Power Pop at its finest. Thank you Mike Zelenko, Ted Ansani, and Jim Ellison. Saw Material Issue a ton back in STL early 90s. Awesome hooks, driving rhythm...so much pop for three dudes. Long live MI.
I'm sorry to bother but material issue and teenage fan club was my thing. Short story long does one of them sing here I am like a leaf that fell from a tree again
@@davidkruse3258 Wow. That's a cool lyric. Found it. MATERIAL ISSUE, INTERNATIONAL POP OVERTHROW: "Lil Christine" ruclips.net/video/qnDf_Hhps28/видео.html
My friend who went to Northwestern and was plugged in to the Chicago area music scene said three bands to watch for were Smashing Pumpkins, Urge Overkill, and Material Issue..... Smashing Pumpkins hit it big, Urge Overkill had the hit from the Pulp Fiction soundtrack, but Material Issue may have the best of them all
Material Issue are a hugely underrated rock band, this is so far my favourite song from them, the lyrics are fantastic like come “I want love, I want drugs, I want sex, I want affection…” and so on very clever and lovely lyrics, I kept on listening 👂🏻 to “What girls want.” repeatedly all night until I fall asleep 😴. I lost count on how many times I listen to this song. RIP Jim. Another life taken from this world 🌎 way too soon.
Power pop of the most rockin' variety. I remember seeing "What Girls Want" on MTV '120 Minutes' two or three times, and that was probably the last time Material Issue were really seen on national tv. Such a great song. Honestly, I preferred this kind of rock over the grunge that was much more popular at the time.
Yeah for sure. For me, nostalgia plays a key part as well. I was in junior high and life was just simpler in general. Everything was just more fun, including the music.
They were so terribly under rated and never got the chance to really make it big. One of my favorite bands of all time. Then again all the REALLY good bands never get the due justice.
I think if there was terrestrial radio with live DJs spinning records, I might think about segueing from this to The Romantics' "What I Like About You." Thematically and sonically similar, IMO. I was about 15 years removed from my radio days to attempt that!
I remember talking to him two weeks before he took his own life. It was at The Smart Bar in the basement of The Metro. He could have been an underground legend. Too bad. He was that good.

What kind of Christian rock do u listen to? Because the Christian rock I listen to is way harder than this. Christian rock is not like your grandmas old hymn music anymore. Smh!! Ignorance is bliss!!!
