Hey Kirk, Thanks again for your video. And thanks to Tony for all his answers. I know you talk a lot about Bryson. But I see a lot of your concepts in Wolf's swing and setup also. He has a massive front heal lift which he uses to generate an enormous amount of power. The shark was also a big believer in the front heal lift and believed in using the knees as pistons to drive the club head speed.

I recommend them to all my customers. Testing with them has indicated that their is an advantage for most golfers as the thicker grips do not slip in the hands during the swing and with my Setup 4 Impact swing there is no need to manipulate the club through impact.
About grip size. Obviously a fitter would help. But for this type of swing, what would you recommend for smaller hands. I currently use a midsize grip and feel fairly comfortable with them after switching from club stock grip (standard).
just noted that bryce's stance is much wider now and his shots more powerful than ever. Moe did note that your knees how to be outside the line of your feet so I guess its whatever works for you. I played golf with a conventional swing for around 24 years. then switched to a single plane swing, just got it right when I stopped playing 4 yrs ago. now Im restarting and having to relearn the single plane swing ;) cause it def helped and was much easier on my back
Just shot a 76 following your steps.... 13 strokes better than my previous round. Thank you for saying that’s it’s not ultimately important to stretch out ala Moe. I stood slightly upright much like your swing and my back and arms felt super relaxed the whole round. Thanx.
Do you try to keep your elbows tucked in similar to what they call the Hogan arms? And could you also explain in detail the rotation of the right arm because being a previous natural golfer they called it Sunnyside up is that how you hold your right arm?
I do not think about my elbows at all during the swing. When I setup I have my right elbow lightly touching my stomach. My right for forearm does not supinate in the backswing or pronate in the downswing because of how I setup with it in a position where it does not need rotation to move the club.
Just came across your videos. I’ve been doing exactly what you’re teaching with my driver and fairway woods in the last year and it’s been amazing. My irons I haven’t got worked out yet but maybe with your videos I can. Trying the Moe Norman way wasn’t working with the irons and I think it’s because it felt incredibly unnatural. I think trying to use a more normal set up with the irons and using the higher hands could do the trick.
Exactly. No need to overcomplicate. Trying to copy Moe means years of work to maybe improve some day in the future. I want people to start improving today.
Now with this set up for impact do I need my irons more upright or flat? I started with getting my hands high at address and it's working wonders for my game. I'm not sure if I'm toe down thru impact now. All simulator work so far since it's winter here in Minnesota. Also are there instructors in my area?
Do you have any tips for being able to keep your head more still through impact? I’ve always struggled with my head going backwards at impact and it is hurting my ballstriking, I would love to hear your feedback, I love your work to simplify the swing and make it easier, thanks!
Start with the head where it needs to be at impact. Your head is likely moving back to get to where it needs to be which is over the back half of your stance. So I have people setup there with the head and with the hips moved left as they also need to be at impact. More at setup4impact.com
Thanks for your wonderfully informative videos. I wanted to know what size jumbomax ultralite grips I should use for a wrist to longest finger length of 7 /8". Also, do you have any thoughts of whether a person would benefit from having larger grips for woods and hybrid clubs to prevent them from turning over? Thanks for your reply. Artie
Really enjoyed your view on the 1 plane swing after having tried the Mo Norman swing .... a lot easier Also do you have any thoughts on an issue that I encounter with ANY swing, that is that For some reason I cannot finish my swing with a proper follow through. I always get “blocked” into an extension forwards.... Thank you
Ok, I have made massive improvement after applying your teachings. One thing I "discovered" that I haven't heard mentioned anywhere is the final part of the follow through, when the club head turns and points almost 90 degrees to the swing path, also the hand path, instead of pointing away from the direction of the ball flight. After correcting my bad habit of flipping at impact I realized this was the key. Focussing on the finish gets my hands on path, ahead of the club and square to the swing path. Is this something you teach.
Good comment on BDC's swing, and his results speak volumes. A 58 recently on the LIV tour. Btw what are those weird "chickens" in the background around the 1030 mark.😂
I like your methodology. The simplicity and repeatability motivated me to return to golf. I sold my sticks and stop playing 8-years ago. I have not even swung a club either. I was a 12-handicap and didn't see how I could get more consistent or better. Henceforth my quitting. Since Covid-19, the PGA was the only game to watch live and it refueled my interest in playing again. After seeing Bryson play, his body type is exactly like me. I noticed his single plane swing and I was intrigued why he was the only player with that swing type? Anyway, I am watching your videos and I really like them a lot. My questions are about the ball position on the course and bunker shots. Maybe in future videos, you could address that. Jim W. Orlando, FL.

what ar you thoughts on todd graves teaching of moes swing ... ive tried it with soem success but i do struggle with standing so far from the ball on shots from the turf
I worked with Todd and his team for a couple years and they do a good job trying to get people to exactly match Moe's swing. Unfortunately most people struggle trying to ever come close to how Moe swung a golf club. My philosophy is to help people improve their golf games as quickly as possible. Every person is different and wasting years to match Moe has proven to be a waste of time for most golfers who have tried. I know people trying for over 20 years who still cannot match Moe. In fact I do not know anyone including Todd who can match Moe's ball striking. It is quite the same as nobody ever matching Hogan's ball striking. Moe Norman stood much too far from the golf ball as proven by his need to drop down about 8 inches in the downswing so as to get close enough to make great contact. He perfected that move but nobody else has. I have found that by customizing the concept of setting up on your impact plane that I can help people improve their golf games VERY quickly. That is my goal for each of my customers. FAST improvement so they can enjoy the game.
I really enjoy your channel. Any thoughts on lie angle adjustments, due to club being more upright? Also, ball position, for different clubs? Keep up the great content!
Hi maesteo, lie angle is set for impact position and not setup position so if they were correct before S4I, they should still be correct. As for ball position with different clube, no reason to change any of that due to S4I, should be near the middle with wedges, working up to off the front instep with the driver. Tony Griffin Setup 4 Impact Master Instructor
Does Bryson stand the same distance from the ball with 5 iron compared to 9 iron ? Just stands up taller making same swing ? Since all irons are same length shouldn’t ball be in same position ??
I never try to do anything special with the right arm. At setup the elbow is slightly touching my body with the mid to shorter irons, but after that it does not touch.
I have recently gone from a strong grip to a neutral grip, and am having good results...so instead of my left thumb being a to the right of center, it is now in the center of the club...(I'm a right hander)..and my right hand is more on top instead of coming in at say a 45 degree angle. I do not keep my wrist stiff at the top however. Just the neutral grip will help you have more confidence coming through the ball...no more duck hooks. for hook or draw come down more inside...for fade come back more outside and lay off through impact with left hand leading. Hope it works for you. The neutral grip will help with pitch shots and chipping as well...and wrist are a bit more stiff on backswing. (ala Steve Stricker...)
Looks like you're using the JumboMax Light grips, Kirk. Are they Med, Large or XL? From a circumference and feel standpoint, what is the difference between them and a midsize grip? Is it weight only?
Even the small is somewhat thicker than a normal Jumbo grip. My hand measures 8 inches from wrist crease to longest finger. The Medium would also work for me, but I decided that I liked the small a bit better. The light grips are lighter than most grips on the market.
@@Setup4Impact Ah, okay, thx! The cost is hard to justify for me. Perhaps I could try one grip in a small. I though you were concerned about swing weight -- wanted the club head to feel a little heavier.
I have moved to your style of teaching SPS and thoroughly enjoying the simplicity of it. My biggest issue is an occasional shank appears and I can't for the life of me work out what is causing it. Any thoughts - my guess is the swing is too 'armsy' ??
swing path too much from inside through impact has the hosel moving toward the ball. Early release also plays a role. Drills on my site teach you how to fix it.
How do you stand closer to the ball with straight arms and not have the toe of the club be the only thing touching the ground? I do this and can't get the bottom edge of the club head to rest flat against the ground.
If you want to stand closer then you will likely need more upright irons. I recommend people keep the same distance from the ball as before when starting out.
7:48 "keeping the same distance from the ball" how does this work? When I go into a single plane position, my club is no longer flush with the ground until I back up
IF that is the case then you club likely does not fit your current impact position either. Many people identify this when they switch to Single plane golf.
I notice you look like you push down with your left heel ,is this a good way to start my down swing .I feel like i struggle to get something in my mind to start down .I think i start with my upper half when im hitting bad shots .Maybe i can say heel when i get to the top ???
I don't think about that. The left heel comes up slightly on the backswing and then with the transition it moves back down. Using my drills I work on getting my body to the impact position before the club gets there.
Kirk, one thing I wish you would do is hit more demonstration shots from realistic lies. You appear to hit most shots from a preferred moderate rough lie in just about every case. I find it much easier to hit from such lies vs. balls either laying down in the rough or even fairway shots, as it produces fewer fats and thins.
Hi Michael, I know Kirk goes to the back of the range (where they don't mow the grass to fairway height) to make his videos in order to stay out of the way and to avoid distraction. I assure you he can hit the ball even better from fairway height grass. (I have played golf with him and taught schools with him on numerous occasions). You should practice from lower cut grass if possible, because if you are hitting fat and thin shots, you are most likely using the hands rather than turning the body to bring the clubhead to the ball. You are correct, the cushion under the ball, much like putting it on a tee will allow you to get away with that. Tony Griffin Setup 4 Impact Master Instructor
At the range I am normally at now there is normally a spot with nice short grass which I much prefer. I would hit off a putting green if I had my choice. I find that the easiest to hit out of. For this video I chose a spot that the grass was a bit longer than I had hoped and instead of moving everything just shot the video there. If I could do it again I would have picked a better spot. I will do a video soon from off dirt. If you come is with a nice flat spot through impact as I do then the bare lies are no problem. For a lie down in the rough I have to move it back in my stance so as to come in more steeply.
If you setup on your impact plane there is no need to manipulate the clubface through impact. So a thicker grip helps one hold the club with a more relaxed grip.
I recommend Small, or Medium. I would try them both. I measure the same and chose Small, but like Medium also. Make sure to go with the UltraLite grips.
If the lead wrist is pressed forward at impact, but not at address, doesn't that make the club shorter, requiring either the body drops somewhat, or thin shots?
The leading wrist is forward of the clubhead at setup as it is at impact. If it is more forward at impact you will either need to stand a bit closer in your setup or drop closer with your body.
Its crazy to me how after watching a single video on this topic its so obvious what he is doing. Yet bonafied golf professionals by the dozen seem to misunderstand it daily. I must have watched a half dozen videos on people analyzing his swing without this knowledge and despite their superior knowledge of the game, I always feel like I could correct half their information. Its almost getting to be a bit embarrassing listening to them call him "robotic" and whatever else. I worry its turning into an Us v Them situation, where the standard dogma of golf is resisting any and all difference yet again, much like was reported during Moe's years. Its scary, but I do hope people in 2020 continue to question methods and innovate instead of rely on outdated messy information just because a person of affluence in the golf world sold them it. Try new things and do what works for you! Never settle for some one else trying to tell you who you are. Above all else, that is what I respect most about Kirk. He knows who his audience is and tries to support them growing to be better versions of themselves, not copies of him.
I’ve noticed the commentators they like to make fun of Bryson and undermine his way of playing because it’s not “conventional golf”and really don’t give him much respect but when he starts winning Majors they with have to pay attention.
They need to pay attention now, he's already won 6 times. He is a genius IQ playing professional golf, so naturally he wants things to make sense to him and he goes beyond conventional thinking to satisfy himself. He has found the better way and as soon as he settles down and perfects what he's doing he will be "the man". And I'm not referring to his body, I'm referring to his technique based physics and how the human body is built, it's possibilities and it's limitations (which he uses to develop his technique). I remember when Dick Fosbury revolutionized the high jump with his backwards flop...it was unheard of and ridiculed. but now nobody does it the old way any more. Also, the announcers are connected with conventional golf schools, (Faldo is, Miller and Kostis was too) big business and do you think they will say on a broadcast, "hey folks, looks like Bryson has developed a better, easier way...maybe you should try this too". So they pretend not to understand and instead talk about his one length clubs and such. OK I'll get off the soap box now, but to me it's just ridiculous that they are supposed to be professional golf "analysts" and they pretend to not understand what he's doing with his swing. Tony Griffin Setup 4 Impact Master Instructor
When I first started in my late 20s I swung like this, but needed a very strong grip i.e. Azinger/Duval. Then as I got better my grip weakened a bit. I just tried this with this grip and I am just hitting massive slices. I guess I have never learned to un cock my wrists at impact...ever!
Do not keep wrist stiff at the top and release the club at impact...with right hand coming through. You are probably allowing your left hand to dominate...try a more equal use of the hands at impact..both wrists coming through.
All these things work and is important ,but the single most important concept is to keep the shoulder rotation in the same plane .It solves 99% of inconsistency problems .Tom Watson,s one and only important swing thought .Watch all good players .They all keep the shoulder plane consistent ,meaning it does not change during the downswing .From Fred couples ,Bryson ,Tiger,Els,Phil ,Rory .Thank me later
I find the tailor made comment to the individual person to be right on. Copying another person is just about impossible due to varying height. These videos kind of set your thinking free relative to the single plane swing and how it fits from person to person. The only hands/wrists variation from start to finish in the swing seems to be the cocking of the wrists at the top and that is pretty automatic, am I correct? Consequently, in the backswing everything is a normal turning of the shoulders away from the ball?
Kirk your videos helped me so much just need to get the slice down a bit more. I was thinking about switching to ultra lite jumbomaxx grips as well. But the sizing is where I am concerned. Top of longest finger to wrist line is 7 3/8 inches. What’s the go to grip size here?
Either Small, or XS. I would try both to see what you like best. I think the XS is actually the same size as normal Jumbo grips, and the S is somewhat thicker. Try before buying them all. The slice is likely due to an improper setup. Most likely the trail arm orientation to club is off.
Kirk Junge thanks a lot. Yeah at impact with driver my face is wide open can’t seem to figure it out my grip is neutral. And my long irons are horrible. Mostly top them or block them right
I think its worth noting that the clubs he uses are all lofted less. I.e. he only has 29 degrees on his 7 iron where most have closer to 35. So his hands naturally don't have to get as forward at impact to achieve lower lofted shots.
I've tried it but for me i cant grip the club the right way dont like how it feels so i just hit the ball normal with a open stance swing back keep the wright elbow in feels like im throwing a underhand fast ball when my right arm releases
I always spent 70 percent of my time chipping putting hitting diff wedges around the practice grean to 50 yards back it will help u get up and down for par a lot i see these guys going to the range blasting a driver as hard as they can its so dumb to watch
Recently changed to the single plane. 22 years old and crushing balls way further than my friends. But 1 out of 3 swings I will hit a hook that is uncontrollable. I make good contact on the face but it hooks big time. Any advice from anyone on why this could be happening? Is it from my grip? Need help thanks
Most likely a leading hand grip that is in too strong of a position. I have a grip video on my channel. If you search Single Plane grip you should find it.
@@Setup4Impact Yes, but why are you using a JumboMax grip? Fitters generally suggest a standard grip if ones glove sz is med or large, and Midsize if it's XL. I understand there's a 10g weight difference between the Ultralight's and a midsize grip, but heck, they're expensive!
Not Very close at all, really. Bryson is much closer to the ball, doesn't restrict his trail foot to the ground through impact, doesn't dip his head through impact, doesn't keep his lead knee bent through impact to name a few differences. Tony Griffin Setup 4 Impact Master Instructor Sanford, NC
Bryson does use same length irons. My opinion is that he plays well in spite of the clubs. His stats with wedges and irons are not great compared to other tour players in the Top 10 like he is.

SO tired of others comparing Bryson to Moe Norman, there are way more differences in Bryson's swing then the few similarities. About the biggest thing is yes they are both single plane...but Bryson is doing it his way not some regimental way some teach Moe's swing...yet they try and use Bryson as an example.
I tried to watch your video but the audio was so choppy that I had to move on to something else. Not sure what the issue is but maybe I'll try to watch it later.
I learned that drill from William "Wild Bill" Mehlhorn in the 80's in Miami. He came up with the idea in the 1930's after noticing that his customers who used a grass cutting weedwacker suddenly were becoming better at golf. So at one point he had golf grips put onto them. The drill has helped me improve a lot. One of my Favorites.
all this knowledge means nothing until we put the hours in on the dirt. Learning to love the dirt and spending maximum amount of time on it will be the deciding factor between shooting in the 90's or 70's. don't practice everyday and shoot 90+ or spend 2 hours everday on the dirt swinging and shoot in 70's. No way around it unless you are a phenom.
You can spend hours playing in the dirt without good results if you practice the wrong thing. Most people have no idea what to practice let alone how to practice. You can simplify the swing by setting up on your impact plane.
Bryson DOES NOT single plane swing. He is in between single and dual, best of both. Single plane doesn’t break the shoulder height, Bryson is much higher over the shoulder/lead arm height. Huge distinction between dual and single plane.
Bryson sets up and makes impact on the same single plane. This is classified as a single plane swing. No golfer has ever had the club exactly on one single plane for the entire golf swing. I just call it Setup 4 Impact so people do not get confused.
That’s using Hardy’s definition. Prior to making changes to add power nobody has had their club in more single plane than BRYSON. Now, he will be slightly below, but the change in plane is really because he moved from hitting a straight fade to hitting a straight draw.😊
Notice Bryson has gone too far now with hit back swing and has lost control through the bag...needs to throttle back some and get control again. Anyone who plays a single plane swing knows there comes a time when you loose that single plane and over swinging is one of those times.....
This is a great tutorial. Not swinging like Bryce but to adapt the swing to me and sticking it on every swing.

Would love for you to make a video explaining why the larger grips work better in the S4I swing versus a standard size grip. Thanks!
I think standard grips are much to thin especially if you play setup 4 impact golf as I teach. I like the JumboMax ultralite grips.
just noted that bryce's stance is much wider now and his shots more powerful than ever.
Thanx.
AWESOME!!! I love hearing about my viewers successes!!! Keep it simple and enjoy!!!
Great video, put have trouble moving the legs. Can do a slow motion video of just leg movement.
I teach you how to move the legs/body/club perfectly with my drills in my learning program at setup4impact.com/online/
Just found your channel. This a great video!!! Especially the part about the wrist being straight with the arm at set up and impact. Thanks
Glad you like it. Removing variables makes the game much easier.
Artie
Sorry, it was supposed to be 7 7/8". Thanks.
I would recommend size small for your hand size.
Really enjoyed your view on the 1 plane swing after having tried the Mo Norman swing .... a lot easier
Also do you have any thoughts on an issue that I encounter with ANY swing, that is that For some reason I cannot finish my swing with a proper follow through.
This sounds like Drill 3 in my teaching program from this year. In the old program it would be ball striking drill 2.
Very well done
Thank you very much!
Good comment on BDC's swing, and his results speak volumes. A 58 recently on the LIV tour.
Btw what are those weird "chickens" in the background around the 1030 mark.😂
Chickens?? Ducks?? No idea, but birds seem to follow me around whenever I start recording. lol
Great stuff
Bryson’s rear hand grip is in the life line as well? And then He uses an overlap style grip? Thx, KIrk.
I do not think so as his thumb of his left hand is in there.
@@Setup4Impact gotcha ! Thx. Do you know if Bryson uses an overlap or 10 finger?
Kirk on that Step 4 when you explain that the hip goes earlier opposite way.... Isn't it called reverse pilvot on conventional swing?

Can you use just normal size grips or is it better /easier with fatter grips
You can use any grip or clubs. It will work better though with grips and clubs that fit. I have fitting info and a discount code for grips on my page at setup4impact.com/faq/
Hi Kirk. Regarding grip size, my hand size from wrist crease to longest finger is 8 1/2 inches. Your recommendation is appreciated.
I would try the Large size from JumboMax Ultralite grips. I do not recommend any of their other grips.
Awesome video! Do you have any good drills for that transition move and feeling the left leg leading and the hips opening?
My entire teaching system focuses on this move so that impact can become automatic. See my website setup4impact.com
Kirt
What size Jumbo grip do I need with my finger size 7.5”?
Will have have to add a extra tape wraps to the lower/trailing hand?
Size Small in the JumboMax Ultralite grips. You do not need to add extra tape. It is better to have taper to the grip, than non-taper.

Thank you
Do you recommend try and just one club first with a jumbo grip before I change the entire set over?
I have found using a minimum of an oversized/ jumbo grip is really the way to go with the single plane swing.
Hi Kurt
Is the weight forward on the set up
what ar you thoughts on todd graves teaching of moes swing ... ive tried it with soem success but i do struggle with standing so far from the ball on shots from the turf
Could i do this with standard lie golf clubs or would i need them crazy upright? Love the videos.
If the clubs fit you now then they will fit you with this as long as you keep the same distance from the ball at setup.
@@Setup4Impact Thanks very much
This is classic Percy Boomer, 'On Learning Golf', 1942.

Does Bryson stand the same distance from the ball with 5 iron compared to 9 iron ? Just stands up taller making same swing ? Since all irons are same length shouldn’t ball be in same position ??
He stands the same as each club is the same length.
Great video!
Thanks!
What about the right elbow? Bryson seems to have the Elbow Not very close to the Body during backswing. Greetings!
Sounds good!!!
@@jonathansmith9705 the club head will feel heavier with the lighter weight of the Jumbomax Ultralite grips.
I have moved to your style of teaching SPS and thoroughly enjoying the simplicity of it. My biggest issue is an occasional shank appears and I can't for the life of me work out what is causing it. Any thoughts - my guess is the swing is too 'armsy' ??
Ditto for me. Seems to come out of the blue - no idea why...
swing path too much from inside through impact has the hosel moving toward the ball.
Congratulations
I notice you look like you push down with your left heel ,is this a good way to start my down swing .I feel like i struggle to get something in my mind to start down .I think i start with my upper half when im hitting bad shots .Maybe i can say heel when i get to the top ???
I don't think about that. The left heel comes up slightly on the backswing and then with the transition it moves back down. Using my drills I work on getting my body to the impact position before the club gets there.
This is what Jack did!
Are you going to have the school in Stockton, California?
I sure hope so. I am not sure how long it will be before Cali allows such a thing though. Especially with out of state people involved.
Thanks for this.
My pleasure!
Tony Griffin
Setup 4 Impact Master Instructor
At the range I am normally at now there is normally a spot with nice short grass which I much prefer. I would hit off a putting green if I had my choice. I find that the easiest to hit out of. For this video I chose a spot that the grass was a bit longer than I had hoped and instead of moving everything just shot the video there. If I could do it again I would have picked a better spot. I will do a video soon from off dirt. If you come is with a nice flat spot through impact as I do then the bare lies are no problem. For a lie down in the rough I have to move it back in my stance so as to come in more steeply.
That makes more sence thanks
Happy to help
What do the bigger grips do for you?
If you setup on your impact plane there is no need to manipulate the clubface through impact. So a thicker grip helps one hold the club with a more relaxed grip.
Great golf instruction.what jumbomax grip size to you recommend for my hand size of 8 inches please.
I recommend Small, or Medium. I would try them both. I measure the same and chose Small, but like Medium also. Make sure to go with the UltraLite grips.
7 inches from crease to middle finger
If the lead wrist is pressed forward at impact, but not at address, doesn't that make the club shorter, requiring either the body drops somewhat, or thin shots?
The leading wrist is forward of the clubhead at setup as it is at impact. If it is more forward at impact you will either need to stand a bit closer in your setup or drop closer with your body.
Do you promote a shorter backswing?
No I would not promote that as people need more distance, not less.
Thanks for getting it!!!
Extended arms like Bryson and let the body follow, is a speed swing. Very powerful.

Just watch out he’s now working with Kyle Berkshire for more length ???
Sounds good!!!
What lie angle are your clubs Kirk

Bryson’s swing is quite similar to Moe Norman’s swing concept.
Listened again -- Figured Med, but apparently a Small JumboMax light grip.
Yes, I use small.
Bryson’s swing is close to the late Moe Norman’s swing concept.
Not Very close at all, really. Bryson is much closer to the ball, doesn't restrict his trail foot to the ground through impact, doesn't dip his head through impact, doesn't keep his lead knee bent through impact to name a few differences.

Agreed!! Even Bryson says that when he tried to swing like Moe it hurt is back so he stopped. He likes to stand more upright as it is more natural.

Looks like your are cutting grass like Shawn Clements.
He had lots of control at the US Open
This is a hybrid version of single plain. Bryson is slowly going to 2 plane. Way to many moving parts
Bryson sets up on his impact plane as he has done for the past 7+ years. Just compare setup and impact and you can see it.
