Kansas City here aswell. 430 in the morning and there are atleast 2 of these owls in the tree next to my window. I thought I had heard something while watching the news so I turned down the TV and heard these owls calling each other across my neighborhood. I could hear the ones in the distance pretty well but the ones right outside my window were really loud. With it being almost Halloween and a bright moon in the sky it was pretty cool and creepy at the same time sitting here listening to them for about 30 minutes or so. They either flew away, went to sleep or getting it on right now because I can't hear them anymore. lol
I think the city waking up with all the different noises it brings scared them off probably. All in all it was cool while it lasted. For all I know they could be staring at me through my skylight. lol

I live in Northeast Ohio, and I hear these beautiful creatures hooting in my backyard all the time. But just this evening, I saw one perched on a tree branch outside my bedroom window, and excitedly got my parents and little brother to go look at it too. It didn't make any noise, it just sat there cleaning itself. I really should have just taken a picture of it from inside the house, but I wanted to get a really clear one, so I tried to get a picture outside of him a little closer. The very second I opened the door, he flew away, and I didn't get a picture. Hopefully, I'll see the owl again someday outside my bedroom window, and I'll be able to take a picture of it. This time I'll do it from inside the house, though.

By the time the lady who ran the center found her, one wing was so infected, it had to be amputated. I got to hold her during a public showing and she was a treat to hold. these OWLS are awesome and I call them in all the time here in Lake George, NY. I was watching 1 in a tree on my mountain camera the other night ...it was perched over a deer carcass that was put up there for predators. The following morning I got video of it on my river view camera out front ....it had killed a rabbit under my feeders an came back for it while I was standing in the front window trying to figure out what killed the rabbit...amazing raptor's these are....vid is on my channel.... ;-) * thumbs up!!!

Excellent presentation! I love owls. They are my favorite raptor and species of birds. I am happy I stumbled on this video. Years ago, we used to have a Great Horned Owl up in the trees behind my neighbors unit across the street from me. It was a real gift to hear that call. I wish it was still around. The Barred Owl is gorgeous and what a beautiful call. What a great attempt at imitating the call! Keep up the great work!

So i hear that there gonna kill thousands of this kind of owls to save the spotted owl, that is going to extintion? What about those that desforested there habitat taking tha spotted owl to extint??

    • @rebellucy6200

Just read about that too. Apparently they are moving into the spotted owl territory and thus eliminating them. Similar to Israel and what they are doing to the Palestinians.

What I enjoyed learning today thanks to the WMCC's Director Carrie: Barred owls have asymmetrical ears and lack the ability to smell. While the owl lacks the sense of smell, it is able to 'triangulate' exactness. That's quite a trade off.

Isn't he just the most majestic bird! Great question, Debbie! We don't pet him...it is too stressful. Unlike domestic cats and dogs, and some species of "pet" birds, this and most wild/rehabilitated (but too compromised to release back into the wild) animals do not welcome pats of affection. They do like being admired from afar:-)

It’s shocking to hear that barn owls are endangered in places. They were common in rural Washington State where I grew up. There was a pair that lived in a friend’s barn and we’d go peek at them after school. Usually one would be sitting in the rafters illuminated by the beams of light piercing through the spaces in the barn’s cladding. The first of us in the door was the bravest!

I live in central MA and have seen barred owls a few times - they're so big!! That wingspan is definitely a shocker when one flies over my head out on the trail. They don't seem to be too bothered by me and on one occasion I walked right up to one face to face before I noticed it was there 👀

Keep up the great work teaching the next generation❤ Our home is located next to a busy roadway rural PA...unfortunately, a few weeks ago I found a juvenile barred owl laying next to our driveway with a fluff of feathers near the blacktop. So beautiful, so sad. We have "mole heaven" for all our neighboring birds of prey...

I work at a bar and we serve crawfish during spring, so we have all these live crawfish in the back ready to be boiled. This barred owl started coming around and will swoop down and start eating the crawfish, doesn’t even care if someone is down there cooking 😂 now there are like 5 owls that come around

They’re all over here in Alabama too lately. They keep flying over the fenced in area of our yard and hooting. Ironically there’s 2 of these barred owls and 1 screech owl who hangs out with them. They surprisingly don’t eat him and consider him part of the pack or something. I’m glad lol they’ve been flying over our house every night for 3 1/2 weeks
