HELL YEAH! I'm actually looking at buying 1 of these Scorpion DC's going to be my first DC reel AND Shimano reel since the majority of my reels are Daiwa
Hi, the SP mode on the Exsence DC is just a mode with no "wine" sound and no DC brake it's just the mode that you can cast with no DC and the BB is for Big Bait and F is for fluorocarbon and PE is the name of the braid in japan so PE is for braided line . have a good day
SP mode still has DC brake, you can hear the whine for a split second right when the spool stops. The DC whine was purposely programmed into most DC brakes. Also I think I explained all that in the video about the settings and line.
ohhh ... my bad ... on my exsence dc the SP mode didn't wine at all . and I get backlash at all cast with this mode . so I think i'm gonna send it to shimano japan and see what they can do . thank you for your answer and have a good day ( I'm french so please understand my bad english but your video are awesome man continue like that )
I picked up a 17 Scorpion DC recently too. Great reel for the money. Easy to setup and start casting. Not an extreme distance caster but good enough for all purpose fishing. Great videos, keep it up.
Man you do the best shit, just flat out. No one weighs spools like I wish they would, only you. Your videos kept me from wasting $200 on a Tatula SV because of how overbraked they are, I am going with the Zillion SV or Chronarch MGL. I would like to see tackletour redo the Zillion vs Chronarch shootout, but this time it would be the Zillion SV vs the Chronarch MGL. I might have to send you one of my Zillion SV's if they don't hurry. I wanted to try a Shimano, but a few bad reports keep scaring me away from the Chronarch MGL.
To me, tackletour guys favorite Shimano reels a little bit against others. They gave a 10 score on the performance of Chronarch MGL. Not that it's bad reel, it's just recently I got a good deal on that reel and pulled the trigger, now I've had it for a few weeks, I think a perfect 10 score is a bit overrated.
I've noticed that. I really like your videos and agree with that for the most part, I don't see anything $300 or less comparing to the Zillion SV though. I was seconds away from ordering the Chronarch MGL though and still might, I just keep hearing the weirdest issues.
you sound bias with the zillion. As i said if you are hardcore diawa and used to how it fishes, you wont like the shimano. I have had 0 problems with the MGL, though i have owned and fished a lot of shimano, lews, abu, quantum and a CT and CT R. I am used to the feel of shimano. I didn't like the curado 70 personally to small but I haven't experienced any weird issues whatever they may be with the Chon MGL. Far as perfect 10, there is no perfect 10 any reel.
Pretty good, I think your theory on the black reels mag spool is somewhat confusing. If a spool has MORE mass it is relatively slow to start rotation. The lightened spools should in theory start up quicker ( less mass) and throw lighter baits more readily. I’m 65 year old lifetime angler. Hopefully I’ll get out as soon as the weather gets better on the east coast. I’m hopelessly addicted to freshwater fishing. And I DO have my surf and inshore gear as well. ARTIFICIALS ONLY.
id like to see this vs the tatula sv. I think im downsizing and upgrading from lews, ab revos, 13s, ardent to shimano or daiwa or combo of both. first upgrade was shimano bantom mgl xg. also picked up a new quantum tour mg for $130 but probably sell. finally someone who does quality reviews. not some kid who just got a new reel for Christmas.
I know I am a bit late in the game, but have you tried out the "DIY spool" for original Tatula or Tatula CT? They're selling it for $35 on Aliexpress, and after trying one I have to say I'm quite impressed by the quality and performance. A shoot out between these DIY spools and SV spools would be great!
DIY spool will probably kill it for distance and light lure ability. I think they have smaller inductors. The Tatula SV in my opinion is a control reel for people that don't wanna worry about backlash (if not trying to bomb for distance and reducing brakes), which I think is a mistake because as THE REEL TEST has mentioned, hell just turn the brakes up on any other reel, its like people forget you can do that...
Haven't tried any SV reels yet, but I agree that once you turn the brake up and don't care about distance any more, backlash is not an issue for most decent reels. I guess Daiwa people are trying to find a balance point between distance and control with the SV spool. The DIY spool I have is actually trying to imitate SV spool design, especially with the inductor, but it's definitely much lighter. So I am debating if it's worthy to get a SV reel, because distance surly matters to me, and I'd like to know once you loose the brakes on SV reels, how far can they go compared to DIY spool? I guess only a shootout can answer that.
Great review! Thank you! It is nice to see you have Calais DC and Exsence DC (old gen). How would you rate these reels vs Metanium MGL for long distance casting?
I have one on pre order so Im going to make a nice detailed review on it as soon as I get it :) they say its smaller, got the new brakes, and micro gears.. cant wait to get it!
What is ideal setting for the spool control on the Scorpion DC? Should i just adjust it till the side to side of the spool is eliminated? or should i make it looser like Daiwa TW SV?
:) I did indeed enjoy it! Landed a fantastic meter-barra on it, and it was amazing! I asked the question as I heard somewhere that you are supposed to oil after every 5 uses and rinses (I use it in brackish conditions too). Do let me know if you do a reel service vid. Keep up the fantastic vid - really enjoy your channel.
you may have gotten the insert about the older SVS infinity brakes where there was a mistranslation. Basically if the brakes made a strange noise during the cast then you put a drop of oil on the brake pipe. Since this is a DC you dont worry about any of that
i think the best way i can explain it is that the more expensive DC reels have more adjustments for fine tuning. The Curado DC will have 4 adjustments. The most expensive Antares DC has 32 adjustments. The Metanium DC has 15 adjustments, etc..
THE REEL TEST thanks for the fast reply. Im wanting to get into baitcasters and a dc reel looks like the best way to go. In your opinion which would be a nice one to get my limits 400.
Scorpion DC easy... cast just as good as Metanium DC but only about $250. Of if you want lighter weight the Metanium DC. I have a video here that shows you how to use the DC brakes ruclips.net/video/D_po8DOaVRo/видео.html
I’m not buying anything from them anymore. I just bought a fucken used Scorpion DC for $275 and the chip cover got scratches all over it. The DC looks like it’s been used even the spool got scratches! Fuck you Digitaka!
I can only tell you that the Scorpion has more adjust-ability. And if what Ive been told is correct, its got a lighter spool. And its a 100 size Shimano spool so it should have plenty of capacity for 20lb flouro
THE REEL TEST I know it’s hard to choose but I would greatly appreciate ur opinion. Should I buy the curado k for $126 or the scorpion dc for $247? Thx again for all the help!
not sure, i know the first DC chips stopped working when they got wet but started working after they dried. I think the new DC units are sealed alot better
yeah they are very reliable. 1rods DC reel is over 10 years old and still works. just dont submerge them underwater or it may not work until it dries out. look at japanlureshop or digitaka
THE REEL TEST its on eBay and its selling new but opened box but the bidding is low and only has a few days the user name is "racing9" and the title is "New in opened box, shimano Calais 201 DC baitcast reel" it looks legit but I feel like there would be much higher bidding because it's the only one available
Do you know if the sound DC reels make when u cast be gone if you change the bearings to boca ceramic orange seal bearings? Specifically I want to change for the bearings for an exsence DC 13' I can see one in the background of this vid as well, but there is nothing wrong with them I just want that if i can cast farther with my reel then why not, but if it does affect the sound I'm not changing it because I love it.
The braking system makes the sound, not the bearings. If you install loud ceramic bearings it may drown out the sound a little bit. Im not sure if bearings will help a DC reel cast that much farther. It may only let the spool get up to maximum RPM a fraction sooner before the brakes kick in
Cool im thinking about ordering a shimano metanium dc and i am looking for a trustworhty site so thank you and keep up the great vids they have helped me picked out reels
THE REEL TEST ya i saw the japan lureshop but i wasn't sure if it was legit and they would actually get the reel to me.have you ordered anything from there?
Actually the scorpion is made in Taiwan not made in Japan. Does a product have to be "made" in japan for it to be jdm? Or just designed for that Japanese markets??
Hey man, huge fan and really grateful of what all your doing. I bought the Scorpion DC 16 and paired it was a shimano Expride 6'10 medium for my jerkbaits. I'm not sure what's going on with my scorpion but it's casting kinda sucks right now with a 1/2oz Vision 110 mega bass jerkbait. Any ideas of what might be happening? I have 12 lb mono on it, the spool tension is set to where there is barely/none side to side movement in the spool. Inside break set on mono, and outside dial set on 2. Thanks for your advice/help in advance!!
THE REEL TEST I just did... I am new to fishing and started with the Curado K. Never having a Baitcaster in my hand before, it was a steep learning curve and lots of lost training baits getting early backlashes and ripped lines. HELL YEAH! I'm actually looking at buying 1 of these Scorpion DC's going to be my first DC reel AND Shimano reel since the majority of my reels are Daiwa
Its bad to the bone.. watch out for a new video on it in a couple of days
As mentioned previously, a video of how to service this reel or info on where to send it would be awesome.
Just got me a Scorpion DC. You convinced me. Traded my Steez for it.
Hi, the SP mode on the Exsence DC is just a mode with no "wine" sound and no DC brake it's just the mode that you can cast with no DC and the BB is for Big Bait and F is for fluorocarbon and PE is the name of the braid in japan so PE is for braided line .

thank you for your answer and have a good day ( I'm french so please understand my bad english but your video are awesome man continue like that )
I just got one but I can’t get the side door to open
I picked up a 17 Scorpion DC recently too. Great reel for the money. Easy to setup and start casting. Not an extreme distance caster but good enough for all purpose fishing. Great videos, keep it up.
casts better than you realize, post a video soon lol
I sure hope so! I've only taken it on one trip with probably about 20 or so casts only. I'd be very interested to see your numbers.
PE mode gives the best distance ive found.
Good to know. Have not tried the other modes yet. Only Fluoro.
Flouro mode is great for skipping.. video on that soon :)
Man you do the best shit, just flat out. No one weighs spools like I wish they would, only you. To be honest, for the longest time tackle tour writers favored Daiwas. Shimanos rarely won shootouts until recently.
I've noticed that. I really like your videos and agree with that for the most part, I don't see anything $300 or less comparing to the Zillion SV though. I was seconds away from ordering the Chronarch MGL though and still might, I just keep hearing the weirdest issues.
Over braked? Which video are you talking about because I was planning on pulling the trigger on that reel.
you sound bias with the zillion. As i said if you are hardcore diawa and used to how it fishes, you wont like the shimano. I have had 0 problems with the MGL, though i have owned and fished a lot of shimano, lews, abu, quantum and a CT and CT R. I am used to the feel of shimano. Hi sir one question, planning for using more than 30 grams, is this reel capable on that, I mean throw beyond the maximum capable of the reel
id like to see this vs the tatula sv.
Have you thought of doing a DC Shoutout? I have a Calcutta DC 200 I can send you for testing. I'd love to see how the OG holds up to the newer ones.
Im doing a shootout but of the newer current reels.
You should do a shootout between the Antares dc 16 and the Calais
What r the little strips of plastic for?
I know I am a bit late in the game, but have you tried out the "DIY spool" for original Tatula or Tatula CT? They're selling it for $35 on Aliexpress, and after trying one I have to say I'm quite impressed by the quality and performance. A shoot out between these DIY spools and SV spools would be great!
Thats a great possibility this winter when I generally put the bass gear away and pull out the bait finesse gear for trout.

Too cool!
xiaoyangzhang Ilo
Does your scorpion dc have an imprint Malaysia on it? Thought it was Japan
Hi! Will the bantam cast further than the scorpion dc with braid? Thank you
Great review! Thank you! It is nice to see you have Calais DC and Exsence DC (old gen). How would you rate these reels vs Metanium MGL for long distance casting?
I dont know but we may find out soon, I have a special video coming for my 100 sub celebration :)
I was wondering about testin the Fishin Gear
Can u use this reel in saltwater i hope cause i bought it for
What are your thoughts right now on the curado k , and what's it going to be like.
I have one on pre order so Im going to make a nice detailed review on it as soon as I get it :) they say its smaller, got the new brakes, and micro gears.. cant wait to get it!
THE REEL TEST Haha it’s funny reading these old comments... the K is a great reel
I am trying to decide whether to purchase a steez, metanium, or antares. Do you recommend one over the others? I am dying...
which reel u like better that scorpion dc or the metanium ?
I am thinking of getting the exsence
I wach this video many times, but I am still not sure how to use N mode clearly. Do you have any videos showing how to use or cast with this?
N mode is for monofilament lines, it has less braking than the F(flourocarbon) mode, so you should be able to cast a little farther.
What is ideal setting for the spool control on the Scorpion DC? Should i just adjust it till the side to side of the spool is eliminated? or should i make it looser like Daiwa TW SV?
You can run it loose. Id say till side to side play is removed, but play around with it until you find what you like.
That would be interesting vs antares dc 2016..
I have that shimano Calcutta conquest dc 😎 flawless still
Really great video. Went out and got myself a Scorpion DC. ANy pointers on how to oil the reel? Instructions being in Japanese does not help :(
No need to oil anything. Just take it out fishing and enjoy :)
:) I did indeed enjoy it! Landed a fantastic meter-barra on it, and it was amazing! I asked the question as I heard somewhere that you are supposed to oil after every 5 uses and rinses (I use it in brackish conditions too). Do let me know if you do a reel service vid. you may have gotten the insert about the older SVS infinity brakes where there was a mistranslation. Basically if the brakes made a strange noise during the cast then you put a drop of oil on the brake pipe. Since this is a DC you dont worry about any of that
Whoever told you should oil your reel every 5 uses is an idiot lol
Does the Mgl spool work with the DC? Swap wise, is it worth it?
No it does not works.
Scorpion 14 or curado k? That’s what I’m asking myself
Do all of the dc reels have the same chip or do the more expensive ones have a better dc chip?
i think the best way i can explain it is that the more expensive DC reels have more adjustments for fine tuning.
THE REEL TEST Thank you! I really appreciate your timely reply. I was really looking at the scorpion too.
So I'm looking on Digitaka.com and I'm seeing they have a citica listed, is that the same reel as the one in the US or is this a JDM citica
How much
I’m not buying anything from them anymore. I just bought a fucken used Scorpion DC for $275 and the chip cover got scratches all over it. The DC looks like it’s been used even the spool got scratches! Fuck you Digitaka!
Any fishing line recommendations specifically for the scorpion DC reel?
it can handle any line, so pick your preference
THE REEL TEST have you notice any performance differences or ease of use line type to line type ?
ive only used flouro and mono but as far as the line modes PE seems to cast the farthest no matter what line you use
THE REEL TEST thank just bought a scorpion don't know what to do with it I just kind of want to stare at it thus far lol appreciate the videos
Should I buy this or wait for curado dc? Also, is the spool big enough for 20 pound fluoro?? Thx!
I can only tell you that the Scorpion has more adjust-ability. And if what Ive been told is correct, its got a lighter spool. And its a 100 size Shimano spool so it should have plenty of capacity for 20lb flouro
THE REEL TEST thx for the quick reply!
THE REEL TEST I know it’s hard to choose but I would greatly appreciate ur opinion. Should I buy the curado k for $126 or the scorpion dc for $247? Thx again for all the help!
BucketMouthBass so what did you buy ? Any feedback ? Thanks
Will this chip stop working if you get the reel wet in the rain or fully submerge it?
not sure, i know the first DC chips stopped working when they got wet but started working after they dried. I think the new DC units are sealed alot better
Ok thank you
What setting would you use for braid
PE mode is for braid
SHIMANO 17 SCORPION 100DC VS 13 Metanium? what cast the longest?
Chega Ck It’s common sense dude.
?Is this close to the scorpion 19 dc
Warren louisiana I don’t believe there’s a 19 DC. The 19 Scorpion is an MGL
I have this reel and love the casting performance but its absence of xship makes it not handle fish well at all
I does have X ship and mine is smooth and has power to spare
THE REEL TEST my scorpion is very smooth but lacks the power to pull the fish in. Maybe mine is defected but my Curado I handles very well
Would you be willing to sell your Calais dc??
Does the DC breaking system hold up well over time? Also what's the best place to buy them?
yeah they are very reliable. 1rods DC reel is over 10 years old and still works. just dont submerge them underwater or it may not work until it dries out. look at japanlureshop or digitaka
THE REEL TEST ok thanks, I'm really considering buying the scorpion 100dc always been wanting to try a DC reel out
Does that callais make that nice humming sound like the other ones? Lol
yeah it has the DC "whine"
THE REEL TEST is there anyway I can send you a picture or no because I found one online and I don't wanna buy a knock off?
just tell me what website you are looking at and Ill go see.
THE REEL TEST its on eBay and its selling new but opened box but the bidding is low and only has a few days the user name is "racing9" and the title is "New in opened box, shimano Calais 201 DC baitcast reel" it looks legit but I feel like there would be much higher bidding because it's the only one available
I looked, and yeah thats a Calais DC
Just sent in my exsence dc to get tuned
Good job
How much line does it hold?
I have no clue lol
This model is Japan or Malaysia made?
Malaysia, all current curado and scorpions are made in Malaysia
Hi gang!!! Where do I get this real from?
Japan Tackle, Ichiban Tackle, Ebay
The Japanese sure love their gadgets. You know some guy has DC reels on all his rods.
The Japanese love high end tackle for sure! I know the high dollar stuff has a cheaper street price in Japan too.

Alright thanks a lot, cleared up the question because I was wondering if it would, hows the exsence holding up for u and for how long have u used it?
Ive had it a few years but I rarely use it, its only because I have so many reels that I cant use them all lol
So where can I get me one of these?
japanlureshop is a good place
So the reel test you would say japan lure shop is a trusty place to buy from?
yes very trustworthy, In fact Ive just received a package from them today :)
Cool im thinking about ordering a shimano metanium dc and i am looking for a trustworhty site so thank you and keep up the great vids they have helped me picked out reels
where do you buy them from
google "japanlureshop" "digitaka"
THE REEL TEST ya i saw the japan lureshop but i wasn't sure if it was legit and they would actually get the reel to me.have you ordered anything from there?
Ive ordered multiple reels, a few rods, and alot of lures from japanlureshop, they are legit as they come, order with confidence :)
THE REEL TEST alright thank you has this reel preformed good so far?
Actually the scorpion is made in Taiwan not made in Japan. Does a product have to be "made" in japan for it to be jdm? Or just designed for that Japanese markets??
Just letting everyone know, digitaka sold me a used Scorpion DC 2017 for $275.
Bro, a new one is just 287 lmao 😂
Hey man, huge fan and really grateful of what all your doing. I bought the Scorpion DC 16 and paired it was a shimano Expride 6'10 medium for my jerkbaits. I'm not sure what's going on with my scorpion but it's casting kinda sucks right now with a 1/2oz Vision 110 mega bass jerkbait. Any ideas of what might be happening? I have 12 lb mono on it, the spool tension is set to where there is barely/none side to side movement in the spool. Inside break set on mono, and outside dial set on 2. Thanks for your advice/help in advance!!
Ive found that the PE setting casts the farthest, try to use that mode.
THE REEL TEST thanks man, means a lot to me that you responded so quickly! Thanks!!
you caught me editing a video lol.. hope that solves the issue
Would the dc reel getting in the water mess with the breaking system?
I heard if it gets wet it may not work but will work again once it dries
You have a great voice for ASMR.
Plz respond cuz eBay is 15% off rn😂😂
So a computer chip that has no batteries for power? thats legit next level shit!
Not sure if I like your site. It's going to get bloody expensive for me lol
No beginner would buy a DC7 scorpion because its a 300$ reel
a rich beginner would
THE REEL TEST I just did... I am new to fishing and started with the Curado K.
Never having a Baitcaster in my hand before, it was a steep learning curve and lots of lost training baits getting early backlashes and ripped lines.
I tried out a Curado DC a few weeks later and it was a revelation. No backlashes, except when i didn't thumb the landing and distance like i've never managed without DC assistance.
I will still use the Curado K when i get more confident with my casting technique but the DC made Baitcaster fishing fun for me.
The DC reels are perfect for beginners in my opinion, because i can have fun learning fishing without too much stress from the reel.
Me! I'm new to baitcaster and have been watching crazy things about this reel and I'm about to order one 😁
This guy swallowing super hard every 10 seconds makes listening to this unbearable, sick reels tho
David Pudlik I was honestly thinking the same thing 😂😂
please stop smacking your lips, this is extremely annoying with headphones!
Isaac Backer now I can’t hear anything else 😂
Isaac Backer bro I’m dying it’s like the sound stirring macaroni also
