Mike, I really appreciate your work. I have to say, that even when I've got some kind of problems in cakewalk, it's many times faster to find solution on your channel, than on forums via google (which is really impressive) - and there's always this bonus - additional tips that makes me smarter after every problem. Thank you sir!
thank GOD you're covering this, 'cause I couldn't make heads or tails of it on my own and was hindered! ('spose the old system became rote habit) you're the best with straight to the point, accurate and efficient cakewalk tutorials!
Finally made the switch to CW by Bandlab. I was one of the long time hold outs from Sonar Platinum days and Win7. Hopefully, the learning curve will start to level out but have to learn so many things new. So far, I'm having a lot of fun with Cake. Calling is Cakewalk again takes me back to the old days of Twelve Tone Systems and Greg Hendershot. Wow that's been a while.
I think my brain has melted! - helped by Yalumba red wine from South Australia. I'm sure I'll be going back to this one - great tutorial as always Mike!
I was pretty overwhelmed by the new Export feature when I first saw it in early access, but it is beginning to make sense. I wish I'd had the task queue feature back when I was regularly exporting different combinations of stems with and without automation.
Nice video... I really like the export... I think it will help alot of people export faster with different options all in one go instead of in and out and sitting there when you have multiple bounces that need to be done it's a great time saver and don't forget that you can save presets in the export so if you have tags that you like to use you can save it and use it on different projects.. it's so good...😀
So glad I stumbled across your channel. Very helpful. I'm switching daws and the learning curve is certainly shortened with your insights and explanations. Thanks for the help.
Very good information! I'm wondering if there is a way to change globally meta information so you don't have to repeat info. Such as artist, copyright, album etc. Couldn't find it any where.
hello Mike, i must say your videos are very informative soon i´ve watched them all :) particularly in this one i had a great a-ha moment. i have had one or two problems with glitches when i export and couldn´t figure it out why, now i know, thank you very much!!
A very informative video Mike. I have not updated my set up yet, but will be dong so sooner rather than later having watched your tutorial. I wouldn't have thought it was possible to improve on the export method, but it just goes to show how wrong you can be! Your Facebook page is great as well. Some very interesting things coming up there.
+1 They also moved the default export file location (Local Disc (C:) > Cakewalk Content > Audio Library) That's like someone changing the drawer that you keep your socks in without asking... 😒
Great video. I've been hesitant to "upgrade' from SONAR X1 Professional to Cakewalk by Bandlab, but some of the things you've shown in your videos are good improvements.
So informative…“Handbrake” seems to be a really good way to reduce file size for distribution as an e mail…seemingly without much, if any, loss of sound quality!
This is from the audacity website about dither: If dither is set to "none", then conversions from one bit depth to a lower bit depth will be done by simple rounding. If dither is enabled, pseudo random variations are applied to inexact conversions so that the rounding does not always occur in the same direction. The rounded number will be statistically more likely to be converted to the closest value at the lower bit-depth. The closer the sample value is to an exact number, the greater the probability that it will be converted to that number. This has a smoothing effect on converted values, producing a result that sounds closer to the intended audio signal than would occur by simple rounding. At very low amplitude levels, this randomization can be heard as very low level noise, but this can be minimized by shaping the probability curves, and hence the frequency content of the noise. Shaped dither (the Audacity default) has a higher peak amplitude than other forms of dither, but the noise is concentrated in the very high frequency range where it is less audible. Triangle dither produces a lower peak amplitude of noise than Shaped, but the noise is concentrated less in the higher frequencies. There is marginally less degrading of the sound quality if you apply Triangle dither twice than if you apply Shaped dither twice. Rectangle dither produces a similar noise amplitude as Triangle, but with very small amounts of randomization (in the order of +/- 1 bit). The frequency distribution is fairly even, such that it approximates white noise. Unlike the other two forms of dither, rectangle does not add noise to absolute silence.
The Cakewalk destruction manual kind of explains the dithering, it's mainly used when mixing down to a lesser quality, such as mp3, or like Mike said "16 bit" wav... The manual does a decent job explaining the difference in the types of dithering also👍
A lil help guys. I've exported my file, in both wav and FLAC, but says corrupted file. I import my file and use free bandlab mastering features. But, this one wouldn't load in, showing corrupted file. Any idea, how to fix that? Or what could be the problem?
Can you export in multiple formats at the same time? Such as WAV and AIFF. I work a lot in Sync and different libraries want different formats...for that matter can you also do different sample/bit rates at the same time...some want 48 some want 44.1. Very enlightening video though. Thanks a bunch for doing this and I just submitted to join your FB group, cheers,
Those new export features are very good indeed. Next feature I like to see is a bulk export. So you have mixed a bunch of songs, and then export them all automatically. While that is running I can go to the local pub 😉
Thanks Mike, I seem to get the blank space at the end of songs all the time and sometimes I really can't find what causes it so the range option is going to save me so much time! Have you tried the improved audiosnap yet? I avoided using it before because it was hit and miss, but it's definitely better now.
This was a real aggravation for me as I produce TV and radio commercials and found that my 60 second spots were being exported with an additional 90 seconds of silence at the end. The solution? There was an automation node that somehow found its way into the track 90 seconds after the commercial ended. Deleting that single node solved the problem.
Your instructions are marvelous. I ran into the issue of my exported file's audio is very low after the export. What is it that am not doing correctly?
Hack: An easy way to set the song length for export is to use the Arranger to make one long selection. Also if you're supplying production music for TV etc. then mastering within the project is a must due to the sheer number of track versions needed for deliverables, and subsequent edit requests.
I have noticed that if you do like me and right click on your plugins and have them upsample on rendering then raising the buffer gives you a little faster render time. The combination of up sampling and the larger buffer seems to give a slightly better quality but that could just be my ears, try it an see waht you think. Great info as always Mike, and I hope your well too>
Hi. Thank you for your excellent video. So what is the difference between exporting the Entire Mix and Hardware Outputs?. I want a file with all the processed effects used in Cakewalk, and to finally master it in T-Racks. Thank you.
Thanks for this highly useful video Mike. One question: Is there a way of exporting such that all tracks start at measure 1 and finish at the end of the last measure? In other words, BL fills in the gaps.
Hi mike hope your well I have tried as many options as possible on how to extract as per your instruction but unfortunately I can't download the whole project...only one track was extracted....do you have any advice on this....thank you...
Great Video thank you. But I am having problems with exporting entire mix some of the tracks are not in mixdown sometimes. I have not figured out why yet. It could be something to do with third party plugins or it could be the auxs that I use causing some tracks not to bounce in the mix. Question has anyone else encountered this problem ?
Hello Mike, I watch your vids and when I get information I need, I tip you. My question to you is this; (You may have done a video on this and I missed it) I've seen you running effects in separate tracks. However, when I tried to do it I couldn't because I couldn't understand how to set up the sends. Any vids done or coming out on this?
i think the export menu is super useful! the only thing i wish is that it had an option to export with things like reverb tails and delays included in the project length, cause i find it kind of difficult to get cakewalk to export empty regions that are still generating sound. i also saw that FL Studio has an option to "wrap" reverb tails from the end to the beginning of a track so that it loops perfectly and i think that would be really cool to add. does anyone know if there's a way to do that currently in cakewalk? its a really interesting feature to me.
I started a project, a number of years ago, in audacity, and exported it into cakewalk....it's showing up as a stereo track....is there any way to make it mono? (because I want to finish it in cakewalk)
Hi, I am using cakewalk in mixing but when I export the file, something is changing in my mix like for example, it sounds perfect to me when using monitor speakers/headphones but after exporting, either the bgm's volume or the vocals is changing. Most of the time, the musiccs volume gets lower making the vocals sounds louder but i am sure that it was balanced prior exporting. Hope you can help me with this. It is time consuming especially when exporting because I have to re-mix and re-export a lot of times just to get the correct volumes of tracks. Thank you Edited: I am exporting it in Wav, 48000 Sample rate and 16bit/32bit. Nothing is being changed aside from that.
curently there is no option to use old, simplified export menu? I tried the new one in the alternative computer and cant get along with it so ia am still hesitating wuth updtading cakewalk on my main PC.
Since you asked. Yep I still burn to CDs. I send my songs to a friend for critiques, who lives about 1500 miles away, and I don't want to send him mp3's. Also, both our cars have CD players.
Help Please... In the exported audio, the loudness seems to be going down as it progresses... That doesn't happen when playing in the DAW Why is that ? How can I overcome it ?
How do I get stems to download the full length of the track? I can't figure out Cakewalk yet, but Bandlab lets you down load stems but only the length of the stem.
Hi Mike, I hope you´re having a good day, I was wondering if you could help me... I've been exporting some songs and they turn out with a great volume lost, I don't even know what is happening, I've check my levels and everithing seems to be ok, but after the export process they lost a lot of volume :( I'm exportin .wav and .mp3 files. Thank you in advance
im using motu 24 interface....when i export track comes playback is slower..no idea how to remedy this....HELP PLSE ! using 424 pci card..everything is 44.1 24
Very good video. Thank you. But I have to agree with TayZonday. The new export menu offers a lot of functionality that is probably not needed by 90% of users, and just creates confusion. I've been exporting WAV files for 10 years, but when I make one now it will show up -- but not play -- in iTunes. I can't figure out why not. Anyone else having this issue?
The new export killed my ability to export mp3 (all silent) and even if it worked I have to enter the settings a second time for the lame mp3 exporter.
Another good video that I can point to, when people are struggling and I can say "Mike's got you covered" !
Lol, thank you :)
Cheers from France to Australia!
Thanks for your videos, Mike!
My pleasure!
Thatnk you, Mike !! I was really surprised when I opened the export dialog yesterday !! This helps to clear up everything nicely ... love it 👍🏼👍🏼
Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks again.
I've returned to this video because it describes how to export individual stems (tracks). So helpful -- Thank you!
Thank you so much for this. I've been trying to figure out the best way to export my project since I've updated last week. 😊😊
I hope it helps!
Always great to hear you explaining Cakewalk features. Very helpful.
Mike, I really appreciate your work. I have to say, that even when I've got some kind of problems in cakewalk, it's many times faster to find solution on your channel, than on forums via google (which is really impressive) - and there's always this bonus - additional tips that makes me smarter after every problem. Thanks, Mike. You're my go-to for CW info.
thank GOD you're covering this, 'cause I couldn't make heads or tails of it on my own and was hindered! ('spose the old system became rote habit) you're the best with straight to the point, accurate and efficient cakewalk tutorials!
A very thorough run thru of the export functions. Well done and thank you!

There's loads of help available - as well as Mike's superb videos the official Cakewalk Forum is really helpful. Hope you enjoy the ride!
Another great, clear and concise video, Mike. Thank you!
I think my brain has melted! - helped by Yalumba red wine from South Australia. I'm sure I'll be going back to this one - great tutorial as always Mike!
Oh wow !! This video has opened my eyes to another feature I was not aware of! Thank you so much Mike 👍👍
I was pretty overwhelmed by the new Export feature when I first saw it in early access, but it is beginning to make sense. I wish I'd had the task queue feature back when I was regularly exporting different combinations of stems with and without automation.
Thanks, Mike You've made my CW journey much easier!!
Happy to hear that thanks Steve!
Great Explanations, thanks Mike, I like the new export features it is much better organised.
My pleasure Darren :)

The Facebook group is building really well - come on over!
I really liked the export menu the way it was for 25 years (since Cakewalk 6.0) before the latest changes 😆. But maybe I’m old.
Me too.
+1
They also moved the default export file location (Local Disc (C:) > Cakewalk Content > Audio Library)
That's like someone changing the drawer that you keep your socks in without asking... 😒
I never knew how to add metadata. this is very helpful.
Nice, that looks very handy. I've just updated but not checked it out yet but already do love the {tag} system. Thanks much for the info, Cheers!
Yeah, its pretty neat.
Great video. I've been hesitant to "upgrade' from SONAR X1 Professional to Cakewalk by Bandlab, but some of the things you've shown in your videos are good improvements.
Thanks alot about the 64 bit engine part, I tend to use alot of 64 bit plugins so i definitely think it will come in handy. Great video!

Stem cell therapy is the wave of the future.
So would the export Busses option be how you would send out stems?

@@xlsxmusic On the audio effects if you right click on the plugin frames you are given the option to playback or render up sampled.

Thanks Mike. As usual very informative. In the 'queue tasks' section, is there a way to configure it to export .WAV and then .MP3 etc ?
Yes, absolutely Andrew. Just setup a task for each type of export, and add them to the queue :)
How can I email my project. This upgrade changed the emailing format. I'm lost ... can u help me please 🙏 thank u in advance. Great video 🙌
I’ve been using “buses” / “Master” in what to export. Would this be the same result as “Entire Mix”?
Great vid - l sent a lot of- thx.
Bandlab Assistant says Cakewalk is up to date but export still does not this new dialog.
Try doing a fresh install - CbB doesn't need Bandlab Assistant any more

Hi mike hope your well I have tried as many options as possible on how to extract as per your instruction but unfortunately I can't download the whole project...only one track was extracted....do you have any advice on this....thank you...

I transport an entire project from my desktop to my laptop occasionally by creating bundle files. Is there a better way to do this?
If it has support for .flac files then space is saved (about 40%) without any loss of sound quality, hence the term 'lossless compression'.
i think the export menu is super useful! the only thing i wish is that it had an option to export with things like reverb tails and delays included in the project length, cause i find it kind of difficult to get cakewalk to export empty regions that are still generating sound. i also saw that FL Studio has an option to "wrap" reverb tails from the end to the beginning of a track so that it loops perfectly and i think that would be really cool to add. does anyone know if there's a way to do that currently in cakewalk? its a really interesting feature to me.

Who Is Better Thank Mike Xplaining Cakewalk Features??? When I Become A BIG STAR UR Gonna Mix & Master My Album Man!!! LOL!!!
Spot on 👍 I watched another video explaining this before Mike's came out and switched off after a few. Knutes because it was so unclear.
I was able to export it to bandlab but I cant export it straight form my computer. Almost quittting on cakewalk
I hope you change your mind and come back to cakewalk by bandlab and use it as primary DAW
How do I export a track with the click track on it?
After I've exported and click on the file , it doesn't play anything. I can't work it out. I'm very new
Did you ever figure it out? I'm having the same problem

Yup, I still burn to CD. I test my xports on my car’s old CD player.
Hello ^^
