Moonage Daydream heralds the arrival of Ziggy; as a song, it always hooks new fans for Bowie

One of Bowie’s best! Try Rock and Roll Suicide, She shook me cold, Station to Station, to get started, any 70s Bowie is solid gold!

How about Blackout or Win? Or maybe Sweet Thing/Candidate/Sweet Thing? It still pisses me off that that isn't all one track on the cd. Maybe it is in the recent remaster but I'm not made of money.

The live version from Ziggy Stardust the Motion Picture has the greatest live guitar solo of the 70s by Mick Ronson. A worthwhile watch for sure.

Bowie is one of the great artists of humanity.

One of the best songs ever. I think he played the sax on this and other early albums. Some of his lyrics were clipped from magazines. He came to town in early '74 with his city street stage. Good times

One of the best songs on the album. Good guitar solo from the late Mick Ronson. Some of the best work from David Bowie.

"The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars" for me was the gold standard for a rock and roll album, and for several decades it was what I judged every other album by. Every song is a banger, and it all more or less ties together. It was finally knocked from the top spot on my personal list around 2010 when a co-worker introduced me to a Houston based band called Blue October, and their album "Foiled." I highly recommend you check them out if you get a chance. Keep up the good work, Biz.

One of Bowie's best songs is from these sessions but it was not included on the record.
It's called Velvet Goldmine and it will melt your brain.
Regarding this song, it's a damn masterpiece.

When I was 19, in 1990, I already knew I loved the song Ziggy Stardust, but making sense of the entire album was a more acquired taste. I listened to it in it's entirety over and over, until it became a part of me, and since the early 90s, it's so difficult for me to imagine a life without Bowie and without this album. "Soul Love" might be my favorite song, but, for some reason, a line from from "Five Years" sticks with me the strongest: "Drinking milkshakes cold and long"- such a unique descriptive style!

K West was a clothing store in London. Bowie is pictured in the alley behind the shop because a lot of the hip kids of the day would dumpster dive behind the clothing stores looking for cheap finds.

This is such a cool song. Bowie was a genius. BTW - a movie came out in 1998 called VELVET GOLDMINE about a glam rock star based loosely on David's Ziggy days and his relationship with Iggy Pop played by Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Ewan MacGregor. It not great cinematic masterpiece, but it is alot of fun and the music is great. I'm sure it's streaming somewhere....

No. No. He was born the year this album was released, wasn't he? So no.. And Bowie has K.West above his head! Surely that says it all. Just goes to show how ahead of his time Bowie really was. He went out of his way to prepare us all for... Jesus Walks, I guess ? What you also have to think about and consider with your brain, though, is that Kanye constantly refers to himself as a genius just like how Bowie just got on with being an artist.
Another parallel between them is that Bowie constantly reinvented himself just like Kanye dudn't.

    • @watchbizmatik
