These are my favorite kinds of video for this channel. My reading French is moderately good but spoken French is my weakness. I like to listen the first time with eyes closed and imagining myself there as part of the conversation.
I too am better at reading than speaking or listening so these videos are a godsend. I do a similar thing, I look away during the conversation so I am 100% focused on the words and tones.
Oh my gosh, how does that work so well? I understood more than half the first time but seeing it in writing then translation made the whole conversation so easy the second time. Wow, that surprised me. The conversational abbreviations of the more formal Parisian words we learned in school so long ago are hard to grasp and in addition, I grew up in an Acadian French speaking family many, years ago and there are words I am not familiar with. Thank you for making these videos.
Im in my third week of French learning and your videos are very helpful for a newbie like me. Im happy I can understand this conversation 60%without the subtitle. Merci madame 😊
Merci beaucoup Alexa! As with so many others I can piece together a written paragraph but listening and understanding is my complete downfall! My brain turns it all into 'vowel soup'. This is perfect, and helps me become familiar with the real sounds of the language in both comprehension and pronunciation! Bisou, bisou!
Thank you so much Alexa! Listening several times then dissecting the phrases really "trains the ear" to hear the individual words and understand the liaisons. I enjoy all your videos but ones like this are SUPER-helpful for intermediate learners (like me). XO
This is a very useful video. Watching films with french subtitles and eng(or ur 1st lang) language... then rewatching in english subtitles with french language .... and then in french without subtitles is fun also... lot of dvds have this language facility.
@@7alawen Hi I was saying, as an English speaker, learning french I: 1. I love your videos but I do have one small correction, it should be I studied all last night instead of I revised all last night. These are amazing tools that you are giving people to learn keep up the strong work!
Can someone explain to me how you are supposed to differentiate between "il préfère, elle préfère" and "ils préfèrent, elles préfèrent"? They are pronounced the same way? How can I tell if someone is speaking in singular or plural? Merci!
Hi Alexander, it is usually either a visual clue, for example, if you're in person speaking French and you're referring to a group of people you would use ils / elles and people would understand you mean the group of them in general. Or, it is explained in a previous sentence or phrase, for example, 'Mon ami est sympa, il m'a donné un cadeau'. So here, we know we know we need to use 'Il' because we're talking about 'mon ami' which is masculine. Hope this helps!
“Après-domain”… Is this simply “after tomorrow” or “ the day after tomorrow”? I would think the hyphen would not be needed for the former, but please correct me. (I also have problems understanding spoken French, but I surprised myself this time. Thank you for your wonderful teaching!) 🎃

Après-demain is a compound word in french
@@Gary-pe4ce But is it specifically “the day after tomorrow” or any ol’ day after?
@@phoener well there has been a history where french is doing away with the hyphen, I suspect every 10 years the meeting will eventually get to compound words like these, maybe it made sense back when it was first coined.
When I mean meeting I mean a meeting with french imperialists who are revising the dictionary.
@@Gary-pe4ce 😁
In the US it would be "I reviewed all night". Yes, you can say I revised all night, but most people, in my experience as an American, talk about the need to review for an exam or a test or material in preparation for an exam.
My fellow Americans: to revise in British English means to review in American English
(In case anyone else wondered!)
