- The whole album, and particularly this track, is full of melancholy and powerful lyrics. A set of acoustic solo demos was recorded on a four-track from 1994 to 1998, including sketch versions of seven songs he eventually fleshed out for the second White Rose Transmission album. Recorded by Carlo Van Putten and Adrian Borland. Vocals and guitar by Adrian. All tracks were recorded at Carlo's house. The album was released in 2000, after Adrian's death (26th of April, 1999).
This video is based on a documentary, filmed in 1971. The Battersea's Doddington and Rollo estate. A high-density development built by Wandsworth Borough Council in the late 60s to house 7000 people. Battersea is a district of South West London, England, within the London Borough of Wandsworth. You can find the whole 48 minutes documentary here • London Council Estates...

Lyrics
My spirit’s free, you won’t get me
Into the box your life is locked in
Your value system’s broken down
I see it blocks the road it stopped in
And every day the things you crave
Make a play for my affection
I tell you straight, I won’t be swayed
I’m walking in the opposite direction
They scream at me from flashing screens
They hassle me from city walls
But these are other people’s dreams
They don’t resemble mine at all
And every day the things you crave
Make a play for my affection
I tell you straight, I won’t be swayed
I’m walking in the opposite direction
The stuff that you hold dear and high
How does it warrant such devotion?
I think you’ve lost the reason why
Though you still carry on the motion
And every day the things you crave
Make a play for my affection
I tell you straight, I won’t be swayed
I’m walking in the opposite direction - Видеоклипы
I knew him and jammed in my Dad's shed with other Raynes Parkers, before The Sound. He was a gentle bloke.
Dear McCaffrey, Adrian's compositions reflect his gentle inner self. His music is wonderful just like him. Thank you for adding this unique comment. Jamming with Andrian would be a great lifetime experience! Take care.
@@dimitrischapel4433 I was 15 or 16 years old and didn't know the future of course. I am still playing and gigging. Music was so important to us all then. For me it helped me deal with the death of my father in 1973 and I still dedicate some playing to him.
It is such a shame Adrian is gone. Other musical friends of that time have died young and some are still playing and are well known, like Ed Wynne.
The thing is to struggle beautifully, I suppose.
@@sinbadMcCaffrey Music is maybe the only reason we are all still here. I lost my father last year... and music kept me going. We all miss Andrian, wish he could find a way out. Which band are you still playing? I have seen Ed with Ozric many years before, he is wonderful. Struggle beautifully... yes, think you are right.
Amazing suitable video!
Beautiful song.

Genio
The perfect soundtrack to the urban life of the UK of past decades. And such a beautiful melancholic feeling it evokes! Great Borland track as well.
Truly this song is very suitable. Thank you for spotting and connecting with the feeling!
