  • Crossing the Nullarbor I just really wanted to capture my experience and put it on youtube. It was 14 hours a very long drive but a fun one.
Starting in Ceduna and ending in Esperance.
I'm just a guy making videos for fun of my experiences not making money off of these, so I hope you enjoy.

Great footage, in 1979 I was backpacking (from UK) and did Perth to Sydney on a Greyhound bus......4 days non stop. I swore that as long as my backside pointed down I would never do it again. No technology those days to record what you did and I'm very grateful to be able to see all the things I missed. In those four days I fell in love with Australia and I still live here in love with Gods country :)

    Great video you made
, it is a good drive across Australia , and the nullabor
I think it's even better if you can do it slow ,
I sat on 80 kph in an old rattly military 4wd many years ago 😁,
Stayed in rest areas mostly ,
as a city dweller it is not often you can wake up and hear absolutely dead silence apart from a vehicle breaking the silence every now and again.
I remember getting to a servo at one stage just as they where shutting up shop , I had to sleep in the car next to the Bowser 😆.
Night driving you see vehicle lights coming at you and dip your high beams, wait and wait and wait , 10 minutes later that vehicle finally gets to you 😀.
Every one should do the nullabor at least once , it is a good drive .
All the best to you peeps.

    • @DannyBlack

ya i agree.. if we werent in such a hurry to get to the other side i would have liked to stay... also because we didnt know much about the nullabor and everyone was "warning" us about it we were reluctant to stay ... now that i know more i would do it differently ... sounds like you had an awesome trip!

@@DannyBlack thanks mate , yes it was good .
On these trips when you first start out , some of us tend too take way too much stuff :) , and maybe spend too much on preparation , i did anyway , but it is all a learning experience , and you meet some great people out on the road , after a long break im going bush at easter , who knows i might end up on the nullabor again :) .
Good chatting with you mate , all the best .

The thing with the Nullarbor and the Ceduna SA to Norseman WA drive through the Eyre highway, is that no video can capture the feeling of utter inner peace and magic that a night of camping by the cliffs brings you. That road was getting built when we passed through in early March 1975, I think it was almost finished but wasn't officially open? a sign read that you got fined if you were caught on it so we had to drive on the last frontier route through the desert heading west at night dodging wild life & holes breaking a window & eating tons of red dust, to lesson the constant vibration from the ruts a local said go like the clappers and pray that you not hit anything? LOl, it was an awesome experience, best road trip ever. Looks like remnants of the old road are still visible in this video?
We made the return trip during the day, Wow what an experience that was had to stop and wait to let the road train juggernauts go past past we could see their dust clouds coming toward us from miles away. Stopped and gave a trucker some food and beers he had lost his load and was in for a two day wait for a crane and help, one road trip that will be firmly stuck in my memory for ever.

Don't drive it at night, the Roo's and Wombats come out big time and highly likely you will hit one at night and a Wombat can flip your car if you hit it, even a KW bull bar will suffer a fair size dent hitting one.
If you follow a truck close be ready for a mass of mince fur, bone and meat to fly out from the back of the trailer when the truck hits it (m/cyclist beware.) and that leaves a mess on the car that will stink bad when you stop in the daytime heat.

@@DannyBlack surprisingly not too many, we stayed overnight on a closed off highway the furst fay and left at 3 in the morning to continue driving, we then stayed overnight in remark as we were ahead quite a few hours, it then was real stormy so we just drove and only stopped for petrol and toilet stops but it was overall a great experience, we didn't get to stop and see many attractions but we saw the big gash and orange, and quite a few things you see from the car, we also stopped at the bight, 😂

Thanks for the tip!! Ya as we were driving there were so many places to stop and explore, had we known this before we would have planned it out longer. How long would it take from Melbourne to Perth on that road?

  • @brickpaver1
    @brickpaver1 7 лет назад +1

Great video mate, especially the drone footage. I've done that crossing by road 40 times between 1964 and 1999, from the days of durt tracks, black and white brownie box camera and 8mm movie film, through to sealed road, Canon SLR camera and video 8 movie camera. I'm just about to do that trip again in teo weeks time,..over to Perth and W.A. and back to Adelaide, over a 4 week trip only this time I'll have better cameras, still and video,...and a Phantom 3 drone. I am assuming from your drone footage that you were able to use the 'follow me' mode in the Phantom,..very, very effective from the air. Very interested to know if that was controlled by the passenger or by automatic setting and at what speed was the drone able to 'keep up' with your car. Basically, could it all be done on automatic by just the driver. The one 'ammusing aspect' was your comment,...'City' of Cocklebiddy,....😄...They'll love you for that title,..lol
