This whole show was just HYPE!! Thank you everyone for checking in weekly we hope you enjoyed our reactions each Saturday. Regarding the movie, we haven't seen it yet as we were happy with the anime ending on its own. We don't want to guarantee a reaction because we can't say if we'll watch it/react to it together but we are aware a lot of you recommend to check it out even in our own time!
Yeah, Gurenn Lagann is just masterpiece, ngl it's my favorite anime and now I watched it for the fourth time, can't wait to see yiur reaction to movie!
If you're worried about it having a retconned ending don't worry it has the same ending the movie only did some parts and fights differently but it still ends the same
The movies are essentialy upgrades of the series, like extended fights, improved animation and over all improvements. Doesn't change the story only makes more polished.
Fun fact: The author of Gurren Lagann said that he doesn't know how to draw an Universe, so he went with a Galaxy design. Those "Galaxies" they are using as platforms are actually entire Universes. The Anti-Spiral Universe is like one massive Universe containing many smaller Universes.
lol that makes perfect sense too, I was thinking "ok it's gotta be straight-up universes at this point". but even with them just being galaxies is fine, the scale is still so completely bonkers that it totally works
The fact that Kamina's presence is felt even throughout the last episode gets me so emotional And Simon's development is insane, he really became a man
Reading interviews this was the show that showed me how short term anime production is. The writers went from "All of the lights are our enemy" in ep1 to "All of the lights are our cousins" in ep 27 cause the writers were still figuring out the story as the show was in production. Episodes were being written only weeks behind airing dates as opposed to months like in a western productions.
I've seen Gurren Lagann probably 30 times, it's my go-to show when I need to kick myself back into being my best self. It was a joy having one more go around seeing you guys react to it.
I first watch this show in 2013/14. And even after almost 10 years since then, it remains my favourite anime ever. Its always a blast seeing new people get into this show specially newer anime fans that come from recent, mainstream shows. Really enjoyed your reactions, this and AssClass was so fun to rewatch with you both. There's tones of anime out there so im sure am staying subscribed to see your reactions to it all.
the speech with the whole Dai-Gurren leading up to the TENGEN TOPPA GURREN LAGANN is so sick every time "I've got the best wife in the universe" swing! when the OP comes in LAZENGANN RETURNS the lights in the sky are stars my favorite anime of all time
The ones you thought Planets are actually Universes. And the part where you thought Galaxy is Multiverse. The Author didn't know what Universe looks like, So he drew them like Galaxy. They were literally throwing eachother universes like Shurikens
You're not wrong about when you're down. The themes explored in this show have parallels in cognitive behavioural therapy, too - the cyclical nature of good and bad days, and how each good day can be made a little bit better than the last one. A little further, with each turn. People used to joke that Gurren Lagann cures depression, but for many of us it wasn't a joke. This show's saved lives. Now try Macross Frontier! THAT'S a fun mecha show.
i love this show more than anything it is easily my favourite piece of media of all time. as fast paced and epic it all is with all the bombastic fight scenes, there is a lot to take away from it and the themes are super thick and strong. all the lights in the sky are stars
Im new to the channel and managed to watch your reaction to the entire season just in time for today. An epic anime which always gets me excited, emotional etc no matter how many times I watch it. "Who the hell do you think we are!" A battle cry when dealing with everything life throws at us. Now Kill la Kill? I hope, I genuinely think you guys will love it too.
Absolute classic and still my favorite series ever. The show knew what its objectives were and nailed all of them with perfection. It never took itself seriously, made fun of itself and kept things fun and had full mastery of building up hype. The start of the show had a few slow episodes and I definitely enjoyed the show once the action started coming non stop. You should check out Kill la Kill if you haven't. While not as epic as this and with an arguably even slower start (with the "monster of the week" episodes), it's definitely a spiritual cousin to TTGL with great hype buildup, amazing music and nice plot twists once the story gets going.
One thing to notice about the drills the Anti spiral uses, it's made to resemble gears, not drills, which reflects their views as a cog in the machine of the system.
idk if you guys are planning on reacting to it, but I highly recommend watching the final fight in the Gurren Lagann movie if you haven't already. Somehow even more hype than the fight in the show, imo!
This by far is my top 3 anime in all of anime history. My other most favorite anime part of my top 3 included Gurren Lagann, Slayers, and Hokuto no Ken.
you guys started talking about this towards the end, but 2007 and into the later 2000s was an absolutely insane time to be into anime, especially if you weren't just getting in then. People who were born in the 80s and 90s had gotten into anime literally trading vhs tapes with each other by mail, or getting stuck with the limited selection of toonami and Saturday morning dubs, and now we were all getting our own computers and actually good internet. It used to be that you were lucky or super connected to be able to watch an anime the same year as it came out in Japan, and then years turned to months turned to weeks turned to days as people could connect with each other to actively send and translate tv rips. Its absurd to remember this stuff in the era of same say simulcasts, but Gurren Lagann hit at the right moment when everything was changing. Everything was getting faster, every community was getting bigger. Every english-language part of the anime fandom seemed to love GL, and there were Kamina glasses everywhere. People knew this one was something special, even as it aired, but it was oddly symbolic of what was happening on the internet too.
Gurren Lagann and Assassination Classroom Ends, These two Animes build up so good Now I will be waiting for Kill La Kill. Gurren Lagann, Kill La Kill both has a lot of the same Artstyle, animation, staffs
I’m so glad you guys enjoyed this show like we all did was my first anime that got me into the anime scene and now to see this journey end and another begging I hope you guys have a lot of fun and make amazing memories as we did
Along with the movie scene, there's also the official Gurren Lagann Parallel Works episode 8 that shows a bit of backstory before the events of the anime. It's very short but worth checking.
Both movies are just the entire series in movie format, with some minor improvements on looks and minor changes to how stuff plays out, especially the final fight.
This is a series written in raw emotion. If you try to go for detailed logic it's going to fall flat, but if you let yourself be submerged by its message of indomitable will, then you'll understand how much of a masterpiece it is. It's the pure optimistic human goodwill distilled in a 27 episode show. And I love it.
Getting hit by TTGL's drill is pure time-space annihilation. That drills hits every point of time. Past, present, future. Imagine you have a hammer that If you hit an area, the past ,present and future of that area will get hit too. Their attack transcends many dimensions
This is probably the only episode of any anime I've seen where the dub is overall on par with the original. Particularly, "Who the hell do you think we are!?" at the beginning and "My drill is the drill that creates the heavens!" at the end. Everyone was all in and hype af.
I wish there was one change made that would make the ending fight with the Anti-spiral perfect. When the Anti-spiral says to protect the universe, instead of "Of course we will. Humanity isn't that stupid.", I wish I could get the voice actors to record the line as, "Of course we will. Who the hell do you think we are?!".
The Japanese line translates more so to, "Of course we will. Trust in humanity." It comes off more like, "Your ideals gave a noble effort, but ours won out," tempered with Simon's go-to humbleness. A little different. Still not an echo/call-back. But a bit better than the dub/sub script.
I recommend this anime to any anime fans. To me, its the perfect anime, with the perfect ending and a legendary final fight. Its just awesome! My only regret is it ended too soon lol but its still perfect regardless.
Fun fact: those are not planet or galaxies, those are universe, so basically Anti-spiral was throwing Universe at TTGL x) It was stated by the creator that he didn't know how to draw universe so he drew them like galaxies
I'm still torn about the ending. It makes perfect sense for Simon's character to be able to handle the heartbreak of saving reality only to lose your wife. Like remember when he lost Kamina how he broke down and how it was obvious that losing Nia was going to be so much worse? Simon said fuck that and grew stronger. I just still hate how its a bitter sweet ending despite all the epicness. Like I get that Nia's death makes perfect sense as the capstone to Simon's growth. This is how far he's come, that he's accepting the death of his wife even though he could have used Spiral Power to bring her back. Love this show man. I always had a distaste for mecha shows so it took me quite some time to finally get around to watching TTGL well, well after its airing dates. I don't care if you don't like mecha, everyone needs to watch this show. And now its time for you guys to watch Kill la Kill. It is like a spiritual sister show to TTGL. Literally the best followup after watching TTGL and you guys have the fortune of being able to watch them back to back (if you choose to).
The movie 1st movie opening shows how lord genome become the spiral king and the 2nd movie fleshes out the ending a tiny bit more + makes the final battle more interesting. its worth it ;D
If you ever get the chance on your own, watch gurren lagann parallel works. They are alternate universe takes/ music videos. All official and animated.
This was my first anime ever..My dumb little 5 year old brain was going nuts over the anime, and Still to this day I love this anime. So you could imagine my emotions over this anime haha. It's my favorite anime ever. I can watch it over and over and I still feel so emotional. It's fucking fantastic. God I love gurren lagann. Row row fight the power!
Light in the stars are our spiral cousins How the shwo starts: with alternate universe where lights in the sky are our enemies. Would love to see a spinoff of that cobcept beggining and then intertwine them since they can go universe wide
You guys need to watch the TTLG movies. They are like an alternative Universe narrative. It has some amazing differences which make every moment from the show 100% stronger
and those mechs are not the size of moons, theyre larger than galaxies, they literally came out of the center of one, and they throw them around like weapons
You gyus should whatch the movie's final fight because it has a lot of extra stuff and it makes the end so much better. Plus some more details and even better animation
Way late to this, but I want to say: One thing TTGL does better than almost any show (or narrative, really) is unity of theme, story, and structure. The show repeats the same basic story on three increasing scales--like a drill. Episode 1 is the whole story in microcosm. The rest of the first half of the show is the same basic story the first episode told on a planetary scale. The last half of the show is the same basic story on an intergalactic scale.
I know this is pretty old, but after the last episode you should watch the Rise of the Spiral King backstory. It's available on youtube, and also the movie version of the final fight since it's different from the series and is a more climactic fight
Nia dying has always felt off to me. The thesis statement of the show is literally that as long as you don't give up you can and will achieve your dreams. Therefore the fact that they weren't able to kick logic out and do the impossible and save her is strange because it contradicts the message that we have throughout the other 26 episodes
The way I always saw it is that the show was never naive enough to have such a inspirational message without acknowledging there will be losses and sacrifices to be made. Especially with the early loss of Kamina (hell, even his dad in ep2) Instead, the self affirming message gets nuance in the form of Simon moving forward to make room for new generations as he said. Otherwise, he would’ve fell into the Spiral Nemesis trap and used his power like a god to do whatever without consequences. There’s a balance to be made; there’s ups and downs. To me, the perfect description for the theme of the show is “the indifferent cruelty of the universe vs the indomitable human spirit.”
Yeah way late but a part people miss is that the anti spirals were kinda right. And simon bringing nia back and basically using his power to halt death would eventually lead to the end of the universe. And simon could have done it to. But he understood what the truth was and accepted it. Death is it. As its meant to be. And like you guys said seeing gimmy developing to the end and struggling to accept what all the heroes we watched all come to terms with, chefs kiss.
Loved your two's reactions. I recommend Hunter x Hunter (the original, where Kishimoto - Naruto creator - got his ideas for a few characters from and with Togashi's blessings) and Cowboy Bebop.
Suckes that you guys didn't react to the moive since i think the movie is way better than the anime; it ends the same but since they had more time to work on it, they were able to make the fights way better and also elaborate on some stuff, but I really enjoyed this reaction series. Gurren lagann one of my favorite animes, ROW ROW FIGHT THE POWER!!!!
If you're looking for other good mecha shows, give Star Driver a shot! If Gurren Lagann runs on manliness and nonsense, Star Driver runs on fabulousness and being extra. Also, check out the final battle in the second Gurren Lagann movie, Lagann-Hen!
I Hope you guys reac the movie too its still a same but the scene fight is unbelivable good Notting compare to scene fight in the anime eps if you worry about copyright thing the movie it self is quiet long ago so much save for watch and if you guys concern to reach the movie recommended to watch only final fight because in the beginning in the movie its like a recap so watch only final fight its much deferent in anime and unbelivable good
This whole show was just HYPE!! Thank you everyone for checking in weekly we hope you enjoyed our reactions each Saturday.

The movies retells a few fights but no change to ending but worth the time pls do try to do a reaction because it really is worth
If you want you can just watch the 2nd movie, doesn't need to asap after this final episode tho, maybe a few weeks/months for the "nostalgia"
I feel so sad about Simon and Yoko, bro they literally can't have anything nice for 2 seconds without anyone dying
at least Yoko has her students, this man simon has nothing going for him
the og gunman member died and only yoko and simon left which is really devastating
Bro… *It’s a canon event*
"Simon and Yoko can never have love" is definitely a canon event @Evilofhumanity
@@samwilson4597 Buta is more than enough bro

Fun Fact: Teggen Toppa Gurren Lagann roughly translates to “Heaven Piercing Crimson Face”
And "Heaven Piercing Crimson Face" is just a fancy way to say "screaming".
Lagann is stone face, not just face
Any use of gann is face, whether its Lagann, lazengann (spiral face) or Mugann (no face)

Same here.
Only reason i work out is because of this show no cap
I watched this anime as 2nd ever, after odd taxi, finished today. I just can't get it out of my head and i'm overloaded with emotions. Masterpiece
the speech with the whole Dai-Gurren leading up to the TENGEN TOPPA GURREN LAGANN is so sick every time

Although even then, they're still a very loose spiral. Even the anti-spiral cannot deny their roots indefinitely.
Notice that in the original opening scene, all the stars in the sky are “enemies”, but now they’re “brothers”. Good end.
idk if you guys are planning on reacting to it, but I highly recommend watching the final fight in the Gurren Lagann movie if you haven't already. Somehow even more hype than the fight in the show, imo!

Gurren Lagann is also how I found you guys. And yeah, The show isn't always talked about. But it's always remembered.
In the movie Simon is thrown out of Lagann and him and the Anti-Spiril have a fist fight. He then forms a drill out of his own blood to finish him.
Just binged all of this today; I loved reliving it with you guys

Funny you mention people finding your channel due to this show. I literally searched "Gurren Lagann reaction" yesterday. And here I am.
And now you know the narrator was older Simon the whole time what a way to end it him telling his story to the new generation
so amazing anime, hype reactions, thx for react this masterpiece

Easily my fav anime ever. Thank you for checking it out. You should watch the second movie as the final battle is better animated.
-Standing on a Galaxy
"They're the size of moons"
I really recommend the gurren lagann movies, especially the second one. They're mostly recaps but there's some additional lore and action content
This is probably the only episode of any anime I've seen where the dub is overall on par with the original. Particularly, "Who the hell do you think we are!?" at the beginning and "My drill is the drill that creates the heavens!" at the end. Everyone was all in and hype af.

It comes off more like, "Your ideals gave a noble effort, but ours won out," tempered with Simon's go-to humbleness.
Great reaction guys! How about Kill la kill now ?
Fun fact: those are not planet or galaxies, those are universe, so basically Anti-spiral was throwing Universe at TTGL x)

Light in the stars are our spiral cousins
How the shwo starts: with alternate universe where lights in the sky are our enemies.

Bro that galaxy was an actual universe
Writer confirmed that
tengen toppa gurren lagann. that literally means heavenly breakthrough gurren lagaan.
I can easily recommend Kill la Kill now that you've watched TTGL, i would love see it here 😄
Way late to this, but I want to say:
One thing TTGL does better than almost any show (or narrative, really) is unity of theme, story, and structure.
I know it's lame and cliche, but this show changed my life. "Fake it till you make it" is real and it has power.
i want everyone to remember that samurai jack stole simon and nias ending
Chuletas you guys see kill la kill next?
that final battle is insane
the movie version is even crazier
You should watch Lagann Hen, this battle is EVEN BETTER in it
Amazing reaction
bro they werent the size of moons, they were bigger than GALAXIES
Now that you finished the anime, it is highly recommended that you guys watch the movies too! The final battle is even better there!
Nia dying has always felt off to me. The thesis statement of the show is literally that as long as you don't give up you can and will achieve your dreams. The Anti-Spiral's English voice actor is amazing
Yeah way late but a part people miss is that the anti spirals were kinda right. Time for Kill la Kill
See the films now....they are worth it
The best thing with gurren lagann is that the first watching is not the best
I would be nice to see their reaction to the movie version of gurren lagan final fight it has even more emotion.
NOW GO WATCH THE SECOND MOVIE
Anti spiral is way stronger than simon and everyone else but he wanted a fair fight
now u guys 9000% need to watch the movie....
The dub is so much more hype. The voice acting puts why more spirit and energy into it than the sub for me
You need to watch movie version of the last fight
Great reactions to a great show…please tell me that Kill La Kill is on your list if you haven’t seen it already 😎
Awesome reaction! If you guys need another similar Anime like Gurren Lagann, you should definitely check out Eureka seven! ✨
Hope you guys watch movies (especially the second one)
+1 to watching the second movie
Tengen Toppa = Heaven-Piercing
FinalGOD
If you're looking for other good mecha shows, give Star Driver a shot! If Gurren Lagann runs on manliness and nonsense, Star Driver runs on fabulousness and being extra.
Also, check out the final battle in the second Gurren Lagann movie, Lagann-Hen!
There way bigger then a moon there as big as galaxy’s
You guys have to watch the movies. They are different
Pls watch the second movie pls i beg u! If u think this is op? Well second movie is more insane
I Hope you guys reac the movie too its still a same but the scene fight is unbelivable good Notting compare to scene fight in the anime eps if you worry about copyright thing the movie it self is quiet long ago so much save for watch and if you guys concern to reach the movie recommended to watch only final fight because in the beginning in the movie its like a recap so watch only final fight its much deferent in anime and unbelivable good
Ah shit, here we go again
highly reccommend checking out bestguyever gurran laggan video for a deep dive into the series a good 40 minute info on understanding the story
GURREN-HEN PLS!!!!!
