what a wonderful and inspiring testimony Erma.. This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me. And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water. And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him. And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost. (John 1:30-33).
Erma, loved your testimony! Your insight into baptism was spot on. It is an outward symbol showing what is going on in your heart. It is not being baptised into a specific denomination. I had recently been baptized by the LDS church, and have been fighting my conscience about that church. There are no Anabaptist churches in my area, so it eas the next best thing. I needed to get baptised and they were the only option available to me. I am Anabaptist, a Christian, first and foremost. Another note: you may have left the Amish, but Gelassenheit still lives in you. God bless
