Flyers fan here. Joel Farabee should only get better as he finds his game. He had career highs this year and he will tell you he could have played a lot better. Joel Farabee and Scott Laughton to Buffalo makes A LOT of sense. Not sure what the return would be, but I am not going to be shocked if these two teams make a solid deal this summer.

I think one reason why so many former Sabres, especially guys that were or supposed to be top level guys for Buffalo, have gone on to have noticeable postseason success elsewhere is because they are not expected to set the culture for their next teams. They typically can be cogs on an already functioning wheel. With Buffalo, they were expected to establish a winning culture and they failed miserably in doing so. They were not effective leaders for Buffalo. They go elsewhere and just play.
I think we could eventually say the Sabres should take “a little” out of Florida’s playbook with big trade, but not right now. We have to be a playoff team first to see what our young players become. Doing it now could lead to a Tim Murray 2.0 premature disaster. We have to take into account that Florida and several other teams have a huge advantage with free agents over Buffalo. The weather and less taxes being a huge advantage alone. Right now we need to stick to Adams’ plan and make adjustments later on after we’re already competing in the playoffs. It’s way too early to write off any of our young players without testing things out for a little longer. THAT should be the key lesson we’ve learned throughout the entire drought! If we still had all those former players and did things right we would already be a really good team.

You do appear to be lowballing pick 11... at the same time, the sabres have a ton of guys who should be nearly ready to make the show like Rosen, Savoie, Ostland, Kulich and others. If McDavid has another 5 or 6 seasons of 120 to 150 points, then another 5 or 6 seasons of 80 to 100 points, and ends up with 2,200 or 2,300 career points along with 3 or 4 Cups, and a couple of Conn Smythes and a total of 6 or 7 Harts, THEN, you might be able to say he has reached the Orr, Lemieux echelon.
To be fair, if Philly didn’t have to give picks up to dump ghost on the Coyotes AND give up a haul of picks to get Risto, they might not mind the player.
