*PLEASE READ CAREFULLY* THIS IS A TEST -- With this video, we are trialling a new way of doing things: the comments section below has been switched ON but will be *moderated by a third party*. The upshot? You get to leave a comment below the video and I don't get tied up by comment moderation to stay focussed on making the next video or podcast as well as keeping the Darko.Audio website and Patreon up to date. That means more content for EVERYONE. Our new third-party moderator is under strict instruction not to approve racist or sexist remarks, URLs, (the seeds of) conspiracy theories or the unsubstantiated ramblings of grumpy geezers.

As user of streaming services I certainly prefer to stay in the service app to do what I want and not relay on third party components or apps. As a user of Raspberry Pi (thanks to you!) Spotify connect is perfect and I regret Qobuz does not have a "connect" option and must depend on upnp. Great videos!

Hi John, having just added some new Avalon speakers with my MSB system running a Lumin server decided to set up Tidal Connect mainly as a Roon user found the Lumin App very frustrating especially when wanting to use playlists which on Roon just work. The Tidal Connect idea just seems to make sense working directly instead of using additional software. Once connected works like a dream and clearly the sound quality is clearer to my mind with the huge benefit of the Tidal App being a dream to use. As you mentioned I’m sure people will start using this just like Roon or other Apps as the new standard which can only be good for music lovers.
Great review as always- love the added food analogies on one of your more recent videos as most hi fi reviews are duller than dishwater.

Completely overjoyed that my 5 year old CXN (v1) had a firmware update last week and lo and behold Tidal Connect appeared. Yes the update notes state no MQA, as that requires additional hardware.

Absolutely love your channel and your taste in music. I pretty much find at least one new song I want to add to my library from all of your videos. I am and always have been a Mac user and don’t have a pc.
I have never used streaming services for the only reason of the royalties model and the fact that the artists loose out. As an example when Radiohead released in rainbows On the choose what you pay model I chose to pay £20. And I also choose to pay extra on some vinyl purchases when possible. I have only ever purchased cd’s or records because I want to support the artists and I never stream on I tunes but I have purchased downloads via iTunes if I can’t wait to get to the shop to purchase a physical copy. I’ve alway hated iTunes and never found a good replacement for it until I started watching your channel. I have today just signed up to tidal thanks to you and now I feel a bit dirty for doing so. I’m also considering Roon and the M33. Thanks for that, keep the fantastic content coming.

So for a home sound system linked with tidal I only need a powernode2 and speakers is that correct?

OK, that was 3 year ago. I absolutely agree. For me a very important feature but it seems as if this has been removed. I can't connect to my Yamaha Musiccast devices.

    Hi John, love your channel.
Question about tidal connect, if I started playback from the Tidal app in my laptop, is there a way to control afterwards from the Tidal app on my phone?
    Thanks!

Damn, my AVR (Yamaha RX-V6A) doesn't seem to support Tidal connect.. also can't get Atmos music to play on the AVR. Bummer. What easy external solution would you recommend (connected to the AVR via HDMI)?

All of the various features available today and their non-ubiquitous implementation have put my system upgrading on hold. There are few standards. It's all very frustrating when one is contemplating big-money purchases. I don't want a multi-thousand dollar investment to be obsolete within three years, and be saying to myself, "I wish I had waited, I could have had THAT!"

This streaming is all rather new to me, not sure how it all works to be honest. At the moment I use Apple Music and ITunes on my PC plus an external speaker (YO-YO), however I’ve just bought some SX60 speakers to accompany my Cambridge Audio amp and a BOS i2S DAC hat to pop on a RASP, thought I’d make my own streamer to learn about it all at first. I think Volumino has a Tidal connect app add-in, not sure if it’s possible to get an Apple Music equivalent. No idea what rune does, other than costing a lot of money or if rune works with Apple Music. Tital looks better than Apple quality wise so switching seems like a good idea.

Very interesting project all solutions for different and some times the same problems. I am juggling the same products, various dacs, raspberry pi, volumino, etc . On the quality front check out a video from White Sea Studio on streaming services where he compares them all against the master version.

With the new apple music lossless, we have to use Airplay 2 to connect with Bluesound. But The issue with AirPlay 2 is that it only support CD quality (16 bit/44KHZ), not real hi-resolution audio, unless Apple releases an updated version

Ive had a Raumfeld connector for years plugged into my amp and its brilliant, its replacement all my analogue sources it's that good. High res compatible, and i can stream Spotify and Tidal to it from my phone no worries. A bonus point is that it has Chromecast built in, so ive added lots of google nest speakers to the "group" around the house and they all play together, its great! Raumfeld were sold to a company called Teufel, but they still sell the connector box. Check it out! Very simple and affordable way to update an existing hifi and add high quality streaming.

HI, I'd like to share my experience with Tidal connect.
I don't know what happens with Tidal. But in my humble opinion, it's far from Spotify Connect. The main reason that I found is:
It's not possible to share a session between devices connected to the same network. (Android, Apple, Mac, LG TV, Wiim, Computers). For example, with Spotify, I can change the song on my TV or any other connected device without any problem from my cellphone, but with Tidal it's impossible. Indeed Tidal Connect doesn't have the possibility to recognize all my devices. I'm one more of the thousands of users who are waiting for Spotify HIFI to get rid of Tidal.

Or I buy a 2i streamer and use Tidal Connect there, guessing it’s DAC is better than Yamaha 303
