Glad you liked it, I really enjoyed this one and it’s great to see someone like Alyssa come out such a hard shift in belief and still be respectful and kind when talking about her previous world view.

Fairly new to your channel, but I was drawn to this video because I used to be mormon.
One part that I experienced and another ex-mormon experienced was the lack of understanding that there were other religions. As in, the existence of other religions didnt seem to exist in our minds.
I recall at one point when I was very young being friends with a non-mormon christian, and having a conversation with him trying to understand the difference between mormon and non-mormon christianity, and was unable to find a difference (I dont know how the mormon exclusive beliefs weren't brought up) and I determined that this wasn't another religion, just the same religion under a slightly different name.
I had had some issues with the religion, I thought a lot of the beliefs and stories were BS, but if everybody believes it then I thought I must be failing to understand something.
Then, in middle school U.S. history, my teacher was discussing something and mentioned something that conflicted with what I was taught (I dont recall the specifics, it was forever ago). I tried correcting him and he said, "well, thats what mormons believe" and then he continued on. For me, it was like loosening the rock that starts the avalanche. If this was what mormons believe, then that means there are non-mormons that don't believe this. This led me to looking at other religions and slowly realizing that my initial assessment wasn't far off.
It took me a long time to fully consider myself an athiest, and then progressing from there (I understand what I don't believe, but what do I believe). Many mormon habits persisted well after my deconversion. While I started my separation at age 12, I didnt start using "swear words" until I was 18/19, I didn't start drinking until I was 27, and I didn't start drinking coffee until I was 28/29.
It feels crazy how lasting an effect the church had on me, despite me exiting from it relatively early.
Thank you for this video! So far I've enjoyed every video of yours that I've watched.

4:47 He died 1844, so the “revelations” was in the late 1820s, right? Smith was riding the New York wave of “the second great awakening” to start his grift. 🐳🐳🐳
