- Using only what comes as standard with Photoshop (or Elements) learn how to find the Puzzle texture and apply it to a modern high resolution image to create a realistice jigsaw.
Gavin Hoey www.gavinhoey.c... guides you through all the steps.
Man I love you!
Just what I needed. Not too long, well explained, no annoying background music.
Thanks sooooooo much!
Excellent tutorial - have searched for a way to make a single puzzle piece from a picture - could create it from this tutorial. Thanks for creating it.
wasn't that simply fantastic? I love puzzles and puzzle effects on pictures. thanks for showing how to do it.
Gavin, even though you don't answer questions, I can't help but respect you for your work and method of tutoring. Well Done!
This video has been there for a while! I´ve seen a lot of tutorials online, and this one os of the best by far. So well expressed, with the necessary information, cannot understand the thumbs down!! Good job, just subscribed to the channel, looking forward to learning something new!
Be sure to check out all his older tutorials, they are all great!!
This was a great tutorial. The one thing that I would add is that if you have a light colored background, you should add a light grey stroke to the cut out puzzle piece. This helps pull it off the page a little better.
this is seriously one of the best tutorials! you explain everything with such great details! thank you! :)
yes very well explain...;:)
Another piece of wonderful tutorial Gavin. Loved it
I have to say my friend, that this was one of the best presented and most useful photoshop tutorial videos i've ever seen... even the voiceover is excellent. Great stuff! keep them coming... i'm off now to make a jigsaw pic of my daughter :) thanks
here is another useful tip :
after u add the jigsaw layer .. instead of selecting the white portions and erasing them just go to the layer panel and just besides opacity u change the overlay mode from "normal" to "Darken".
easy and quicker way to do it .. :)
a very useful guide nevertheless .. a big thanks to that.
I just found your vids and they are amazing!!! Thank you for taking the time to show us all these effects.
WOW...this is SOOOO awesome...my head is swirling right now...Thank u so much!!!!!!!!! 5.9/5
For me the jigsaw effect works a bit better if you change the direction in Bevel & emboss from down to up. This gives it an indent look which is more realistic rather than a raised lip imo. Have to say i have used many of Mr Hoeys tip to expand my knowledge of photoshop so thanks.
Your tutorial makes me so enjoyable. Thanks!
Excellent tutorial, I just happened to make my own puzzle, thanks Gavin
Gavin for president!!!
in CS5 you can find textures in \\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5\Plug-ins\Presets\Texture and i think the same with cs4...
nice tutorial Gavin Thank you! ^^
I love this video. So well- explained. Thank you. I will try soon.
Awesome tutorial Gavin....as always!
once again Gavin . . just great thank you
Try going to filter > textures > texturize and then load > program files > Ps > presets > textures > Puzzle.psd
Thats the way it works :) hope I've helped
I had to make a puzzle for my Flash class at college. I used you puzzle.psd suggested file for a template and the magic wand tool. However, before I did the cutout from the picture I expanded the selection by 6 pixels. On the new layer I then stroked the puzzle piece 3 pixels.
Thanks for this video - very clear and useful! Much appreciated!
In Windows for CS3 it's
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS3\Presets\Textures
If i send you a photo can you make me a 1000 piece jigsaw from it
Great tutorial.
Very good!!!...Congratulations!!!
thank you very very much. I wish you the best. thanks again
nice job, cool effect and well explained....I have cs5 and found a zip file at the Adobe.com site that contains the jigsaw PSD file....just open the zip and drag the PSD file in photoshop when needed......look under optional plugins for cs5
it works even in lower version of ps like photoshop 7.0
THAT is realy cool...!!
thanks for the tutorial! nice and clear! I was wondering: after we turn the photo into a jigsaw puzzle, can we print it on a wooden texture, for instance?
Superb! Thanks Gavin.
Gr8!:) This is what I was looking for.:)
Very nice.
God bless you
@bagtit01 you're so wrong. 'Presets' and "Plug-ins' folders reside both in the main PS folder. The 'puzzle.psd' file is missing from CS5, and i guess CS4 too, just search your computer and see for yourself.
thanks a lot, such a clear and nice tutorial:)
Bravo majstore!
Excelent, great teacher
thanks! Great tutorial !
that is just awesome man
Good tips!
Perfect Tutorial!!!! Thank you!

Hi Gavin! Thanks for this amazing tutorial. I wonder if you can help me? i do have a CS5 but after following your tutorial i just found out that i do not have the puzzle texture? I did try to look at adobe's webpage, google it and still i couldn't find anything? Do you know where i can get it? Thanks!
ur such a good ...tnx... great vids..
I really like how you can make a puzzle, but now the question is how do you put it back together again once you've cut all the pieces out as shown?
Thank you very neat!
Hi Gavin, I am using elements 11. I got the "Puzzle PSD" into elements and put it on top of my Image , But when I Try to Remove the "White " off the PSd I ran into a problem.
When I Choose "Select" there is NO "Color Range" in the Drop-Down Menu .
Obviously this is because it was done in an Older version of Elements . .
Can you Help Me . Many Thanks Barry.
Hi Gavin. As you probably already know the texture map isn't in CS5 anymore. So i was wondering if you knew where to get the puzzle.psd file to download. Since googling it, doesn't really give me anything. Thanks!
Thank You...Great video...
SUPER!!!
I have Adobe PS CS4, but there is no "Textures" folder inside the "Presets" folder on my hard drive. Are these textures located anywhere else on my system? Is there anywhere I can download them (or just the puzzle psd)?
good stuff mate thanks!!
fantastic!
@photoGavin
everytime i make a copy of the layer in the beginning and selected the right layer, then i go to edit then fill -> forground color and even tho i selected the foreground color white, when i hit ok, your seems to change to white but mine keeps on stayin the same picture, even when i click on the eye, it still the same, Howcome what must i change and where is that option?
I was just thinking the same thing...maybe there's a way to import the textures folder from older versions?
IS there a place to download the texture file into my presets in Photoshop CS4 I have looked everywhere and do not have them
hi Gavin I running CC2014 and I can not locate the puzzle pattern can you help with that, thank , ed
Thanks very much , very helpfull

Has this been removed from CS6? I don't seem to be able to find the textures file. If it has, is there another way to create this effect? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Are you using CS4? 'Cause it didn't come with my CS4. I had to go on my work computer which just has Photoshop CS in orde to get the file.
I am using CS6. Puzzle is not included in textures. I have downloaded it, but when I follow your instructions (File, open, presets, textures, puzzle, open) it opens the puzzle as a new photoshop document and I cannot get it to lay overtop of my photo. Can anyone advise?
Hello. Can I have a link for a puzzle photo? All I found in Google are really small. Thx
