One thing that’ll help with chicken is cut it into filets that are similar thickness. It’ll cook evenly so you don’t have over cooked sides and a undercooked center 👍🏻
By making evenly thin slices of the chicken meat... it will cook faster and evenly. If you start it on a little higher heat... you can sear, (brown or crisp) the outside and then turn the heat back down to normal cooking heat to finish it off. (Personally, I prefer thighs. It's not as dry as breasts.) Yes, seasoning your meat even before you put it into the pan or on the grill to cook it. Like with a marinade... it gives the flavors of the spices and other ingredients to soak into the meat, or even vegetables, even before you put it on to cook. You don't want to cook without your spices and/or lubricants are properly added. It's much more flavorful than just bland or even bad tasting cooking without using spices and flavors added in before cooking.
@uptone12111 Even the flat end of the mallet damages the plastic baggie. It leaks in both directions... in and out. The food should be put into a new baggie after hammering it. The ABSOLUTELY IMPORTANT concept most people seem to miss is... As you seal the zip lock... carefully squeeze as much air out of the baggie just before completely sealing the zip lock. Not removing that air, and then repeating each time it's opened, is the same as NOT even putting the food in the baggie. The food is essentially not getting the benefits of being sealed properly in the baggie. So, the food naturally dries out and turns bad so much faster than it would if properly sealing the bag each time.
NO WAY! I need at least a tent. I like my camper - hard sides and a door that locks. That's just me. You're a brave soul. And adventuresome. Great video.
I've solo camped with a survival shelter exactly one time, and a giant desert centipede (around 8 inches long, over an inch thick) tried crawling past my face into my sleeping bag. I did not sleep well the night before because I was close to a creek where all the animals came down to drink at night, and I was terrified that something large would pay me a visit on the way. So, while I admire survivalists and technically know how to survive the elements with some rope and a tarp, I need a tent at a minimum to avoid giant crunchy bugs.
Damn, my favorite nomads are delivering this week on the bloopers. Sorry about the chicken - but I died. 😂 I like that you made use of the natural shelter, natural shelter camping is definitely a rabbit hole worth going down on RUclips. You should give your hammock and bug net a proper try out for a night! Thanks for sharing - safe travels!
Could’ve helped you Maria with your chicken I am but I’m watching this 6 months later. new to the channel and totally enjoying it. Both you and blue are a delight to watch. Thank you
hi! I always cut that size chicken breast in half, sliced lengthwise OR cut crosswise into 1/4 inch (about) slices, then cook. Cooks a lot faster that way. season it WHILE it cooks. Usually cooks on EACH side for 5-7 minutes. Hope this helps.
So glad to see you haven't lost your touch when you're out of touch with the world! What a great way to fix dinner for Blue, I'm sure he loves chicken chunks.
Just a quick note for the chicken Cut the breast in half and grab some Italian dressing and let it marinate in the fridge overnight… enjoy… PS driving my jeep gladiator to a camp site & just chilling ✌🏼
When cooking chicken, yes, season it while cooking. It would help it to cook if you had a lid or make a foil lid. You can also tell if your chicken is if you have a food thermometer. Cook until it reads 180 for chicken. I love my thermometer. Good luck and sorry about your Oops with your chicken. ❤
A basic food thermometer is the answer to all of your culinary mysteries. Cook to temperature and not to time, and your food will always turn out awesome :) That campsite looks heavenly!
Gravity was not your friend while you were cutting up your chicken so close to the shelf edge. I'm proud of you for sleeping with the cockroaches. 🦗 You and Blue are real survivalists now! 💙👍
Blue's expressions are priceless! I think that chicken wasn't dead yet because it kept jumpin' off the plate. Once I was hauling horses by myself from So Cal to the north. It was late and I was tired so I parked the rig to the side of the road, crawled under and laid down between the front two wheels with my Queensland Healer dog and slept until daylight. I was worried someone would see me sleeping in the cab and try something. Oh did I mention I was armed with protection and my dog, Paddywack, on high alert. Peaceful night and a happy ending. I never saw any bugs that time.
What about the bears? And mtn lions. I scrape mine out boil a little water in them. Spray them with vinegar/water mixture wipe it clean. Rinse with water. Natural antiseptic. Always cook chicken well. No pink anywhere
You are so wonderfully crazy...I love that. I could watch you for hours in your experiments, successes and small mishaps...stay as you are that makes you very likeable because you have a great charisma... I look forward to more videos with you and Blue...
I’m from WA. Looks familiar with all of that smoke in the air. Can’t escape the haze anymore. I leave the city and the smog behind to spend a few days at my cabin on my property, and there’s smoke everywhere.
This is my favorite blue video when he gets caught in the bug net and you look in trying to help him and he came out behind you and you didn't relize he's like what is she doing funny
Another new video from my favorite you tube duo, heck yeah!! This Sunday just got a whole lot better This looks so interesting, terrific idea to do this! Is it my imagination or is Blue even cuter in this video
Your videos are great! I love the outdoors hiking, trailing, biking, swimming, kayaking everything but what you do is extreme and amazing! Thanks for the escapism
😮 silly girl slice up that big ole piece if that chicken n yea spice it up.dont think just do may be more natural for you.. lol😂 great sleeping spot. But nooo on bugs..why not build alittle camp fire chicken on stick or little grill yummm. And save you the mess.😊😊
season the chicken before you put it in the pan.also cut it long ways in half. it will cook faster and you will be less likely for it to be raw. also, also, a little butter will go a lot way with color and flavor. :)
First. .Blue is not judging you. He is watching out for your safety, and occasionally laughing on the inside. It is great watching you enjoy each other!
Fun video! You bring a lot smiles and laughs with your videos. The chicken falling and your facial expression and Blue sleeping outside and being like Mom what’s going on. You never cease to bring great content in your videos. Much appreciated and enjoyed! Those cockroaches or beatle type bug…yuck but you made it thru the night. Great job and video!
This girl is the craziest but bravest girl ever! sleeping alone in the woods like its nothing! Also the part where Blue got tangled in the net and came out on the other side while she was looking for him was like a cartoon lmaooo
I'm getting ready to start my new chapter in life in Washington and I am amped. I was homeless in my car and some crazy way I found myself...I have gone hungry...lost my cat (who trooped it with me in my car for over a year and always came back in the morning wherever I was parked...but never returned one morning)...I lost my car broke my foot and still walked to work and now I have almost 20,000 to reinvent my destination. I admire you for staying strong and true and positive and enjoying this wonderful experience on earth.
I'd recommend slicing the chicken into a thinner piece (two thin slices). With that stove, it would be easier and quicker to cook a thin slice. And an electronic meat thermometer can help you know when it's done.
Okay seriously your theme song is awesome! I would download it right now if I could! Also - impressed by your stick-to-itness of staying in that “shelter” - I am thinking I would have bailed!
Get a meat thermometer, it goes down into the middle so you can tell if it’s really done in the middle. If I’m in a hurry I just cut it up into small pieces (like a stir fry) so it cooks quickly and evenly. Fun episode .
I have spent many nights in survival shelters, as a former Boy Scout, and a current Scout Leader. I teach wilderness survival merit badge. As a suggestion, I recommend that you buy the merit badge pamphlet, it's only about 3.50, and full of information.
I some x cut the chicken and pound it into fritters w the tenderizer. Then you can fry as is, or dip in egg and dredge in flour. Fry. Yummm. Season Cut into small strips and sautee w veggies, season w soy sauce...stir fry
I’m rewatching this back so forgive me with the lateness of how to cook chicken 😄 I always defrost for a while, then when it’s soft i cut into 4 thinner slices. You can just put them back on top of each other when it’s done. That way the chicken cooks the inside faster. Cook for about 40 minutes turning it over regularly. Try it on a toasted whole meal bun with lettuce, grated cheese, flavoured sauce and garlic pepper. It’s amazing trust me. Love your channel by the way 😊👍
Oh my gosh, that chicken plate dance was priceless, I flat out died! Best belly laugh I have had in a long long time. The way you looked, holy cow gal! Lucky Blue.
not just fillet but like cut up the chicken into bite size pieces & sautee them with a high heat oil like avo oil which is a lot better. you can add a bag of frozen veg, packed udon noodles. OR toss in some day old, refrigerated/leftover rice with peas, carrots, garlic or whatever you want and make a quick fried rice!
I think they may have been waterbugs...tell you right now...that would have been IT for me lol...big beetles, cockroaches...bugs in general...nope, I just CAN'T!!! You've gotten braver given that you stayed out there and how you used to totally freak out if they were in your car.
It would help if you braised or boil it in water first, I make this Filipino dish called chicken adobo it’s pretty simple just cut chicken into 1-2” squares add 1/4cup vinegar 3/4 cup soy sauce 1 cup of water handful of bay leaves & black whole peppercorn boil for 20-30mins then simmer for 10-15mins then serve over rice 🤤
I was just thinking before you brought out the bug net and mouse repellent about sod houses in Oklahoma. They would put cloths up hanging from the sod ceiling to keep mice, snakes, insects, dirt from dropping down on them. Ughh!
Hi Maria, Love your channel. Always have a cheerful feeling watching your channel except for today. When that chicken fell to the floor, my heart sank with it. Your expression was priceless. If your up to cooking it again, a chicken breast that size is cooked for about 20 minutes. If it's pink on the inside, more time on the heat. Be well.
I did that same thing 2 nights in a row when I was a teenager eating dinner. My family still laughs about it. I now try to be very aware of how close to the edge of the table my plate is before cutting meat, lol.
I’ve lived in WA my entire life, and I’ve never had it rain mice. I have, however, had pinecones and other tree items fall on my tent at night. Squirrels and chipmunks love making you think it’s raining mice. 😃
I cover my pan when cooking chicken to make it cook faster! Also I buy tenderloins cause I hate touching raw meat more than anything but want smaller pieces so it’ll cook faster 😅
Amazon- Kizen meat thermometer 25 bucks, it has the temps for meats on the thermometer. Slice chicken into strips first, cooks faster. love your channel.
Great show ! you nailed it! I laughed so hard my head hurts! Talking about winging it. When Blue was wrapped in the netting and the look on your face when the chicken flipped. to funny! You are a hoot! So glad though that you are save after this episode!
I do like survival bug out wood shelters. there have been a few movies about that and it is so cool you found one that a previous camper made and you Glamped it up. i love it !
Love your comments and content! Also like when you say..Ok......Then have that grin. I lived in Southfield MI in 70's as a kid. I like the dry sense of humor that I also share. Keep up great videos for us and stay cool. I know you hate the heat. Fall is coming.....woohoo..I live in Vegas. I want it as well.
If you are headed back South from WA, I suggest camping at Vista Park in Skamokawa, WA. It’s right on the Columbia. Beautiful area, fairly cheap, and watching the ship traffic from your campsite is a plus.
8:33 I saw this happening from a mile away. LOL. When you put pressure on something not supported, well..... Sorry about the chicken. Someone else was happy tho.. big grin on Blue's face.
Buy one of these small meat thermometers, and online you can find a quick guide to what temperature is required to make chicken or beef or other meats safe... for instance the USDA says that chicken breasts need to be cooked until the middle of the piece of meet is up to 165 degrees F to kill all salmonella etc... so you just put in the pan and then stick the meat probe into the middle of the meat and when it gets up to 165 or more, it is safe to eat!!! I usually go a few degrees higher so that if some other area in the meat might be a couple degrees cooler than where I checked it😊 You really should do this for your health💖😊 Don't want ... I love watching your videos, but you should never sleep in any old used dilapidated "survival shelter" like the one you came across!
Invest in a meat pounder and pound the breast to a thinner even thickness. Cooks faster and evenly. If you have time and supplies, put a quarter cup of salt in about four cups of water and dissolve salt. Put brine solution in bowl or big bag and add chicken and let sit in fridge for at least an hour. Rinse, pat dry and season before cooking. Really helps with having moist chicken.
This is cowboy john I cook alot in my Toyota camery. In the parking lot at work. And so on so it has to be quick and easy. First thing. Slice it. Across. Or dice it. Lawres.parsly garlic salt. The thinner the meat the faster it cooks. Save gas. Dice chicken great on top of salad. With melon scoops of avocado 🥑. Buy a melon scooper.grayded cheese 🧀 😋. Greeks stake house dressing. You will be in complete. Happy happy Joy Joy. Time
One thing that’ll help with chicken is cut it into filets that are similar thickness. It’ll cook evenly so you don’t have over cooked sides and a undercooked center 👍🏻
zip lock bag-flat end of a meat mallet. perfect for camping too-nice flat chicken breast

or cut it up into small pieces and basically stir fry it. Also, yes season all your meats, poultry, etc BEFORE cooking. Please. 😆 ✌️
Maria: lays camp light away from bed to distract bugs.
Also Maria: sets up ambient string lighting around bed.
I thought the same thing lol
But... that's just reflective balance... ha ha ha...
NO WAY! I need at least a tent. I like my camper - hard sides and a door that locks. That's just me. You're a brave soul. And adventuresome. Great video.
Your doggy loves you to the max.
Such a lovable boy.
Whenever he leans into you is very sweet.
Watching your videos is like me camping with you from the comfort of my air conditioned, wifi, bug free home. Thank you it is fun for me .

Add a little water to pan and a lid or foil to steam chicken first then fry up, this will guaranteed its is thoroughly cooked. Love your channel!
Maria, that shelter was rad & I love camping, but cockroach type bugs would have me in the Defender asap! Perseverance👍🏻
A basic food thermometer is the answer to all of your culinary mysteries. Cook to temperature and not to time, and your food will always turn out awesome :) That campsite looks heavenly!

What better place to read The power of positive thinking than from a survival shelter. Gotta love it.😀
Let's Gooooo Maria. Watching while walking my dogs.

Maria, buy a cooking thermometer. Beef and pork cook to 145 f. Chicken 165. You and Blue are great to watch. Safe travels. Bob
A collab with “camping with Steve” would be amazingggggg
Yeeees I love him so much, he could teach her so much about stealthy stuff. I think she should get with same bananas too he's pretty good.

You’re wearing an Aslan B’ham sweatshirt in this episode! Awesome. Best hometown ever! 😃
That was fun! You overcame and adapted! The chicken was a tragedy. Great job ❤
The moment Blue got in the skeeter net, and then escaped, was the BEST!

Ive done that with a bug net ground camping. Didn't work very well. Also. If you're in Seattle my cousin owns Greenwood hard cider mill. Good stuff.
My Aussie would have been in the creek and muddy all night while waking me every 10 minutes. I just love them.

There's that Led Zeppelin shirt again. Love it. I was listening to them long before you were born. Glad folks your age listen. 🙂
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 girl you absolutely cracked me tf UP with this video from the knocked over chicken special to the bug spray shower 😂 thank you
Love that Jetboil! I've never used one but it looks really handy.
Try cooking all those together after browning your chicken, pour your dressing and add your veggies with seasonings ❤❤❤
I lost it when the chicken took the nose dive!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I’ve lived in WA my entire life, and I’ve never had it rain mice. I have, however, had pinecones and other tree items fall on my tent at night. Squirrels and chipmunks love making you think it’s raining mice. 😃
Cut your chicken into smaller pieces before cooking. I think it was a squirrel that jumped on your Rover.
Good book.
Use a lid to keep the heat in, for a piece of chicken that large or cut into smaller pieces.
Hey, I'm in WA on the west side😊 please be careful if you are on the east side as there are areas being evacuated due to fires, up by Spokane
You are so brave❤
That was great! Maria, you're the funniest when you don't try so hard to be funny.
I cover my pan when cooking chicken to make it cook faster! Also I buy tenderloins cause I hate touching raw meat more than anything but want smaller pieces so it’ll cook faster 😅
Your making it fantastic 11:13 🎉🎉🎉
Amazon- Kizen meat thermometer 25 bucks, it has the temps for meats on the thermometer. Slice chicken into strips first, cooks faster. love your channel.
Cover it in Italian bread crumbs...fry in oil..easy tastes great
Slice it length wise. You can pound it to thin it. Use meat thermometer
This was a rollercoaster. Glad you survived.
I like “easily happy” . Well said Ria!
Totally enjoyed this one. You did the damn thing, you’re right, such an epic spot to wake up to. Outro 👌
Nice shelter in the woods. Must be very enjoyable. You are very adventurous dear

Put brine solution in bowl or big bag and add chicken and let sit in fridge for at least an hour. Rinse, pat dry and season before cooking. Really helps with having moist chicken.
