The original Z199 was introduced for the 7548 range quartz diver in 1978. And it ended with that range in 1985. Not every 7548 model got a Z199 bracelet, most were on the GL831 rubber strap. Average price of the 7548 in 1978 was about $300 (equiv of $1200 in 2021), so they were no F91! The Z199 is highly coveted by collectors and enthusiasts and hardly ever sold on. All of these factors combine to explain the rarity and expense of a genuine Z199 when they do appear for sale.
The later SKX (it's case and dial near straight copies of the 7548 but with some annoying differences) came on a cheapened copy of the Z199. Movement wise there is no comparison.
This Uncle Z199 is a welcome product.

The screw pins are a great upgrade on the Z199. The hollow end links was always one of the weak points of the original bracelets, it's just a pity they aren't solid. I still have my original skx007 bracelet, and I love it, it wears well, doesn't pull arm hair, and moves with your wrist. The uncle seiko replacement is still a great price for a replacement bracelet. Great review.

I bought Uncle Seiko Z199 for SKX013. It looks awesome and is lightweight for solid links BUT I had a bad luck with this Uncle Seiko bracelet. My end links don’t sit flush with the lug as shown in his website. There is about 1.25mm gap. I have one screw pin in a last link to clasp bent. I took me a while to unscrew that bing and look closely it is not straight. A couple links feel sharp and dig into my wrist, not very comfortable to wear all day. I notice links get scratched pretty easily after a few hours wearing. I really want to like it but I can’t. I’m going to keep it but probably for a week. I will go back to the SKX013 stock, nato strap or Yobokies BOR. I bought Uncle Seiko razor-wire in the past too and that one I wore only a few times. Hope you have a better experience with Uncle Seiko bracelets than mine.
Eric, I believe the Doxa divers used a beads of rice bracelet. And yes, Larry makes quality stuff. I bought his oyster bracelet for my SKX and love it. Another good and well considered review.

Have you tried his Razorwire? Just ordered one and can't wait! Also, there's nothing wrong with good quality hollow endlink and a good pressed clasp! I prefer stamped clasps as they seem much slimmer than a milled one...
How has the Razorwire been so far?

I kinda switch between the stock jubilee and a Barton elite rubber strap, depending on my mood, but that beads of rice looks pretty sweet. I couldn't care less about solid and links.

I like the Uncle Seiko bracelets , but Id prob ditch the clasps and re-attach stock Seiko clasps instead . Thats what I did with my strapcode super jubilee , and now its perfect . Not to mention it now has a divers extension , although I wont use it , but i like the divers ext on seiko clasps because it is articulating , and conforms around the wrist nicer . Cheers .

Well the skx bracelet that came with my skx007 have solid links. I think not all skx bracelets have folded links.
Calvin Tan Snap! I bought a recent skx007 and it came with solid links. Although the centre links were bent steel.
The fatter links on the stock jubilee bracelet are solid but the inner smaller links are still folded and hollow. The z199 is solid throughout every single link.

It seems like the brushed finish on the z199 doesn't match the SKX case finish? Or is that particular SKX polished?
S L The skx was used quite a lot so the brushed surfaces appeared polished. The finish just got more polished over time. The bracelet does match the finishing on standard SKX's

Probably not, Orient make their own stuff and it's not really interchangeable as seiko stuff is.
