Most of those really early paragliding efforts were made with freefall canopies which were constructed from unproofed nylon so the sink rate was too high. PU proofed nylon made a lot of difference to development.
Some of those early paragliding wings were actually quite stable and never suffered any collapses in turbulence. I used to fly one called SPP-30 in USSR around 1990-1992
Looks like some of the early paraglider were using skydiving gear. I remember trying to paraglide with our skydiving rigs at Elsinore. Didn’t work too good.
Con esas alas Delta (Rogallo) y esos parapentes (cajoneros) comencé a volar yo, hoy en día continuo volando, pero con material nuevo, que tiempos, eso era riesgo, no lo de ahora, jejejeje
Como nuevo participante en el deporte, gracias por pavimentar el camino para las futuras generaciones! Viendo las viejas alas me sorprende que el deporte no fue clausurado por las autoridades!
Que pánico tirarse con aquello. !! Cuántos tobillos, cabezas y vértebras se habrán roto en esos primeros años de experiencias. Gracias por vuestro esfuerzo. Y el de los traumatólogos.
