- It's Adam Koralik here and today we're discussing the Atari Jaguar Game Drive (Gamedrive) by RetroHQ. This is a flash cartridge for the Atari Jaguar that can allow for Atari Jaguar games to be played off of a single cartridge. It's basically an everdrive, but not an everdrive.

Don’t own a Jaguar, nor do I plan on owning one, but I’ll still watch
Same here, same here
Your missing out it's a unique little system. Even if it has more bad games than good. I recommend Doom, Wolfenstein 3d , Raiden and super burnout
@@travismcdowell8352 only problem is how uncommon and expensive it is
@@KatsuyaTheFuuk yeah I know I have nostalgia I remember always wanted one and thinking it was an awesome system cause of the commercials 64 bits. When I was 10 years old and later bought one back in 2008
Hopefully, they'll make a clone console or mini emulation one.
It blows my mind stuff like this even exists. I knew ONE kid in the 90s who had an Atari Jaguar when they were still making them. I just remember him having Tempest 2000 and Alien vs Predator, but I know he had at least half a dozen other games for it. Then I never saw one again until I saw one at a retro game store in my area 2 years ago. I've always been on the fence about wanting to own one. Now due to price it's not going to happen, sadly. Growing up the three systems I wanted were Turbografx, Jaguar and Sega Saturn. And, yes, all my Nintendo, Playstation and PC Master Race friends thought I was insane for wanting them. Of those I did eventually get a Saturn so that's been my focus, but if I won the lottery I'd get the other two in a heartbeat. Still, getting a system and then one of these is VERY tempting.
I love how you got yours for free and people with original pre-orders were canceled without notice. 🤣
I just bought a jaguar and I NEED this flashcart. Hope we have new units on the way.
Go to Atariage.com and get on the waiting list.
@@XV250 I have already done it. Thanks anyway 👍
Also because most Atari jaguar games are overpriced to begin with.
I've been watching you since 2013, still amazed how you still do the same type of videos in the same place, I love your channel
That's cool, not a system I'm crazy about but I like it when they put these all in one carts out
I remember Electronics Boutique selling Jaguars off in the UK for £99
My manager says when he was at GameStop in the late 90's they had stacks of new Jag CD units for £10
I got one for $20 around the same time the Saturn came out, along with Doom and Wolfenstein for $5 each.
Haha KayBee toystores had them for $99 here at one point. With Tempest 2000, I believe?
I’ve been trying to get my hands on one of these for about *half a year now! Pretty dope
I'm always impressed how all your videos are one cut. keep up the good work.
*10 REASONS TO OWN A JAG*
Alien vs Predator
DOOM
Wolfenstein 3D
Super Burnout
Tempest 2K
Power Drive Rally
Iron Solider
Raiden
Ultra Vortek
Rayman
... unfortunately I've never played Iron Solider 2, BattleSphere, Skyhammer, or Battlemorph. I personally also enjoy Zool 2 & NBA JAM TE 😎
Atari karts was fun I always thought
SkyHammer.
Thank you very much for this excellent video.
I was one of the first to acquire the Jaguar GD in Atari Age, I had many doubts about this cartridge and thanks to you they are clarified.
Thanks again!
And the Jag CD progress is flying along too
9:25 Is "International Sensible Soccer" as good as "NBA Jam Poppycock Basketball?"
I've been waiting for a Jaguar flash cart for soooo long. This is awesome.
There was a missed opportunity to make a “Do The Math!” joke when talking about putting all games on one cart.
A Flash Cart for the Jaguar, neat. I don't need it, but for those that do, enjoy!
Great review Adam!
This is awesome, its a great way to play games in your collection without using the original , which can be hella clutch if it's a super valuable one.
I’ve got a jag, jag cd and the retro hq flash cart and it’s really worth it. Great to know jag cd support is coming as it’ll spare wear and tear on the jag cd too.
Great video Adam!
Somebody should develop one that utilizes the cartridge slot on the Saturn. and we're not talking about the slot in the back or getting rid of your CD drive but rather using that cartridge slot that you're actually replay goes into and it also allow it to do game saves and one and four Meg ram upgrades. Cuz we know it is possible to run games off of the Saturn cartridge slot because there are games that run partially off the disc and partially off the cartridge and of course action replay runs off the cartridge as well
This is so awesome! I own an Atari jaguar with around just under half of the cartridge library. I've been wanting to play games like Atari Karts & I finally can.
My friend has a Jaguar that I can buy for 100 bucks. With the cart, it’s tempting. Also it’s funny when you say that Atari makes misunderstood things. Seems to be a trend that even affects the new VCS despite them being a completely different company.
$100 US for a working Jaguar console is a ridiculously good deal - these days a working console easily goes for $250+ US. Does that include power supply, controller, video cable, etc.
@@XV250 yes. It's a friend that bought it a long time ago
@@SuperNicktendo Go for it. I own one.
Agreed, i think it’s really a shame that people don’t see the value in the Atari name. And most of the hate comes from people that never even owned a Jaguar or a VCS and are too young to even know what Atari was..
@@MicklowFilms I remember when the Atari Jaguar came out and honestly it didn't impress me. To be fair, there are some good ports of games on it. NBA JAM TE, raiden, Rayman, can't think of others. Atari karts is fun. As bad as ultra vortek was, I loved it for the demonic voice and the eyeball that would follow your fighters.
i boght my jag with CD attachment a few years after the console was discontinued and ill never get rid of it...
A great way to experience the Jaguar for cheap since some Jaguar games are getting very rare and expensive these days. Plus it’s great that homebrew developers are starting to make games for it as well. Although it’s missing the CD games..
Now that this is available on the Jag and there's 2 modern SD adapters for the Atari 7800, the only 2 consoles left without modern SD solutions are the Mattel Intellivision and the Vectrex [okay, maybe that RCA console and the Bally Astrocade too]. I would recommend going to the AtariAge website Forums - specifically the Jaguar section - since there's an active group of coders porting Atari ST games to the Jag and enhancing them. They'll also do cool stuff like add the audio from different platforms if the game was available on multiple platforms and since the guys doing the ports have mastered the Jaguar DSP to play back audio from numerous sound chips.
Damn, you Americans and Canadians are so lucky with your retro stuff.
Cool product. Would love a jaguar or jaguar cd but never see them ever in the wild. Awesome video.
I need this for my Jag, but ugh 228 US dollars converted from 168 British pounds is pricey. I have about 10 Jaguar games. I’m waiting for a Virtualboy flash cart.
I was thinking the same thing. I have 24 Jaguar games (complete with cartridges in boxes with manuals and controller overlays) and I am interested in this Jaguar flashcart... but $228 in U.S money?!? That's very, VERY pricey for a flashcart . Especially since I got most of my Jaguar collection back during 2014 when prices were very cheap in general. I'm a bit shocked Jaguar game prices have increased dramatically over the last few years. I know that the upcoming Atari VCS is suppose to be an emulation machine on steroids so I'm wondering if that thing will run Jaguar games. Considering the Atari VCS is suppose to be only $300, if it does run Jaguar games on a good emulator I might consider it (especially since it can also run emulators for Playstation 2, Gamecube, original Xbox, etc) instead of paying $228 for a Jaguar flashcart.
Why do I need this I have and reviewed all the games for this system 😃
Convenience?
Right now im on the retro towers waiting list and i have been on the atari age waiting list for nearly a year now, SELL ME ONE DAMMIT!
My biggest and must fallow my everyone rule wean dealing with flash carts and ODEs form anyone for any system is this. You never format the SD card or USB Drive with FDisk on Windows, Disk Unity on MAC, or what ever the version of Linux or Unix you use has preinstalled.
I have the retro HQ for the Atari Lynx II with the case. Super happy with it. I was on the waiting list for almost a year.
Two years have passed since this video. Are there any updates? Does it now support Jaguar CD games?
I think there's been some firmware updates yeah, but I haven't personally tested it.
Speaking of Sega, I really really want Paprium. But that price is way too high for me. This is pretty cool man, I never had a Jag, but sold one for a friend once before they got pricey. I still feel bad about that...
same here... but I use MegaSg which it doesnt even work on, and that price is prettyyyyy steep.
I'm praying they eventually release it on Steam for a reasonable price. I would love to own it and play on an actual Sega Genesis, but it's brand new as much as the Genesis version of Streets of Rage 3 which is just a rare game everyone wants and why it's so much. That's reasonable, but Paprium... jesh....
LoL imagine what it would be like to have all PS4 games on a single disc ... Imagine the size required 😂
200TB+ there is a list of all libraries somewhere with sizes needed for each and I feel that was an estimate from a couple years back, we will have quartz 3D floating point storage cubes before that though
Great video
I'd love to see a Jaguar mini console with the best hits. All I would need but cool to see these devices coming out rather rapidly.
I regret cancelling my pre order for this thing. I'm a HUGE Jaguar fan so this is something I'm gonna have to look out for.
All the cool kids are playing *Jag*
I would like to see a video about the Atari VCS 800 from you. I know it's not really relevant, but when it was announced I was hyped for it. And I think they did a good job with their possibilities.
Aww man i feel bad, you mentioned the neo Geo and it's cart being a necessity, I have had my Geo almost 10 years and I only got my first game 4 months ago
7:40 I find it kind of ironic these flashcarts have DRM. :P
Just waiting for that Atari Aston Martin cartridge baby!!!
And as for expenses, the Jaguar is definitely in the NeoGeo range. Just think about the cost of holding a Battlesphere tournament with 16 Jaguars networked together. First, you'd need 16 Jaguar consoles. For ideal gaming, you'd want 2 Jaguar ProControllers per console [for a total of 32 controllers for 32 players]. Before there was that homebrew project that ran a modern reproduction run of ProControllers, those suckers were selling used for $500 a piece on eBay. Then if you wanted an ICD Catbox Adapter for networking [there were other alternatives of course], those could also run $500 used on eBay for each, and you'd need 16 of those. And finally, you'd need 16 copies of Battlesphere on cartridge, and they could run $500 - $1,200 each depending on how lucky you were at auction if you wanted to be legal since they're still selling them "new". That's a small fortune right there...
Ah, RetroTowers. Turbografx flash tech has certainly come far since your 2012 vid on RetroTowers’ initial flash circuit board designed like a Hucard...
Managed to get 😎🤟
How?
@@matthewthorns8460 games connection and Stone Age gamer
I had a friend back then when it was new with the Jaguar & CD. It was fun but, I still have nightmares of the controller. I still kinda want one.
I'd really like to get this but I'm probably going to hold out 'til it supports Jaguar CD. Great videos as always though.
That's wonderful. I've a Jag sitting there for years without being able to get games cause there're so uncommon and expensive... I only played it thanks to lendings from my collector friends. There're some very good games, like DooM, Rayman, Tempest 2000, ecc..., on it and a funny number of strange, mostly unknown exclusive games to try and discover. Stuff like Atar Karts, White Men Can't Jump, Skyhammer, ecc...
AARRRRRGG Me Bucko be a Game Pirate and be proud of it , YYAAAARRRR Game Drive for everyone ⚔️🏆😸👍👍
I ordered a year and a half ago before creator announced not fulfilling orders directly. Now I've read will be sold by stone age gamer starting in February so I will finally pick it up then!!!!!
I bought a Jaguar and a n64 for £20 from game station when game bought them out and they were clearing all the retro out.still got them
I wound also remand not using the Windows F disk app or the MACs disk unity app on them; download the SD Formater app form the SD card aslotion's site.
Adam up to his usual tricks again.
For owners of an original Jaguar it Is a must own. No real person can afford the original cartridges I guess. I tried out Atari Karts and Alien vs Predator yesterday for the first time, and I was positively surprised by both games btw.
Hello My Friend👍😊
I enjoyed watching your video.
This sounds really cool and I would buy one. Too bad I put my Jaguar in storage years ago and I can't find it anymore.
Dig harder!
Speaking of homebrews, I wish Atari Owl didn't get cancelled. :(
I need this man, but no stock
Never thought this would actually happen considering how poorly that thing sold, still cool nonetheless
I hope they do update it to play it with the Jaguar cd because I am one of those people as well. The Atari Jaguar cd is fragile as is and apply and taking off the cd unit isn't recommended. They just dropped some of these on their website so I ordered one. I hope they fix this issue.
12:45 your buddy Orion needs to change his logo screen, it looks too similar to the one Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer uses in some of their movies
The Orion production company? They don't even exist any more.
@@AdamKoralik I kinda meant it as a joke knowing they were defunct/absorbed by MGM, but I thought Orion Pictures was recently revived for _Bill & Ted Face The Music_ 🤷♂️
I'm buying this on payday just started collecting jaguar its so expensive this is the way to go
You found someone that has them in stock :o I've been waiting to see one in stock for 9months
Plain' some JAG!! 🐱👤
Wait the Jaguar CD can play carriage games from the port. I had to remove mine to play games. I know the port works because it saves to the memory track(weird name for the memory card).
Also I assume this but does save functionality work?
It does, yeah.
Hey Adam, i know its unrelated to Atari Jaguar, but after watching your last Neo Geo video i got thinking, i'd be willing to lend out my AES with Uni-Bios 4.0 and MVS to AES cartridge converter if you wanted to do an episode on:
Uni-Bios & its features
MVS compatibility on AES
NG cartridges having 6 different versions per Rom Cart (3 MVS versions & 3 AES versions)
Let me know as i think that would make an interesting video.
I appreciate that, I might take you up on it at some point.
If you decide to take me up on that send a DM on discord same username name as youtube
@@Xavious061 Are you in my Discord?
@@AdamKoralik I am, yes. I have the same user name and profile picture
I had a Jaguar and Jaguar CD in mint condition sealed in black trash bags for safe keeping and kept in the garage. My dad contracted dementia and mistook it for garbage... along with the rest of my museum...
I'm....so sorry....
@@AdamKoralik In the market for another, but only after I find one of these doogads.
I love the Atari Jaguar!!!!!!
Now all we need is a Jaguar clone system. Maybe Analogue can do one of their own? I’d be hyped considering their other clones are pretty sweet. Hell if they did the Neo Geo, they can do the Jaguar.
It’s too niche of a market for them to make any money
@@matthewnikitas2904 So was the Neo Geo and that Turbo Duo system but there they are.
I miss my Jaguar. This thing is cool. But where do you get the ROMs?
High seas of the internet.
Gah, I don’t ever seem to get notified for over a year now. Does thing ever get restocked or I just miss notifications?
Not sure to be honest. Check out RetroTowers.
Or get on the waiting list over at the AtariAge store.
Hey Adam.
Could you ask your hardware contacts about where I might be able to source some gamecube connectors? I really don't want to use parts from a real cube for this project.
Hardware contacts?
@@AdamKoralik Yeah the people that create accessories and mod consoles and stuff. I'm wondering if any of them might know where to source those connectors.
I've looked around and asked a few places but I haven't really gotten any answers.
I never owned a Jaguar and don't know anyone who did. But I still watched all the same. Now we need a FPGA clone for those people who want to get into Jaguar gaming without the hefty price tag.
Nice 👍
Cool video tech talk lol yes ok yep oh ok adam
I really wonder at what point in the development cycle did somebody raise their hand and say "should we really be making a game console that perfectly resembles a toilet?". Atari lost its way when instead of making a proper follow up to the 2600 they tore up their script in 1978 or so and decided to follow Apple into the far more lucrative home PC market. They ended up making an amazing line of PC's but they lost all their video game console momentum with that fateful decision. As a "big picture" Atari fan I wish they had never made the Jaguar TBH.
Do they make hdmi adapters for it or were any of them modded just like the Amiga CD32 one?
The console has native composite, S-Video, and RGB out. It's just.... annoying to get the cables.
hello is it normal to have a buzz hum sound in the menu of game drive and after start game it goes away?
Depends on how you have it connected. With RF, that wouldn't surprise me.
@@AdamKoralik yes with RF sadly
@@katseazzz Yeah, that's your answer right there.
Did the Jaguar CD firmware update happen?
Actually I'm not sure.
which do you better have the original Arcada or arcade1up?
I don't really want either to be honest.
Pretty expensive for me since I own a lot of the good jag games, the main one I'm missing is alien vs predator.
"It's all in the manual if you don't wanna hear some nerd on youtube rambling about it"
That's... why I'm here
It been running Cd based games for long time now ;*)
I sold my atari jaguar about 4... 5 years ago and regret it to this day, even more so now.
Adam I have a question..... Did they remove s-video from the coloured pal nintendo 64s? I have the red transparent pal nintendo 64.
As far as I know, the N64 always supported S-Video.
@@AdamKoralik Thanks for the reply.
web-site is down. Where is working store and how much?
It's down? No idea, haven't looked in a long time.
I miss my jaguar 64 and iron soldier and tempest 2000.😑
We need an Everdrive for the Amiga CD32 next.........
There already is in a roundabout way...
The TF330 accelerator has an option for Flash Card attachment, so it's basically a hard drive for your Amiga CD32, that contains all of the games you'd want for it as well as giving a huge performance boost on 3D games.
@@RichardTroupe Thanks! Where can I get one?
@@Prime-1111X If you search for Terrible Fire 330 Amiga accelerator on Google, you should be able to find someone making and selling them on one of the Amiga forums like EAB.
Sandisk are like, the cheapest sd cards anyway, the extra dollar off isnt worth the risk from china.
"Because of how expensive the Jaguar has become, especially with the CD add-on"
What? I gave just over $200 for both, just how bad is it?
*Checks Ebay.
.............wtf.
*Remembers that purchase was 10+ years ago.
Exactly.
I know the feeling. I managed to get a Sega Dreamcast, 6 controllers, 5 VMU's and 16 games for 160€. That happened back in 2008. I still have the console and most of the stuff.
@@Millenium-Mige That's about the time I picked one up. Little over $100 for console four controllers 4 VMU's and a handful of games.
After I checked up on that I decided to run some of my other consoles through. TG-16+CD, Turbo Duo, Neo Geo AES, etc.
Seeing the prices like that I should ahve been a little happier. They're worth far more now than what I paid for them. I wasn't though. Kinda bummed really.
I realize what I'm about to say could be seen as controversial in collector circles. I'm kinda hoping it tanks.
Back in 2014 I paid $100 for an Atari Jaguar which came with nine games, all in boxes, as well as four controllers. I'm very shocked that the Atari Jaguar prices have skyrocketed in a few short years.
@@johnpenguinthe3rd13 Even in 2014 that was pretty good price. Especially with the extras. I gave what I did for the consoles and one controller. Only reason it was as cheap as it was is because the CD unit was "non functioning". One loose wire re-soldered later, fully functional.

Um....wait until it's done I guess.
@@AdamKoralik oh thought you had gotten it.
And while your at it, sell me a ym2017 cart.
There's no Atari Jaguar emulation software, is there?
There is, yes.
@@AdamKoralik Whaaaaa...? I'm going to be spending Friday night looking into this. Thanks for the tip!
There are two reputable emulators. One called Virtual Jaguar that runs the bulk of 2D games, but is weak with the 3D games. The better emulator is Project Phoenix, but it is a Russian-made emulator that requires tweaking to get running in English.
I been wanting to buy one but they are always out of stock :(
Yeah, it's a very low production run item unfortunately.
