazing!
Thank you! I honestly just played around with the app for the better part of 6 hours until I got something I liked.
I use Launcher 10 because i like better the live tile implementation. And it's optimised for foldables if I'm not mistaken.
@@MarkSpurrell At about 4 hours of tweaking myself...
Icon packs like Whicons and importing windows icons as . PNGs will get you closer to the look. Changing the tile spacing to 80% and tile size to 480 gets it closer to the Windows Phone 8.1 look.
Also turn on Live Tiles and check out the transparent tile options.
Nice to see that other people enjoyed windows phone as much as I did.
New to your channel, great content. What's the wallpaper you used at the beginning of the video?
How is Chrome far superior to Microsoft Edge when they are both Chromium based?
Thats a luncher easy to download!
Very interesting explanation of the desktop kind of fun to play around with I'm sure. FYI it is beyond me why content creators play music over their voice. We came to hear and listen to you, not fight the music. For example, we have to concentrate on what you say and, at the same time concentrate on turning out the music, which is ridiculous. Stop with the background music we want to hear you. Many folks have hearing difficulties, so fighting the music becomes extremely annoying
Just be aware that 3rd party launchers disables the task bar and greys out the setting toggle switch. That's what I've encountered on my Fold 4. If anyone knows of a work around, please reply. Thanks!
I'm still using my windows phone so this could make me eventually switch to Android!
Problem 1: switching between screens effectively closes app. Just got to live with this.
Edit: This can be minimised by following the steps for selfie camera but adding all apps other than the 2 lanuchers to "if open". It's a bit iffy and doesn't work for all apps but still better than nothing. Or you could just live with opening the app again. Not really a big deal
Problem 2: Using the camera with screen open, switching to selfie mode will cause camera to crash...
Edit: So, the problem with this was that when you switch the camera over to selfie mode with the phone Open, what the phone does to display the camera image on the front screen is to change the folding status to closed even though your phone is still open. How you can solve this issue is to add another routine that goes... "If folding status closed and Camera app is open, close launcher" Because generally it takes a split second before the launcher actually loads, the close launcher will kick in and camera won't have a problem...
Regards to the problem of home button on outer screen, what I suggest is to add routine to that when screen closed and double tap home button, you launch the launcher. Best get around I can think of
I love looking at my townie friends videos 👍
Next: Windows 11 on Samsung
I still have my Lumia Icon 950 in almost perfect condition. Haven't connected it to the internet in years. I still play with it at take pics with it every now and then.
I miss Windows Phone
Oh the nostalgia of Win Mobile. This is the reason I never thought about to own a foldable. It's quirky, and I love it. Great video!
Thanks for a great video.
This reminds me of running my HTC HD2 Windows Phone on Android.
That was a lot of fun.
Current device is a LG Wing which is also truly amazing.
Your video is leaning me toward the Fold 4, something I thought previously would never be on my agenda.
But the LG Wing dual swivel screen has me hooked on multiple screens.
Oh yes, 3 Golden Retrievers here and one day we had 7 pups in the back of the Mini all pearing out of the box and into the rear window.
Fun days indeed!
Thanks again
PS I do quite a bit of custom screens using Nova Launcher and most importantly KLWP.
Have you tried KLWP on this device by any chance.
Thanks
Haven't tried KLWP on the fold 4 but I have used it a lot on other devices. Thanks for the kind words!
@@MarkSpurrell thanks for the prompt reply. I guess if it worked flawlessly on the Wing, should work well on the Fold 4.
Thank you
I miss my windows Phone ❤️
Great video as always. Microsoft should re-launch Windows Phone, I miss it
AGREED. They should just ditch the surface duo and make a new non-folding phone for the masses.
@@MarkSpurrell100%. Plus do it for around £500, with some Xbox perks thrown in, plus a similar premium feel to the Nothing Phone and Bob's your uncle
@@MarkSpurrell Absolutely! And don't make it a half-hearted effort, this time. Go all out on app support.
Personally, I would love to see LG provide the hardware for them.
My fold 5 keeps dropping and it still works :0
You could use Tasker and Autotools to actually switch between the two launchers as defaults. Much less janky.
왠지모르게 완벽하네요
잘 보고 갑니다^^~
It's 2022 and I've still got a lumia 930 in my draw, I love it and it runs 8.1 which is so much nicer than 10. I don't use social media at all, no Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram etc. I would legit use everyday if I could do mobile banking on it. Let's also remember how good that keyboard was!
Thanks for the Video, I have been using Square Home in my Samsung devices, ever since Microsoft abandoned the. WP and was actually wondering if and How Square Home would work on the fold,
Love the idea of the inner Win PC 2nd Launcher. Thxs for posting,
This looks awesome!!
Any way to get a step by step sent over to me???
"Far superior Google Chrome".
Me : "closes the video"
nah, you commented first :^)
@@MarkSpurrell This is a joke obviously. That being said, edge is a chromium based Browser. And if more lightweight/battery and ressource efficient. Give it a try, don't judge via Internet Explorer past
What about posting data for older folks who gets one. I'm changing to this from a Google pixel pro I need Android it's easier
I hope Microsoft is watching this. This is where Windows phone was supposed to go.
as a user of 2 windows phones back in the day, this is not a dumb video. i had a Nokia Lumia 800 and a Nokina Lumia 1020.
I've searched for a launcher that supports both screens like OneUI does. OneUI icon size is too big for my taste, even with GoodLock. Nova makes it possible but does not support 2 screens separately. So I'm using OneUI as it is the only launcher for 2 screens.
I used GoodLock on my S22 Ultra and I could make icons smaller than on Fold 3. For some reason, Fold version of GoodLock doesn't allow me to make them smaller.
Gringy video. Who does an entire video acknowledging windows, but at the same time constantly knock's it for being on an android phone? I'm confused, seriously😏 Luckily I don't gotta pretend, I gotta surface phone.
Microsoft can do a reboot on windowsill phone and also launch foldable phones in the flagship space
It's just so perfect UI for the fold phones
Not only that if app support was great in the past
Windows Phone would be the most used OS in the market
I miss windows Phone :-)
Imagine having this Launcher on Microsoft Surface Dual Screen Phone!!! 😍
I love the window launcher now I'm using it. Thanks for sharing.
If only MS hadn't given up and run away from mobile. I loved WP back in the day, and nothing since really compares.
Hi mark, is this unfold launcher can use keyboard and mouse? If it can it solve our problem how to use dex without outer display,
God Ioved the windows UI. It really was the best
All this praise but in 10 months the inside screen protector bubbles up and the screen breaks. Samsung don't honour the warranty because your phone of 10 months has signs of wear and tear. So if it has a scuff, you're doomed.
Can you please show how to get it on there?
better way (if fold status closed if app opened "inner screen launcher" then open outer screen launcher) doing it this way if you press the home button with the device closed it will open the launcher you wanted when you open the device the if statements are ignored because your first if is device closed. and the other one should be (if fold status open close outer screen launcher and screen orientation auto (turn off all the options to change to landscape) this will still allow for an app you are viewing on the outer screen to still transfer to the inner screen when opened.
