  • This is my first video for San Antonio gardening. I made this channel and video because I don’t see a lot of videos specific to gardening in the San Antonio area. I am not an expert gardener but I am learning and growing each year and hope to share my knowledge and learn from my audience. Thank you for watching.
    My goal with this channel is to answer some common questions like those below. If you have expertise you would like to share on this channel please leave a comment and let me know.
    I would like to thank the following channels for inspiring me and teaching me a lot.

    I love your round bed! I have extreme dry heat in summer. I tried planting potatoes in part shade and they did not do well. When I planted them in full sun they did much better. This surprised me since our heat gets up to 115°. I start everything as soon as the danger of frost has passed.

    Howdy neighbor, I'm in Schertz also. Glad to see someone doing a gardening channel for the San Antonio area! I've been here about 10 years and doing gardening for about 8. Really wished I had known more when I first started, I would've just worked on soil for the first year and not worried about flowers so much! 😆 Digging here is no joke 😵
    Smart idea about rotating the circle/key bed! Do you have dappled sun all day in the area you were showing? Recently had a mature cedar elm in our front yard diagnosed with rot in the lower 3 feet of the trunk, so it will have to be removed in the next year or so, feeling pretty sick about losing that shade! We'll put another tree in the front, but it's going to be awhile before we can enjoy it!

      Thanks for the comment and following along. I do have dappled sunlight in the area where the circle garden is and I have been primarily focused on soil development. If I get the soil right I should be able to do all sorts of things in the future. Stay tuned for more.

    I too am happy you started making videos. I live in San Antonio and I have a family member that lives in Cibolo up your way. I was wondering how much sun you get. My yard is mostly shade but my family member's yard gets a lot of sun and the plants do great over there. Keep putting out videos. I love to get ideas on gardening.

      Thanks for watching. In my yard I have some spots that are full shade, partly shade, and full sun. I am experimenting with plants to see what grows best in the different areas.

    Buenos días. Just found this video and I agree. So happy there’s a video specific to our area. Planting and gardening in south Texas is no joke. The heat and the sun do not know how to play nice with our plants.

    Thank you so much for this channel. I love the simplicity of your set up. Im a container gardener since were renting, but im interested in learning about soil amending and in ground planting now that im helping my mom start her garden bed on the far southside. The soil is mainly sand out there but we’re slowly starting the process amending with garden soil and cow manure… haha we don’t know much on what were doing but we’re just jumping in.

      Thanks joining and all the kind words. Just about everything I know about gardening I learned in the last few years from RUclips so I figured it’s my time to give back. I think the quickest way to get the soil going is just lay down a bunch of wood chips. I would recommend watching a documentary called back to Eden. It’s really inspiring. If there are any topics you want me to cover just let me know and thanks again. AJ

    Wow, keep it going. I’ve been gardening for a couple of years here in San Antonio it’s always a challenge . I also have pomegranate trees, this spring planted plum and nectarine. Started with flower beds but now I wish I would’ve used them instead for garden beds. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!!

    Great idea to start this channel! I'm in Boerne and I'm always on the hunt for creators specific to here. I'm just starting my garden after moving here a couple of years ago, but I def appreciate the experience you seem to have and will be all the way tuned in. Quick question, I see you have your blueberries in the ground, I'm on the other side of town but was told I need to keep them in a big pot because our soil was too alkaline, is that true for you as well? And if so how are you amending it to keep them fruiting?

    • @sanantoniogardening
      @sanantoniogardening  Год назад

      Thank you for tuning in and the comment. I started living here in 2020 and was also surprised that nobody had a local RUclips channel so I figured why not do my own. As for the blueberries I was told the same thing but I also did some research on amending the soil with sulfur. That’s what I did. I dug a big hole and made my own soil with with sulfer to get the PH right. So far I have only gotten a handful of berries from the plants. Not sure if it’s the soil, location, or some other factor. I’ll keep you updated throughout the year. Thanks again for watching.

    Hello, from Spring Branch! Do you have limestone very far down under your soil!?

    • @sanantoniogardening
      @sanantoniogardening  8 месяцев назад +1

      Hi and thank you for the comment. In most of my yard I hit limestone rock as soon as I start digging. I usually have to break it up if I plant trees or bushes.
