They aren't integrated into the series, rely on convuluted events in a desparate attempt to rehash old successes, and aren't built on continuity. It depends on the genre. If you have a distinct setting (e.g, future dystopia, alien world, fantasy), you can easily approach the same world from other angles without undermining the original story. Back to the Future is very character focused, and dragging in someone new/revisiting the original characters is nigh impossible without the plot feeling contrived.

Nah, you've overrated it. BTTF II and III were only average. First one was a classic. On another topic, there's 30 years between 1955 and 1985, yet society was very different. Not so much today. Imagine going back 30 years from 2024 to 1994.... not much difference! Slower computers, no smart phones or flat screens, not much else.
I have been wishing Tom Holland would make a bio movie about Michael J Fox's life. Mainly the Family Ties/ Back to the future trilogy and his parkinson's diagnosis. I think this would be remarkable movie to watch. I've loved Michael for over 40 years.

As long as Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd are on board and have a big say, I am open to it. There is a lot of potential, but later years sequels rarely deliver on that potential. Ghostbusters is a great example of living up to the possibilities and including a lot of the original cast, so it can be done!

Originally a No from me, BUT, especially with the Tobey Spider-Man trilogy which I also thought didn’t NEED reboots (and still don’t), some of the newer films are still enjoyable to a lesser degree. Especially the Ghostbusters movies post 2016. If it’s done with RESPECT, I can accept it 🤷🏻♂️👍🏻

I would like to believe that this 'part 4' will turn out to be interesting and exciting and more importantly, paying homage to the original trilogy with Fox and Lloyd. Sequels with new actors however how much they look like the originals, are not the same or as good. The best the new film can do is be complimentary to the originals.
This is tempting, no doubt. You would need a trilogy which surpasses the original in order to avoid diluting it. While I make no claim such a creation is impossible, I would need to see more if anyone wanted to build this out before signing my childhood fandom to it. Other than that, it seems quite well done.

Over 30 years ago, right before the ending credits rolled, "To Be Continued..." flashed on the screen. It's been over 30 years since my 17 year old self has been waiting for part IV (4). That's too long to wait for the conclusion. This movie was perfect as a trilogy. But since Spielberg plastered the words "To Be Continued..." after part III, he felt the need to make part IV. Fine. But then why wait over 30 fuckin years to make it! 3 years should be long enough to release the final chapter. Main reason is because the movie would be nothing without Michael J. Fox. Since he is only in part IV with cameos and not the main character anymore, Spielberg should have ended it after part III. They did the same with Top Gun. Maverick came out over 30 years after the first one. Granted Tom Cruise still plays Maverick, but 30 years is way too long for a sequel. Top Gun should have been just that one movie.

Leave it be. Funny thing is though, it's crazy how they "thought" 2015 was gonna be in part 2 back in the 80's & how 2015 really was. They were WAY off.

I agree that Tom Holland would actually be a perfect son of Marty McFly, but I really think this is one trilogy which is perfect as it is and should be left alone forever.

I'm all for a new Back to the future but only if marty and doc are in it too , it would be a great tribute to two amazing people and actors who's time on earth is nearly at an end😢😢😢 but in the same breath I could nope just leave it at the trilogy
There was a part IV, it was the Telltale game, and Bob Gale was on board with it. It is for all intents and purposes, the 4th film

Over 30 years ago, right before the ending credits rolled, "To Be Continued..." flashed on the screen. It's been over 30 years since my 17 year old self has been waiting for part IV (4). That's too long to wait for the conclusion. This movie was perfect as a trilogy. But since Spielberg plastered the words "To Be Continued..." after part III, he felt the need to make part IV. Fine. But then why wait over 30 fuckin years to make it! 3 years should be long enough to release the final chapter. Main reason is because the movie would be nothing without Michael J. Fox. Since he is only in part IV with cameos and not the main character anymore, Spielberg should have ended it after part III. They did the same with Top Gun. Maverick came out over 30 years after the first one. Granted Tom Cruise still plays Maverick, but 30 years is way too long for a sequel. Top Gun should have been just that one movie.
I kinda like the idea of this. On one hand, loyd is 86 yrs old and mike fox is really sick. I hate to say this, i truly do, but, this could be their last chance to visit these characters.
On the other hand, they should leave well enough alone. The trilogy was fantastic. Im torn

If a Back to the future 4 comes out I will dedicate the rest of my life to bash and mock Hollywood with all my writing and posting power until I die. Some art has to be left right as it is and not milked like another cash cow.

Leave that trilogy alone! If there is another entrant to the series, it needs to stand apart from the original trilogy.
if a fourth is ever done it should be as a stand alone movie that doesn't really touch the first three, something like Doc's kids playing time bandit and running off with Cleopatra or leaving random things in history to jack with archeologists. but the original story needs to be left alone.
