Surprisingly, the OG Chu was great using it onstage or on the film studio. It eqd very well and with Dekoni foam tips we get all the bass we need. One reason was actually the cable. Having it attached was a plus when using them with musicians who were newbies to iems. Those musicians tend to fiddle with the iem as its a new thing to them. This eliminated them from disconnecting them by accident while performing. Imagine the same scenario if they were wearing a $100+ iem, they accidentally unplug one and drop it on a dark stage. The fall damages it or someone steps on it and you've lost what it costs. So that attached cable is great for newbies. But it sucks, so we modified them all , a very different mod than others. The cable is slinky, and kinda moves on its own. It won't stay over.your ear on its own. So here's what we've done. First I cut the y connector out of it. That gave me access to all 3 cables. I then made earhooks using Flexo PET sleeving and forming them with a heatgun. I made a special jig to hold them in place until they cooled. I then used Flexo Noise Reducing sleeving over the cable from the y position all the way up across the earhooks to the cable/iem connection on both iems, and attached it with Flexo 3-1 heat shrink, blue on one side red on the other. This made the cable very soft across the ears. I then put 1/8" Flexo Noise Reducing sleeve on the cable from the y down to the plug, attached once again by 3-1 shrink tubing. (Flexo Noise is a very soft sleeve expandable to easily go over connectors and when pulled tight it fits the cable perfectly. It also kills any microphonics in the cable; and completely tamed the slinky cable, it hangs straight and doesn't tangle.I used black.) Now to the y connection!! First I put a chin slidder on the upper two wires. I then replaced the y connection with both iem cables going to a miniature 3.5 male connector, and finished it off with black Flexo 3-1 heat shrink. I put a 3.5 female connector on the bottom cable and secured it with the heat shrink. This complete cable mod costs less than $8. So now we have a very soft, quite cable, and we can put the short cable on to go to a receiver pack, or with most people to their phones, or I can connect other lengths of cable instead of the short one to reach mixers etc for drummers and other musicians that run straight instead of wireless. This may all be moot to most because the Chu 2 is out now, but the OG is actually a really good iem if you use foam tips and it eqs well for almost anything. And the attached cable is an asset to us. This cable mod changes everything about the comfort of the OG. We have 12 OGs and 12 Chu2s .So for us the $8 mod on the OG is cheaper than what we usually do which is replacing the stock cables with upgrade cables; another $20. We're using the Zonie cable on the Chu2s. But one last thing, that new black cable looks awesome with the OG units!! Great video! Sorry for the long post, but a lot of the OGs are out there, and I thought this might be good for some of them. All the best, Sonny T
@@KelvinKamsg thanks but honestly the Tech Flex products make it so easy. The expandable sleeping goes over big connectors and pulls right down to fit the cable size. If you had the OG Chu, you know the cable had a mind of its own!! That sleeving made it straight and tamed and very soft. I love the idea of a 3.5 connector replacing the y splitter, you can use different length cables !! We did a balanced version with 2.5 connectors and a rattlesnake sleeving, and it looked too cool!! It also sounds better when you have more power to work with and you can get it loud enough from 5- down. I should do a video on the cable mod, it’s cheap and looks awesome. The shrink tube is not like you’d get a your local hardware, it’s shrink ratio is 3-1, or 4-1 as apposed to regular which is 2-1. This allows the shrink tube to slide over large connectors and still shrink down. I have a piece that is 3/4” and 3-1 shrink ratio. The cable is indeed amazing, the pattern is different from the SSR/SSP cable but the feel is definitely the same. I've been using Moondrop Chu II for a week and here's my review: This is my first IEM. I have had many Over Ear Headphones, Earphones and TWS. To be honest, I think as a budget IEM it's good sounding. Not bad, not great, not average, just good compared to any earphones at this price point. Using these with my new dongle dac and I really like them. I suspect this dongle is kinda neutral as the sound doesn't change. Used high gain and was surprised by how...like more full the midrange comes across. Yes volume increased but the midrange was brought forward a tad too which was nice. It opened them up a tad. So it's refreshing and fun. I enjoy them with rock and pop punk especially. J-rock too
Apart from the nice design and hardware, based on initial reviews I don't feel like this would be worth adding to my pile of budget ChiFi IEMs like the 7hz. It's kind of a shame cause I've never owned a Moondrop and I was curious.
@@sharadbhadouria1227 I am a complete beginner so I won't be able to give you a very detailed review. I actually prefer plastic or resin shells because moondrop shells always flake, even the Aria Snow that looks to be "bare" became a cratered moon's surface after using from launch till now edit: "cratered"
@@SuperReview I haven’t experienced any paint chipping or bubbling on my Aria or Chu either. There’s a few potential factors that may be at play: - variations in local humidity - variations in skin oil acidity - cleaning with harsh solvents - level of care when handling IEMs (some people put them in their pockets where the shells bang against each other constantly) I am lucky that I live in a dry climate and have relatively inert skin oil, so that may be why I’ve never had an issue. I also baby my IEMs.

You could find a shop on AliExpress called Xinhs, they are usually responsive to custom orders. Typically all IEM cables are ~4-foot-long so if you want something longer, custom is the way to go.
With the salnotes zero cable, unless the type c cable is significantly different from the 3.5 cable it’s not going to work with iems with recessed connectors like the hexa but should work with iems with flush connectors like the s12.
Probably? I'm not familiar with the Salnotes Zero USB-C version, but it looks like it's removable. If it has standard 2-pin connectors, should work with other IEMs, though note that the Chu 2's connectors are slightly recessed, so the Salnotes cable would have to protrude outward a bit.
@@SuperReview Understood, I've been looking for more type c cables that come IEMs that we can casually use with our smartphone on daily basis, doesn't have to be great but as long as it doesn't have issues its completely fine. I'm going to try and pick up type c version of Salnotes Zero this week

I'd love to return to Moondrop. But the lack of a machined nozzle just means the S8 wasn't comfy for me. I'll never buy another IEM without a shaped nozzle for the ear canal, as much as I loved the S8 sound. I imagine even of they could build the S8 MKII, or a S10 - it'll be an identical fit. Hope your routine isn't too stressful at present Mark - good luck with getting other space sorted.
Haven't compared directly, but I think the C2 is a bit more energetic in the treble which contributes to sound a bit more "technical," stronger imaging and incisiveness.
I think they messed up the legacy of both Chu and SSR, Chu 2 should have Lan's tuning and then Lan something similar to SSR 😩but because they released Lan first as an Chu upgrade now they had to differentiate it :/
I’m starting to think they’re trying to transition to the new swappable filters for their “lower tier” IEMs starting with the Chus. Moondrop has been getting a crap ton of complaints about channel imbalance (from users in humid areas) due to using metal as a chassis, I guess the best they could do to solve that issue is just give serviceable filters instead of investing more money on RnD on where to put the ventilation holes.
Original Chu is indeed more tilted toward clarity, away from bass. If you want to try something in between (but closer to original Chu), LAN is a good balance.

The original Chu definitely felt more unique than the Chu II, but the Chu II feels all around more versatile both in sound and serviceability. One downside is that I had to replace the filters on the Chu II in the first 5 days where as the original took me too weeks before they started to degrade. Another thing I didnt care for are the tips included with the Chu II, I find myself just using the Chu Spring Tips as they are just so much more comfortable and easier to take in and out. Overall, I think I prefer the Chu II for everyday listening, but the original Chu is still fun to revisit from time to time.
@@Prakyy the volume level on the original CHU became completely muffled in one ear. The CHU II on the other hand didn’t fail as catastrophically. It started to lose detail and sparkle in the top end which made it sound more boring. After swapping the filters both issues were fixed.
@@willissudweeks1050 the filters are attached to the metal mesh to block ear wax from getting into the IEMs. Apparently they also have a huge impact on the sound profile which I didn’t know till I got these. If they get moist the sound quality will degrade. Luckily moondrop sells replacements for most of their IEMs so it’s an easy fix.
@@Prakyy The mesh becomes full of wax (even if you clean your ears everyday). This will muffle and mute partially the sound and it frequencies. You can clean the mesh easily in Chu2, but Chu1's mesh will lose the sticking properties after the wash. Some IEMs have foam as filter, some have mesh + foam.
19 bucks for the moondrop chu2 (just for the cable), well yinioo16core costs around 15bucks, sounds better (fuller, less shouty, better separated and cleaner) and is even better in therms of build. I actually was comparing those two many times recently.
Those are not the same eartips that come with the chu 1 or am I going crazy? Why is no one talking about it. Chu 1 comes with spring tips which are nicer
Apart from the nicer cable, can't see any obvious build differences on this. I didn't have durability issues but I don't use these the same way everyone does.
I will buy this but prefer not to have the moronic over the ear cable. I want my cable to hang straight down. Why do these IEM have to hang over the eat? And totally dislike base. I want more treble sound. Why make base or treble dominant? I want it to sound normal, as recorded.
@@SuperReview I don't like it because it's annoying and my first ever set of IEMs kept popping out of my right ear due to the stiff wire around the ear. Why is it even necessary to put cable over the ear?
I like it over the ear for two reasons: (1) When it's done right, it improves the fit stability. It popping out of your ear because it was stiff sounds like a bad hook, though sometimes you can improve them by reshaping them with a hair dryer. And (2) it significantly reduces "cable noise" that can happen when a cable rubs against your shirt.

So it's refreshing and fun. I enjoy them with rock and pop punk especially. J-rock too
Here goes the chu two train! xD
I have tin c2 wıth your advices:) c2 vs chu2? Whats different?
Wish they kept the spring tips
Same, but I'll take this cable! Henceforth I will call it the Spring cable.
How would you compare this to the Tin Hifi C2?
Apart from the nice design and hardware, based on initial reviews I don't feel like this would be worth adding to my pile of budget ChiFi IEMs like the 7hz. It's kind of a shame cause I've never owned a Moondrop and I was curious.
I have them and they are better than the salnote 7hz zero forsure
@@arasumi3408better how
Does Chu 2 have good soundstage dan imaging?
Average, most things are.
I bought them 3 weeks ago, I'm still waiting for them to arrive! can't wait to give them a try 😁
How about it?
much BETTER than the long ones TBH
I prefer the more detailed reviews with comparisons. But for the current situation mark is in I also enjoy this reviews👍🏼
Just ordered the Chu 2 today!

@@sharadbhadouria1227 I am a complete beginner so I won't be able to give you a very detailed review. But the chu 2s seem like I am listening to higher quality audio , it seems to be much clearer than my tws. My tws seemed very noisy , like they are kinda muffled (I had the oppo enco buds 2). It's like watching a video in 180p to 1440p. Though it did take some time for my ears to adjust and actually hear the difference, I didn't notice it out of the box, took me about a week of listening to it

Should i get these or the kz castor bass version for my first iem?
I actually prefer plastic or resin shells because moondrop shells always flake, even the Aria Snow that looks to be "bare" became a cratered moon's surface after using from launch till now edit: "cratered"
Pretty curious about this, TBH none of my IEMs (Moondrop or otherwise) have shown this problem, but I've heard about it a lot.
I've seen someone sanded paint off of aria and ngl it looks much better that way
my aria had paint bubbles by around 3 months. All other listings on fb marketplace on used arias have paint bubbles/flakes
@@SuperReview I haven’t experienced any paint chipping or bubbling on my Aria or Chu either. There’s a few potential factors that may be at play:
- variations in local humidity
- variations in skin oil acidity
- cleaning with harsh solvents
- level of care when handling IEMs (some people put them in their pockets where the shells bang against each other constantly)
I am lucky that I live in a dry climate and have relatively inert skin oil, so that may be why I’ve never had an issue. I also baby my IEMs.
@@scorpioassmodeusgtx1811Level of care definitely matters, I've been daily driving my SSP for almost 2 years and only had a chip from dropping it once. I also clean them weekly with some IPA.
Great stuff as always 🙂 Will probably wind up getting a pair of these for my wife to replace her second replacement Chu when it breaks
What does she like about the Chu?
@@SuperReview She does not believe in spending money in general, so the price is her favorite thing, but the shape/size and tuning are both things she likes. She says she can hear more of her music than the off the shelf earbuds she used before.
I like this but I need mic for calls/gaming and I have small ears. Can you recommend a budget iem with mic and have a small form factor?
They make a version with mic: shenzhenaudio.com/products/moondrop-chu-2-dsp-type-c-in-ear-headphone
Any recommendations for a longer cable to use with the chu II?
You could find a shop on AliExpress called Xinhs, they are usually responsive to custom orders. Typically all IEM cables are ~4-foot-long so if you want something longer, custom is the way to go.
Hey asking how long is the cable?
Hey I wanted to ask if its possible to use the cables like on Salnotes zero (type c) directly on some other Iems like Hexa or Chu 2 ? 😂
@@rexincognito6090 7hz type C cable does works on other iems I was using in KZ EDX Ultra simgot EW200 and ZVX
But Volume is less compared to 3.5mm headphone jack
With 3.5mm jack on my phone all iems are pretty loud at 50% volume
With type C cable or dongle or DAC you have to go around 60-70% volume

Falcon Ultra review coming soon.
@@SuperReview ok man, cant wait =))
How does it compare with the Tinhifi C3? I notice they graph quite similarly
Not sure, I haven't spent much time with C3, I like C2 better. (And I think C2 technicalities are more impressive than Chu across the board.)
Hey, can you suggest between 7hz timeless and moondrop kato? Which one I should go for? Need your suggestion.
Please don't spam the same question.
I did comparisons here: ruclips.net/video/Eg9I4bpIspg/видео.html
@@SuperReview - I am sorry for that. Thank you for your help. I will surely check it.
Thanks Wainster. When you say machined nozzle, what's an example of a nozzle you prefer to the S8 nozzle?
what is ryan gosling doing moon drop review ?
i can attach any aftermarket mic cable later on right?
If it's 2-pin, yeah.
Please suggest me a good earphone between Moondrop chu 2 and tangzu wan er for overall a good music experience..
Note: I'm a beginner..
You'll be happy with either.
So the only difference between this and Hola that gives its 4 instead of 3 stars is metal build and shape.
Sound wise they're at a similar level, Chu a bit brighter, Hola warmer (from memory), it's mostly the build at $19 I'm enthusiastic about.
@@SuperReview gotcha hahah ☺️
Do they have a problem with blocking filter? Made my first chu basically unusable.
Well the nozzles screw off for easy filter replacement, so take a guess.
So far replacements are not yet available for purchase, though.
is it low res?
Please, compare between Chu 2 and Truthear hola for overall. Which one do you like most?
Sound, probably Hola, build, Chu 2.
@@SuperReview Thank you so much.
Chu2's cable vs Hola's cable, who won? There needs to be a budget cables tier list.
Chu 2 for sure
Depends on the color of the IEM. Both great.
Something I figured out if you take out the filter on the chu 2 changes the entire sound signature
Yeah, filters do that.
Could you tell me how this chu2 compares to the tin C2?
Haven't compared directly, but I think the C2 is a bit more energetic in the treble which contributes to sound a bit more "technical," stronger imaging and incisiveness.
@@SuperReview Thank you this helps
I think they messed up the legacy of both Chu and SSR, Chu 2 should have Lan's tuning and then Lan something similar to SSR 😩but because they released Lan first as an Chu upgrade now they had to differentiate it :/
Yes, this! Now I need Lan 2, same tuning as the OG but with this replaceable nozzle system.
@@HiaruXD exactly, they rushed again, is weird Chu 2 costing half the price of Lan has the new filter system
How are these compared to Sony Wf1000xm3? Anyon etested both?

I love and enjoy how Chu1 sounds. Chu2 it's better built, but the sound it's not so good. Not bad, but no so clear as Chu1.
Original Chu is indeed more tilted toward clarity, away from bass. If you want to try something in between (but closer to original Chu), LAN is a good balance.
@@SuperReview Thanks you. I don't like to use IEM too much time at once. Aren't comfortable for me, it's all about of my personal comfort and preferencies.
With what I really very comfortable, are Apple Earbuds with donut foam on (Also Airpods 2 are great), those sound good enought with the foams. But I really enjoy Chu1 sounds, probably best sounding IEM I tryed, and I tryed much more expensive IEMs. The flat head open earbuds aren't so good, once I wanted to buy Fiio FF5, but flat head aren't good for sound quality.
The problem is, no one is manufacturing Apple Earbuds form-like premium earbuds, and probably, at least I couldn't to find ones.
Is it better than blon bl03
Hi 🙂, like your reviews (mainly because of your personality), but you clearly percieve everything that is bright as Hi-res. 7hz 0 is bright but mushy and it lacks clean edges. Moondrop chu2 has better driver and metal shell which makes the sound impactful with no softness (faster trancience, good detail, clean edges, ...) chu2 is much more Hi-res than 7hz 0 😊 as I hear it...
The only advantage of the 7hz0 is more opened/airy sound...
TBH I described Chu 2 as brighter than expected, and still low-res.
@@SuperReview talking about brightness/treble is a very broad term. I assumed that in the case of the 7hz u are talking about air and in the case of the chu2 about lower parts of the treble which would make sense.
@@matusjurcik69747hz zero is not low res it's sounds most natural while still with bright tone everything is natural and it's definitely high res I like 7hz zero even better than T3+ or Simgot EW200

Do you trim your ear hairs?
Hell yeah!
Hurray! Fit demonstration back!😆
I need better aim at the camera.
Filters?
why'd you feel like you needed to replace the filters? This is something I've never even thought of doing...

Going to buy the Tinhifi C2 instead of these. The upper mids were a bit much on the chu 2.
Those are not the same eartips that come with the chu 1 or am I going crazy? Why is no one talking about it. Chu 1 comes with spring tips which are nicer
Chu 2 does not come with Spring tips 😭
Chu 2 or truthear hola?
Similar sound quality, Hola's a bit warmer. I like the metal build of Chu.
Will these have the durability issue the old one had?
Apart from the nicer cable, can't see any obvious build differences on this. I didn't have durability issues but I don't use these the same way everyone does.

I will buy this but prefer not to have the moronic over the ear cable. I want my cable to hang straight down. Why do these IEM have to hang over the eat? And totally dislike base. I want more treble sound. Why make base or treble dominant? I want it to sound normal, as recorded.
Why don't you want the over-ear cable?
@@SuperReview I don't like it because it's annoying and my first ever set of IEMs kept popping out of my right ear due to the stiff wire around the ear. Why is it even necessary to put cable over the ear?
I like it over the ear for two reasons: (1) When it's done right, it improves the fit stability. It popping out of your ear because it was stiff sounds like a bad hook, though sometimes you can improve them by reshaping them with a hair dryer. And (2) it significantly reduces "cable noise" that can happen when a cable rubs against your shirt.
