When I saw the notifications for the series, I literally shouted "YAS QUEEN." I'm so excited to dive in and use your tips to develop my work! Thanks Linda!
I'm currently applying to USC SCA for their BFA in Writing for Screen and Television. I highly doubt I'll get in, but it's worth a shot. I will update this when the decision is released next year.
Thank you so much for this video series! Excited to watch the rest, have been applying and wishing for something like this for a long time. If you see this, It would really help to know what kinds of things were on your creative portfolio list, and what things you can actually list. As someone who got into academia after high school, where things are very much not hands-on, I have 0 experience with actually creating material that I could put on that list.
I can see you're very proud of getting into the USC program today. And you should be! Fantastic perseverence getting here! I love to see another person talk about passion in telling stories. Have you been watching Star Trek Discovery? I think it's kind of amazing, it consistently suprises me each episode.
Hi Linda, it caught my interest since you major in USC screenwriting, which I have interest in too, I have some question about it because I experiencing mixed bag of other videos and comment of drop outs and die hard attenders and also I'm not living in US. I should say I'm really confused, I don't know if USC is for me or not & it would be great to hear your side of opinion. I just want to crafting my stories and make my movies and I don't want to waste time taking unnecessary courses and end up getting a degree just for a decoration:D ( I should mention I made some short movies which had tremendous feedback and act in 2 plays) telling a story is my main passion through life. I'm a professional art director and graphic designer. I found out what make me interested in graphic design in the first place is my passion to telling story at it's core, for an example designing a logo is always something special to me cause it's like a haiku, have lots of story and meaning behind but try to hide this in it's core and manifesting something rather minimal than sophisticated. I have about 10 original novel project I'm working on, some of them I use to write in highschool but dropped it ( it was an epic fantasy with very different perspective). I took several udemy courses, David Mamet and Aaren Sorkin online Masterclasses, and enjoy them very much. I don't know if university can add anything to what I already know. initially I was interested in self publishing my novels on amazon & hopefully make them to the screens by there as long as they have the potential to be made into block busters. take them as mix of Christopher Nolan kind of stories with taste of Denis Johanson poetics writing style. but as long as I have Crazy imaginative mind and a kind of tunnel vision about the picture and feeling I want to create, I see making a movie as a highest level of telling story which will gave me a kind of euphoria. after all this researching about the applicants side of view, it makes me wonder if it kills or evolve my passion about making and telling fictions. I would be very glade if you could answer me I promise you I will mention your name when I resiving my first Academy award later on! ;)
