    4:00 the car in traffic is under NO obligation to let that car out, if they even saw them when they pulled up. There's no evidence that their reverse light were even on when they pulled up. You have to be blind and stupid to back into a car like that.

      We were leaving a packed parking lot after an event and stuck in the traffic line up. The car parked right beside us started backing up slowly. I (in the middle row of our van) told my Dad but there was no gap behind us in line. The person kept backing up and I said "they see us, right?" Nope - they reversed right into the sliding van door. How do you NOT see a vehicle occupying your entire rear window and side mirrors while backing up?!

    4:25 - Yes, other car ran a red after it changed over, but whenever you are in the left turn lane, defensive driving teaches you to always simply wait till the intersection is clear. You continue to have right of way regardless of the other lights turning green due to your status in an uncleared lane, so just wait it out and turn when safe.

    • @PraeaKitten
      @PraeaKitten Год назад +2

      I was coming here to say basically that. I was taught that you don't enter the intersection until you can clear the intersection safely - doesn't matter if you're turning or going straight, don't enter until and unless it's safe to clear

    • @NickLea
      @NickLea Год назад +5

      @@PraeaKittenThe person you replied to didn't say that though. What they said is that once you have entered an intersection in order to turn left then you have the right to complete that turn even after the lights change color.
      The times that you would not enter an intersection are (1) when you are turning left and there is a red left arrow, in this case you need to wait until it turns green, or (2) the exit from the junction is blocked with eg stationary traffic.
      When you wish to turn left on a green light (not arrow), signal and move forward into the junction. Wait in the junction until such time as it is safe and then complete your left turn. (This assumes that your exit is not blocked by stationary traffic - the fact that you have to wait for moving traffic to pass is of no concern)

    6. Alterman in NY @1:49 doesn't even notice the motorcyclist riding without a helmet and Lane Splitting. NY Vehicle and Traffic Law (VTL) 1252 specifically prohibits all forms of lane splitting. Subsection (b), Motorcycles are prohibited from passing cars or other motor vehicles if there is more than one vehicle in the lane. This includes other motorcycles.

    • @rooh5825
      @rooh5825 Год назад +5

      Lane splitting needs to be illegal EVERYWHERE. It's so dangerous, and they all ride way beyond the allowed speed while passing, and do other unscrupulous nonsense like riding to the front of a line of cars at an intersection, then assuming they have "right of way" when the light turns green. Yah, no you don't buddy, so go ahead and get pissed when the gas pedal hits the floor and leaves you standing with the dumb face, you were in the wrong.

    • @drwalker9093
      @drwalker9093 Год назад +1

      Yes, unfortunately many American drivers are too unaware of their surroundings and are not safe around motorcycles filtering through traffic. There is hope, though - states adjacent to California have repeatedly had bills to legalize lane splitting/filtering proposed over the years, and some may eventually succeed. However, it will initially be more dangerous for riders, until American drivers get used to it the way European and Asian drivers are. I doubt that a significant portion of American drivers would be willing to pay as much attention to their driving as most drivers in the rest of the world.
      People's tendency to stereotype motorcycle riders, plus the fear/surprise/jealousy/other emotional responses work against legalizing lane splitting in the USofA.

    • @scottthewaterwarrior
      @scottthewaterwarrior Год назад +1

      The argument I've heard is that it is a safety concern as if a motorcycle at the back of the line gets rear ended, squish! Though it should really only be allowed when traffic is stopped and at a walking speed.

    • @lanaj1107
      @lanaj1107 Год назад +1

      We have legal lane filtering (NOT SPLITTING) here in AZ. There are strict rules and it protects riders from oblivious drivers coming up on their rear and pancaking them. 4 lane road with a 45 mph or lower limit, all cars completely stopped and the bike can only go 15 mph or less.

Turns out, for the last 14 or so years, she didn't know the difference between a green left arrow and a green circle, so she had just been waiting at both of them to see if opposing traffic stayed still or started moving. #8 - 3 car lengths is only 50 feet for that Expedition, and less than 1/2 a second at freeway speeds. If they are approaching you for a pass, then that distance would have been a lot less by the time you actually started to switch lanes. Next time wait for them to pass instead of flipping your signal on and immediately moving over. Chances are that you cut them off pretty badly.

      @Falcon2 Actually, the cammer forgot to "clear the turn" prior to making his turn (i.e. make sure no pedestrian/bicyclist is crossing the road via the sidewalks and that no other vehicle is in the way either). You aren't supposed to start you turn unless it's clear to do so and it wasn't in this case so he should have waited.

This was just an example of bad/non-defensive driving. It’s actually safer to be in the middle of the intersection when waiting to turn left because 1)You can see oncoming traffic better than if you’re at the line. 2) you have a shorter distance to make your turn when there’s a gap in traffic.
