- Let's talk about what I spent in the first 3 months of 2024 as a 28-year-old in Chicago! After completing a Low Buy Year last year, I wanted to continue my conscious consumption habits in 2024 as well. To see how I'm doing, I've been tracking my spending on everything from essentials like groceries, utilities and transportation to non-essentials like clothing, entertainment, dining out and more. I hope this inspires you to develop some conscious consumption habits of your own. Thanks for watching 💛

🙋♀️ ABOUT ME:
My name is Morgan and I'm a 20-something living in Chicago who loves thrifting, slow fashion (slow living in general), caring for the planet, tea (the liquid kind and the dramatic kind), being outdoors, having deep conversations, having frivolous conversations, and of course making silly lil videos. I hope you have a laugh, learn something new, or feel little less alone while you're here. 💛

I also live in Chicago and husband and I spend ~$500-$600 a month on drinks, coffee, and eating out. It’s a hobby/experiential thing for us too. Glad to hear we aren’t alone in that expense.
I crochet and I definitely recommend just searching on RUclips for patterns. I also use the patterns on the actual yarn ball, but those are a little harder to understand if you've never read a pattern. There's youtube tutorials out there on how to read patterns that are really helpful.
Side note as a Canadian I can't imagine paying for health care. I'm so sorry, it must suck and be expensive.
My hubby and I are doing the microcleans in Notion and we're so happy with it! Thank you for the inspo 😊 Greets from Belgium
Wow. Thanks for sharing. I am also taking a long hard look at how, when and where I spend my money. You've given me some great ideas and encouragement. Thanks for sharing.
I’m from Switzerland!😍 good choice for traveling😉 don‘t know what you guys are planning to do but I totally recommend spending 2 days in „Ticino“ (italian speaking part of our beautiful country) in Lugano✨
As a casual fiber artist, I wouldn't recommend such a large first project!!! If you are doing one piece of yarn the entire time, there is a good chance you will get bored and put the project down for a really long time!!! Nothing wrong w dnf ing a project, but idk if that be a good first introduction!!
If you have two or more yarn colors, then id recommend knitting small squares of varying sizes and stitching them together later !! You'll get the hang of knit and pearling, be able to decide which swatches you like the most, make something entirely unique and your own, and feel that satisfaction that is so important for new hobbies :3!!
I believe someone else already mentioned it but if getting into knitting making an account with ravelry and searching patterns there with their filters for knitting and blankets will absolutely give you an easy to navigate pattern searches (free and purchasable). I also super highly recommend some of the older tutorial videos from expression fiber arts on RUclips because some of her videos really helped me understand some things that would confuse me in patterns for both knitting and crochet. She had the clearest and least obscured video demonstration and verbal descriptions that were easy to follow when I was 0:02 starting out & I think those videos are still on her channel. You also have a few really nice looking yarn shops in the Chicago area that I was sad I couldn’t work into my schedule when I was last visiting.
Thank you for those suggestions-very helpful!!
Have you looked into farm CSAs for veggies in the summer? I think it could save you money and its supporting local. CSA stands for community shared agriculture. You pay a farm up front in the spring and receive a bunch of goodies every week for an allotted amount of time. Usually between 9 and 18 weeks.
No I haven’t heard of that! Definitely something I’ll look into!
I appreciate you explaining what's essential for you in the beauty, skincare and clothing categories!! A helpful reframe :)
this is very helpful for getting thinking about my own spending. (earlier today I explained micro cleans to my sister and it reminded me to come check for new video)
Jenna Phipps has some great knitting (and sewing and crochet) videos!
Just discovered your channel and I immensely subscribed ! I so much love your content, keep making more of them ! PS : you look SO MUCH like Elizabeth Holmes, it’s so funny 😆🤍
I'm curious about how many clothing items you've purchased so far. I remember you mentioned you're hoping to only buy 15 items this year
Come to Albania, one year visa free for Americans - and cheap(er)
If you want to save some extra money, you and David could cut your hair at home!😁 It's pretty easy if you watch a few RUclips tutorials.👍🏻
