Sara, an IT professional & Stephen a graphic designer and artist are world-traveling Canadians who dreamt of moving to Europe, and France in particular. In 2020 they were working from home when Stephen turned to Sara and popped the question she was longing to hear, “What would have to be true for us to buy a chateau in France?” They searched online for months viewing hundreds of properties. They narrowed their search and toured some properties when they happened upon the one that captured our hearts, Château de Saint-Germain-des-Prés. A year later they made the move to France to start their new adventure in our beautiful Château. They created “Manor and Maker” to reflect the two sides of their adventure. One, to live as chateau owners with all the ups and downs and two, to pursue their passions as makers, creating art in all its forms. They will invite others to come together, united by their passions, to share in this adventure. We invite you to join us too, as we bring our dreams to life. Welcome to Manor & Maker.
You know, there’s no pressure for you to produce vlogs of any specific length or topic or on a set schedule What you’re doing now is perfect. Change things as you see fit!
Thanks for the support John!
Work/Life/Play balance is hard to achieve! You both are doing just fine. I am loving your efforts to mix and mingle various art practitioners. This makes your channel very unique. Do not stress. Keep being deliberate with your vision and do not forget to rest when you need to.
Can't wait to see the daffodils in bloom! Be sure to show us.😊
Wonderful to hear of all of your creative activities and workshops coming up! Thanks for the glimpse of Bordeaux too. I recall some time ago that Stephen had demonstrated how he created the file from Stephanie's fathers painting, transforming it into a surround wallpaper mural for their downstairs loo. It was fascinating to watch, so I actually wouldn't mind seeing selected demos of the 'work-work' you both do too (such as how you create your beautiful animated butterflies in your intertitles, etc.). Likely, people who are unfamiliar with media production and design would as well, as you explained that particular project in a way that was accessible to everyone, kudos.
Well that could be arranged! Thanks for the feedback!
Totally agree!! Would love to see that!
I can't wait to see the daffodils in full bloom I hope you will video them for all of us. Here in our part of the US our daffodils are blooming as well as some of our flowering trees it really is a beautiful time of the year for all of us. Hugs, Kathy USA
Love your vlogs and especially your support of the arts. Fascinating. Thanks so much.
Love how you emphasize promoting the arts at the Chateau! From one Canadian to another, “tres bien”!! ❤️🇨🇦
Merci beaucoup!
Love you videos ..For dinner tonight I had something from my childhood that I love but husband never ate was French fries and Gravy..I think it originated in Canada …I was born in the US but my husband is British …So delicious indeed ..It’s incredible what the two of you do for the art world …❤❤❤❤❤
That is a Newfoundland specialty….fries and gravy!
Please do show us the daffodils when they're all out! We need it here in the frozen North with Spring still feeling a long way off! 🇨🇦🍁
O my HEART, daffodils!!🎨🌾🌾🌾🌾🌾🌾We're still under 10 inches of snow, and it's still coming down! I'll see my daffs end of April. Hugs from Vermont, USA⛷🏂🎨🏂⛷☕🛷🎨☃️⛄
I'm across from Norwich Vt , watching it continuously snow today. It seems like spring is so far away for us!!
No, you are wrong, it IS vloggable - It all sounds fun and interesting! Alas, I must stay here, in B.C.. Where we are renovating. Quelle fun.
Sarah, I had to mention that your sunglasses really suit you.
Lovely tour, lovely plans, lovely woods! Thanks!
Sarah and Steve, please put your business first. We can wait for vlogs whenever you have spare time. I love all the content you show us, from DIY to Art to seeing your travels etc. x🇨🇮
Do so fa mi fa so la so, do so fa mi fa so la so, do la so do la so fa mi re do re do. Vivaldi’s Spring. I’m a music teacher and I always taught my students this theme in solfeig so whenever they hear it it will be in their memory. It is a great way to train music appreciation.
Hi guys, I am really impressed how hard you are working on making the Chateau a profitable business. I love the direction you are taking, which is promoting all sorts of arts. I was so happy to see your event last year, where you brought the local artists and the community together. I am wishing you a very successful year.
The daffodil display is going to be spectacular!
Enjoy your day of rest, guys. From BC, Canada where spring is still in hiding.
Thanks for the update! As a fellow Canadian, I’m always delighted to hear and see what you’re up to! Good luck in all your endeavours! 🇨🇦👏👏💐🤗🤗🇨🇦
I feel the same! Watching from Calgary and dreaming of one day seeing your beautiful home!
Oh I’m so glad that I misinterpreted the title of this vlog. I thought you were going to ask your audience as to whether we liked your vlogs and whether you should continue with them.
For me that is a big fat YES! Please don’t stop vlogging. I love the varied content and love your calendar of future events. I want to see more of what happens at your weekends with the different events. I love the en plain aire painting weekend and costume event. Elka’s en caustic work is always fantastic.
To attract more people to our workshops etc, could I suggest that you make it clear that participation in these workshops mean than you are agreeable to both being videoed and that your work will be shown. To see the way the work shop works and unfolds will attract more attendees. To adapt the filming to exclude those that are not willing to be shown on the vlogs makes for difficulties for your videoing and a distortion of how the workshops actually work. It’s their choice to attend and gain the knowledge the seek verses being captured on film. They don’t needed to talk but to get a real vision of the workshops and the results they need to be on board with the fact that they will potentially be vlogged. Privacy is important but so is establishing, for you, a growing local business.
I love the things you have in store for us. I’m just so sorry that I’m so far away and can’t attend or contribute. Nothing would have excited me more that to have held one of my patchwork and quilting workshops in a chateau. I would have even developed and improved my skills in boutis (southern French hand quilting) to hold an intro course for those interested. It’s an amazing and utterly beautiful quilting technique that is ages old. Maybe that’s something to look into.
Best wishes as always from Neil in Australia 🇦🇺
Greetings from snowy Kingston, Ontario. Lovely to see you both. Enjoy your life at your own pace and allow us the occasional view. Belly rub to the dogs.
I do appreciate a good chat every now and then! Don't feel like you have to have the most exciting footage all the time. It's nice to feel like you're just having a cozy sit-down with friends as well as following along on your adventures. 😊
So happy for you two...making your dreams & imaginations come true! I'm excited to check out the 2023 offerings!
The ironwork on the buildings in France is always so beautiful. Thank you!
My fellow Canadians are back! Sometimes, it feels like a long wait to see what you two are up to.
Plans are being made for a good year.
Your newly found land is awesome you need pathways for people to walk around I would love to see it.
Ofcouse Elske is pasion about her art....her name is Elske which means Love in Norwegian. Great vlog.
I wish I lived over there & could attend some of your events.
Happy St David’s Day tomorrow March 1st Steve and Sara. 😊
And to you as well!
Happy Family Day, thanks for sharing your visit to.Bordeaux, for us armchair travellers it is appreciated. We understand the amount of time for vlogs, so, we are thankful.
How wonderful that you have so many fun events to look forward to. I bet they will be fun and a happy time for all your participants and yourself!
Loved your Bordeaux section. Has been 40 years and I do want to go with Stuart. 😊. It is great to see you planning your year and indeed, there is not only DIY but all the other things. Great that you shared that with us. Love from Colombe. 😘💕🥰
Thank you! Definitely schedule at trip to Bordeaux!

I always enjoy seeing what you are doing at the chateau. Vlog when you can.
I do like the ideas you have for your gatherings. Specially the costume design one. Looking forward to watching that
What a joy to see Bordeaux. I lived there for 4 years, beautiful city. X
Simple answer: to vlog! And yes, you have a lot to do and I understand, but please don't deprive us of your advancements and accplomishments, they are so inspiring!
Your vlog is one of my favorites. I like the variety, artsy things you both share. You make it fun for the viewer. You’re a beautiful couple who’s love for each other comes through the screen so eloquently. ❤❤
Your plans sound very exciting! 💜
I think so too!
Vlog because you want to. When and if. No pressure. Love seeing all the things you get up to but you are there to love your life and that takes precedent over all else.
Hi guys! Thanks for the update. Your plans sound wonderful. Looks like you are well on your way to establishing your business. We will appreciate a vlog whenever you can provide one. Be well! 🇨🇦

@@ManorandMaker Always a pleasure ;-))
Omg daffodils!!! That put a smile on my face, thank you! So looking forward to being back there in May!
Exciting stuff coming up! Have fun. In Saskatchewan we are still in winter, so it's nice to see daffodils! I love your new found woods.
Thanks for the update. Wonderful to hear of all of your creative activities and workshops coming up! I wish I lived around the corner so I could attend some of these workshops. You are looking great ! Cheers from Montreal. 💗
That bronze 3-d map/ statue at the beginning of the blog was amazing. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
You both are so real..whatever you both decide we will understand. Of course we would miss you,but have to make time for yourselves. 🌷🌷Thanks for sharing the amazing buildings and towns and villages. Will continue to watch reruns and when a new one comes out.
Sara. I think it would be helpful to others who may want to try to start events in their corners of the world. If you could possibly share more of the details like where to start, who to reach out to etc. Just basically the how to and what nots lol. Perhaps by sharing more of the how to's, a artistic revival can be started.
Also Steve, I know you love to paint, and are extremely talented. But with so many people in costume and the beautiful scenery in your area, shouldn't you paint something other than just yourself??? Hahahaha, lol. Sorry, couldn't resist when you had stated that "you were looking forward to painting yourself". 🤣🤣😂😂😉
And everyone should definitely take time out for yourselves and friends. If not, we won't have any friends.
**One more thing. It would be awesome to see some of the paintings taking place in that historical town areas. So many areas would be amazing for paintings and photographers.
Just put out a vlog as and when, full of all the bits and pieces of your life. Never fill a vlog with padding for the sake of it. You are doing great!
Wonderful tour of Bordeaux! Your plans for this year sound amazing!
I loved this vlog. While DIY is great, so are the other many things you show us. I look forward to any of your creative ideas and even having you sit on a sofa and talking about them. You light up when you talk about such things. Someday, I hope we get to see Steve paint and the fruition come true of his studio. All the best!
Yeah Fergus Elora love the area!
@Jefferson Morant Brantford. And it's 2 C snow and ice last night.
Hello from St Joseph Island at the top of Lake Huron. We have naturalized daff's in the bush behind our place, and they are are such a pleasant surprise! Something to look forward to each spring.
They're just such sweet little flowers :) Thanks for watching to the end!
Fantastic line-up of events. I hope you are also planning several for 2024 because I'll be ready fir a visit. All the best to you both.
Hey Sarah and Steve, a nice visit into Bordeaux, it looks so nice there. So many things for 2023, very nice. I am signing up for your newsletter today. I am not a writer or a poet, so I guess it's the balcony for me. Thanks, you two. Love from N.Y.
Lol. How about some art? No experience required!
Creatives Heaven
Bordeaux looks amazing!
The more we explore, the more we like. I can't wait to see that fountain in the summer!
Such wonderful events to come! I only wish I could be there to fully immerse myself in all that creativity. You will be so busy!! Are you sure you don't need a resident massage therapist 😂?
😂 Right?! It would be amazing to have you as part of the team on the ground!
Lovely Plans you Both Got For This Year 🏰💕
Bonne chance with all your creative projects in 2023. You can vlog as often as you like with whatever content. Love the daffodils. We just got hammered with 6 inches of snow so Spring is still hiding for us. Thanks for sharing 😍😘
Wish I was seeing daffodils and not a foot of snow….. YYC spring takes forever!
My thoughts are the same as John Sinclair’s. Couldn’t have said it better. Take good care 🌺🌺🌺
We were in the same bit of Bordeaux last year, lovely little French restaurant near the square and church. Lovely City.
You'll have to give me the recommendation when you're here for the Belle Epoque!

@@ManorandMaker You're welcome. :) Looking forward to seeing those thousands of daffodils in bloom. Enjoy!
Bonjour Steve and Sarah so pleased you’re taking some Mee time creative diy working You tubers need to refuel freshen the mind your videos never boring always something behind the scenes which is what intrigues me about you both 😍👌Always a pleasure to see you have a fabulous week in your little paradise in France enchante💖💖😘😘👋👋🌟🌟

Our pleasure!
Thank you for sharing with us , 2023 sounds like it’s going to be a busy year for you both. Wishing you all the best with everything 🥰
I don't normally comment, but while I love your videos, I think you should take the time between them that you need! We'll always be here to watch them when they do go up. :)
Thanks! It's a fight between taking the time we need, and the RUclips algorithm, which rewards consistency...
So many exciting things coming up. You guys are busy! Our daffodils bloomed about 2 weeks ago here in South Carolina. The tulips are now starting to sprout.
Wow! To the daffodils!
Happy St. David's Day Steven!
You got to go and meet with Anna and Ed from Bordeaux Life. They are a lovely couple. Check out the Manor they just renovated. They also own a chateau and hold Weddings there.
Love the daffodils.
Maybe you can clean up some of the branches etc. it would be such a lovely place to sit down and paint.
You must take Care, have fun and rest. If not you do not have the power too do the job. 🥰
can't wait to see the Daphodils! sadly we all got hit with another reminder of winter this week. its been so called on our little yellow bonnets trying to open up after that glorious week last week. American neighbors near you, in the Dordogne.
Please keep giving us vlogs. What you both are doing is, I know, sharing a big part of your lives. But, I find it fascinating and yes, adventurous! There is a vlogger, whom you know, that puts out maybe 4 to 10 minutes a day. But, I still find your vlogs so uplifting and interesting. Maybe you could hire, a part time student to vlog you and produce for you. To put that extra time into your lives. And, it wouldn't feel like quite an extra burden. The vlogs you both put out are historically and artistically fascinating. If I could ever afford it, I would come to see you. You've opened up a new side of France for me I've never seen. Well to say the least, I love it!
So many cool things to look forward to this year! You guys are doing such a great job opening up your home to the public and making time for creatives to share their magic. Have you had any interest in outdoor theater, outdoor music, or outdoor floral art installations? I was also thinking it would be cool to see some guests that teach furniture restoration. Your beautiful dining room set has to be my favorite thing in the house right. It's absolutely gorgeous! The possibilities for events at the chateau are truly endless when it comes to creative minds. So excited to see what magical things 2023 brings to you. 💖💖💖
It’s been a pleasure to follow your journey!! Thanks for sharing and so excited for all your plans this year! Sending all the best all the way from Vancouver, Washington USA!
Wonderful, blessing to see all the creations going on!!! People have so many skills.
You are doing this so well! You made a good choice of location and chateau -- there will plenty of work to bring out its beauty but it's in good enough shape to host people and help you earn its keep -- I hope!!! Congratulations!
Wow you have been busy and not letting any "grass grow under your feet" the past 16mths. Thank you for the vlogs you put up and we realise you have a life and are business people. The trip to Bordeaux was interesting and we look fwd to whatever you are showing, hosting and making. Its great to see your dreams coming to fruition. I will sign up for newsletter today and make a plan. 🥰
Love bordeaux
I love your creative spirits! ❤️
Love you guys and all your cool ideas ❤
You are doing a wonderful job with the chateau and vlogs. I am impressed with what you are setting up for the art world. The events are exciting and varied. I would think anyone would consider it a privilege to visit and participate. It is great to see you explore France but don't be afraid to put the camera down and enjoy yourself sometimes. Carry on.....
Lovely vlog
You’re talking about the exoskeleton used to support a facade but the camera is watching the speaker not what he’s talking about. Wish I could swivel my own eyes where they need to be!!
Yes, excellent point. I could have used the first shot (the view up the scaffolding) over Stephen speaking....
I love the sound of your future plans by the way
Best wishes on all your new adventures 🎉❤
So exciting with all these events 🥰
Oh wow. I wish I wasn’t poor and living so far away. I’ve been writing poetry for more than 40 years. They are just in scrap books on a shelf.
