I still have my 6042 European styled tank engine from my 1974 Christmas present. The Hornby pick up goods set. Still runs like a demented scalextric and still slams to a halt on points!
Wow, great stuff. They can struggle on points for sure. Given we learnt about the coal tender wagon I'm seriously considering adding pickups which should resolve the problem. Speed wise I seem to be lucky with mine in that they are all able to run realisticly
My kids call their red one of these the pocket rocket, they love how fast it whizzes around our layout! I it’s also a Caledonian one but in red? Might have that wrong, it’s definitely a Scottish model anyway. OOBill has done extensive works on these as you may know - including permanently close-coupling and hard-wiring a coal wagon to the back of his and adding extra pickups to it. This also provides the opportunity to add DCC /sound by hiding the chip / speaker under the load.
Good to see these enduring and often under-appreciated little locos getting some attention. My first one was 'Desmond' in freelance red bought 1981 and my latest the Centenary Smokey Joe. One of the best beginner/budget locos Hornby ever did.
hello Mike, great video, these are great locos, i have two of them, my one R2672 does not have the hand rails or the emblem, because i believe the clowns at hornby deleted them as a cost cutting measure. never the less i am keeping mine, these locos i think were a class 264,,again due to clown activity none were saved,
You make the mundane and unsung interesting Mike, a great way to unwind, loved the running session with the Caledonian blue coaches and mixed goods. Always enjoy your insights. Poor class 33 lol👍
Hi Mike, a brilliant video. I really like the Hornby 0-4-0s I,v got a couple. I also have 2 Triang Hornby ones. Funny enough I,v got one in next week's video. Really enjoyed your video. Carl.
Gary, I'm so glad you enjoyed it, your little engine has settled in well and of course doing the research taught me stuff such as the Drummond connection and the wagon tenders used, thanks so much again :)
nice video. I have two of these Pugs both painted BR black. One was a 'Smokey Joe; I bought for son called Jo. HIs interest in model railways was short lived. I added a coal tender and extra pick ups as shown by 00Bill. But i might get the Sharpie out as you did!
Hi Mike I hope you are well This is an interesting video Love the history part Thank for the tips on these models I have 3 of them and ones rare. Thank you for sharing your models with us Keep safe ARP
I recently picked up a late run hornby Polly type engine fitted with one of those HP motors in an X04 adapter. It's a great little motor. Great little models. I had a collectors club version circa 2018? Nice runner. They have a reputation for breaking the sound barrier but certainly can manage low speeds. Had no idea about Drummond though, that's a new one on me. I believe the anniversary edition of smokey Joe had the hand rails reinstated and the star picked out.
@@ModelRailwaysUnlimited There are a lot of Scottish and Southern cousins from that era. I'm more of a Richard Maunsell guy and he certainly took influence from previous employment. I do like your laid back presentation style. You are kind of like the Bob Ross of model railways 😂
I have two Hornby 0-4-0s but its the GWR class 101 or holden tanks i have the same problem with the cylinders plus they prefer faster running than slow running. Fantastic video Mike🙂
Nice to see two of Mr Drummind's lesser known locomotives reature in another interesting video! 🙂 However Mike, presumably you are now awaiting the attendance of the Rolling Stock Inspectors based at Waterloo station's Platform 16?
Great video Mike. I have quite a soft spot for most of the old Hornby 0-4-0's, good to see them getting some time in the limelight.
Thanks 👍 feel the same

Thanks, yes that's a description often given lol.n
Two handsome little engines returned to traffic after overhaul and running beautifully. A nice video. Thank you.
Thank you very much!

To nice little locos retuned to traffic nice video Patrick Quinn IRL
Thanks Patrick, yes indeed, they will be busy later
The only worthy successors the the trusty old Triang 0-4-0T’s : Nellie, Polly, Connie and Nº27 as far as I’m concerned. Great video!
Thanks very much indeed, did you catch this video ruclips.net/video/wwbh1MVm44U/видео.htmlsi=rMRiRMQ8L7X88lUX

Sounds great! yes the Drummond connection surprised me but he was Scottish CME first I guess lol

I have Great fun with Pugs and Holdens on my Branch line, and they are excellent VFM. 👍🏻

Haha never happened Guv, buffed out 😂
Great video Mike, I have a BR Pug that I regularly service but it does have a wobble.
Thanks, yeah they can get a wobble on lol
Yes, my L&YR model wobbles badly. Is it possible to take out some of the slack somehow?
@@tankmicr00man I think you just have to live with it.
@@tankmicr00man hmmm 🤔 I think it's just the wheels to be honest, are it's pistons free as in the video?
You can practice a shot a thousand times, and then when you turn the camera on - - - !
lol yes very true, the 33 was supposed to push the pug through the points where it kept sticking but in the end a worse mess hahaha
I have Smokey Joe
Me to, lovely engine 🚂
