19:03 I've NEVER forgotten that track in over thirty years; and I still love it to this day. Me and my brother played this game religiously but never beat it until we got the Game Genie. The hit detection was utter crap and the enemies' I-frames are beyond corrupt, but we enjoyed the game! Thanx 4 posting!
Wow!! The memories...i played the living daylights out of this on my snes back in the 90's. The nostalgia is strong with this one...wonderful memories with this game growing up. This was actually one of the better final fight clones in my opnion...nice playthrough bro!
This Super Nintendo game, Rival Turf! from Jaleco U.S.A. was way ahead of its time. And the best way in playing this game would be via the original Super NES console, and using the standard Super NES controller, Asciiware's Super Advantage, Capcom's Fighter Power Stick, Specialized Fighter Pad, IMN Control's The Game Handler, Fighter Stick SN, Tyco Toys's Power Plug, Sports Science's BatterUP baseball controller and so much more.
The sequel to this game was actually really good and introduced some more interesting mechanics to play with. Brawl Brothers I think it is called. We stan Wendy the wrestling queen at my place lol
53:27 “You know, Jack…. I just can’t shake the feeling that we’re forgetting about something really important… Like something integral to why we went on this crazy crusade in the first place…”
I remember renting this game. It's good but, what really stands out is the badass 80 vibe soundtrack in rival turf/rushing beat in japan. I hope you do play the japan version of this game one day. Because the U.S version is very butchered. While the japan version has way more story.
Man, Iceman and Big Al are some of the cheapest bosses I've ever fought. They have like exactly ONE single frame where they can be hit at all, and that's the very instant after they use their special moves. Any other time they're 100% intangible even if they're just walking
I don’t understand how streets of rage 2 got all the love but not this game. This set the standard in best em ups with a club worthy soundtrack and some of the best gameplay in any generation.
Weird how enemies can hit back during your combo. It's not a bad game. I probably revisit this game if I'm not looking to smash buttons like crazy like other beat em ups.
I had friends who gave me shit cuz I had this game, i would shut them up by saying they can only play Final Fight as a 1P only :P . . . . then they would give me more shit about Rival Turf!'s goofy cover XD but I agreed with them.
This game is the epitome of "we have X at home". It is good enough to scratch the Final Fight itch, but nobody in their right mind wold pick this up during a weekend rental, if the Capcom's game was available.
Yeah, but if you already had Final Fight like I did, this was a fun way to change things up for a weekend. I wouldn't have bought it at the mall for $59.99, but as a $3 Friday-Sunday rental? Hell yeah!
Eh, could have been! If you wanted a two-player brawler, Final Fight's SNES port - which I greatly enjoy, and find both underrated and unfairly maligned given the circumstances of when it was made - was going to leave you with a bit of an itch, and I don't immediately recall any other multiplayer brawlers on the SNES at the time of Rival Turf's release.
@@9b8llWhat's butchered? I haven't played it. Are there a lot of differences? Or is it like Tuff'E'Nuff where they axed most of the text instead of translating it?
@@NintendoComplete It's the latter. I don't remember where I mentioned this, if on this channel, but Jaleco's Japan branch was not particularly forthcoming with the localization assistance back in those days - you'll likely notice over time that the USA branch gets increasingly fast and loose with it in this series (and The Ignition Factor if you've played that); they likely decided to just see what they could make work as a "close enough". On the topic of this particular game, the intro is cut entirely and the ending is far, far shorter in the US version, with one character completely missing from it. If you look up the JP ending, you'll see her, but, er... put it this way. The US manual mentions Jack having a girlfriend named Heather, I think it was. I am assuming that they included a mention of her in the manual because there's a woman in the opening and ending that, if you're just looking at the pictures, Jack (or Rick over there) is obviously concerned about, and given that Jaleco USA had probably played Final Fight, they figured the plot was similar and put it in the manual for printing. I am thinking that somewhere between that printing and the completion of the localization, someone noticed a phrase spoken by the woman in the ending that Romanizes to "onii-chan", looked it up, and quickly proceeded to just leave that little plot thread hanging from the game itself. ...I will happily spell it out if need be.
@NintendoComplete pretty much. The story from Rival turf is saving and finding your girlfriend from while kicking all the baddies asses. While in rushing beat Japan version, it has a more in-depth story, an intro cut scene, and instead of your girlfriend, you find your sister. It changes the whole dialogue. Basically what Yuka said
In addition, the manual states that "Oozie" is just his nickname, his name's actually Oswald. I think they were going for a bit of a double-reference since you pronounce "Oozie" exactly like "Uzi", the weapon of choice in movies at the time, but a word that doesn't really expand out to any human name you've likely ever heard.
Rival Turf - this is the craziest lawn you've ever seen!

Thanks! I liked it a lot, too.
You really do deserve more subs.
Youre doing the lords work!
Thanks! :)
I bought this today it'll be my first time playing 😎👊🏻
Bought this game today. Me and the wife played it this evening. 👍👍
0:01 I love that jingle! 😊

i remember always renting this from blockbuster and hollywood video

I played this game of my life, it was my childhood.

Nelson's design looks like it was inspired by the idea "M. Bison, but he's a member of the Village People".
19:05-Excuse me for a second. *bird noises intensify*
Holy Powerbomb madness I love it
This game is like Final Fight on steroids.

This looks like the clientele at The White Cockatoo… Thankfully, Nelson is here to do his job, today!

Just like in double dragon is frustating for me
This game is a guilty pleasure for me. Lol.
Wow, you shura were rushing around to beat everyone. You really ran.
The one good thing was the CHRCONF cheat where if you put that as your name in the high scores, you could be able to rename everyone in the game.

Turtles 2
I preferred this game rather than Final Fight when I discovered it as a child. But it's still a little worse.
Will you play The Peace Keepers?
q buen recuerdo ❤
Nice!
I used to love playing this. I'm still waiting for fan translations of the other two games.
Will you play the fan translation of Rushing Beat too?
I didn't realize there was one. I'll look into it.
Yeah, it's way better than the US butchered version

Streets of Rage?
I wish the game got remade though.
Where did they save the girlfriend
I think they forgot to.
53:13 I guess they beat the black off of Nelson 🤷🏾♂️
shiit
His name is Oozie Nelson, as in Ozzie Nelson of mid-20th century sitcom Ozzie and Harriet. Jesus Christ.
But now with more ooze. Yum.
