    What is The Atheist Experience?
    The Atheist Experience is a weekly cable access television show in Austin, Texas, geared at an atheist and non-atheist audience. The Atheist Experience is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin (ACA), a nonprofit educational corporation to develop and support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing and friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of state-church separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists and to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.

    Those who look for afterlife probably don't have a good life, that's why God belief is an all time high in the poorest of poor countries.

      “Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it.”

    The Soul Is What Makes Your Awareness Be You, Sure It Can Be Altered With The Brain But No Matter How Much Altering Of The Mind Has Been Done, Your Awareness Will Still Be There.

    Eventually, they're going to be reduced to claiming that the afterlife is metaphorical, and that we must strive to continue to exist in the minds of our families and communities.
    I mean, that's like secular heaven right there.

      Here's an iteresting question. Which part of the belief will be thrown in the metaphorical trash first: The flood myth or jesus' resurrection?

  • @rchuso
    @rchuso 5 лет назад +7

    There is *no field* (force) that the physical mind can generate that would affect the "soul" thing, and vice versa.

    • @rchuso
      @rchuso 5 лет назад

      That is exactly the point! It's not up to me to demonstrate that something that's never been observed doesn't exist. It's the job of those who claim that such a soul thing exists to provide the mechanism for this communication to and from this physical mind. Our current state of physics provides no such mechanism. But if you believe in such a thing, perhaps you can enlighten science?

  • @leexiong2128
    @leexiong2128 5 лет назад +2

    Yep. Agree here. New Age Spiritualists often make this individualistic soul claim too.
    I would agree there is a spirit, or soul, that unifies all beings and things though. Here's two of the biggest barriers people have to understanding religion, and this includes theists and non-theists. First is that we believe we are who we are, as in this thinking being that you have going on endlessly chattering in your head, and the end of your outside skin, separating you, from everything else. The second is that God is a white guy wearing robes.

      May I point out some additional logic that atheists are not considering? If life after death is real, the only way to know is within our own minds. Human beings can focus on both meditation and telepathy simultaneously. Meditation is NOT about achieving complete mental silence within for indefinite periods of time. Meditation is about watching and listening within ONLY. Like a movie or radio. If life after death is real, and if psychic mediums are real, it is discovered with meditation and focusing on telepathy. I personally hear voices within, and I know without any doubt that these voices are not my own thoughts or schizophrenia. They are messages from “another place”. Maybe another dimension of reality? Any real person will not force ideology or beliefs on other people. They will simply share ideas, and share respect and humility socially.

    If we were able to live forever the concept of an "after" life is stupid.
    We'd just live forever wouldn't we?
    Why would we first need to die to live forever?
    Is there an 'after' after life too?

  • @rhondah1587
    @rhondah1587 5 лет назад +13

    A mind cannot exist without a brain and when the brain dies, so does the mind. Nonexistence is almost impossible to imagine but that does not make it untrue as we have all been in a state of nonexistence for billions of years before we were born and we simply return to that state permanently after death.

    • @PainTheBruiser

      So then death is similar to closing my eyes and seeing nothing but blackness, which still means if i can see the darkness or be aware of it that means im still conscious. So what people think as nothing actually is something.

    • @rhondah1587
      @rhondah1587 5 лет назад +2

      Eternal No, it is nothing like closing your eyes and seeing blackness. You won't SEE anything at all because you won't have a working brain that can process anything. You will not have any consciousness at all, you won't feel anything because you will cease to exist.

    • @rhondah1587

      Frances Snowflake Actually we do know that it is a product of the brain and can't exist unless a brain is actually functioning.

      @@rhondah1587 Sorry bud im gonna stick to what ive experienced. Science doesnt know everything, period. They cannot exclude peoples out of body and near death experiences, which is what they do cause they like to think they know everything so they can control your mind. My consciousness is imerterial, and exists outside of my physical brain, meaning the brain is a receiver for consciousness, consciousness is the cosmos, and the cosmos is an infinite void of eternal energy.

    • @rhondah1587
      @rhondah1587 5 лет назад +3

      Eternal Consciousness LOL Stick with your fantasies all you like. NDEs are in fact very explainable and science has been able to explain them quite easily. I will stick with science because it has evidence that has been tested and verified. There is not a shred of evidence that your consciousness is immaterial. If you suffer a brain injury or develop a disease of the brain, your consciousness will be affected, your entire personality can even change. Deny facts all you like but your personal experiences are not verifiable evidence of anything.

    Here's how we know with absolute certainty that the soul doesn't exist vis-a-vis Christian beliefs:
    1. Your purpose for living is to be judged for your beliefs upon death;
    2. Your soul acts as a back-up hard drive to your brain, capturing the events of your entire life for holy judgment upon death;
    3. The non-Catholic, Christian version of the Abrahamic God has a single covenant with man: convert to belief in Jesus while living and you get to go to Heaven upon death; BUT
    4. Alzheimer's or catastrophic brain damage in atheists disallows proposition 3 because the soul in proposition 2 for some odd reason doesn't kick in upon brain damage to allow you to come to Christ before you die.
    That's a irrefutable QED baby! Sorry, Christians.

    I can guarantee 100% that there is an afterlife. Not 99.999999999999%,........but 100% guarantee that the afterlife does exist. I've been a part of a miracle of miracles, proven to me with absolute certainty, I couldn't refuse to believe if I wanted to. Be prepared, an afterlife awaits us all.

      "I can guarantee..." is just words, and they're based on your belief. I don't care about what you believe, I want facts. There's no way you can prove there's an afterlife. So far for guarantees.
      About assertions: I can guarantee that there's a china teapot orbiting the sun between earth and mars. Until I can show you this teapot you have no reason to believe me either. (The teapot is Bertrand Russell's argument)

      Heres a simple analogy...
      An animals knowledge is only limited to its active survival instincts..
      It dosent look to the sky and say oh I suppose that's a star..cuz it dosent know a thing about life outside its territory..
      But on the other hand humans have developed smart enough brains to get civilized and learn more about life around them..
      Similarly there a lot of animals in the human society who are always bound by the lower thought processes like greed doubt jealousy anger pride self-centered ignorant and worst of all having a stubborn mind...
      In other words they don't open up their minds to anything new other than that which they already know or believe in...
      But nature has a very strange and unique way of teaching these people what they were supposed learn in their lifetime...
      That is why I said they will learn in time ...

Being open minded means being open to new information especially when it contradicts what you previously believed. Do you have any evidence for a God or just analogies for how animals are less intelligent than humans.
