  • ...Or, "What the hero of Hyrule can teach us about ourselves."
    None of the video footage/gameplay/characters are mine, have mercy Lord Nintendo. ^_^;
    Let's take a look at what personality type Link has, the strengths he displays that we can emulate, and some tendencies he may possess towards folly that we can avoid in our own lives.

    Something interesting in BOTW is Link’s Japanese diary, which openly states that his main desire to save Hyrule is just to see Zelda’s smile again, showing that his relationship with Zelda is more than duty. It's one of the few times that Link talks about why he wants to save Hyrule instead of it just because he's the only one who can. He also often talks about her admiringly, hoping to gain her approval by growing his strength, which he doesn't even do for Mipha during that quest.
    Speaking of Zelda, maybe you can do one on her in BOTW.

      This is incorrect. There's no Link diary. The Adventure Log is not his dairy. Years ago, someone uploaded a widely misinterpretation and mistranslation from the japanese Adventure Log into english, posted it to Reddit or God knows where and everyone fell for it. When Link speaks about "How I desire to save the kingdom", that's wrong, and I can confirm you that everytime "I" is used in "Link's diary"/Japanese adventure log it's wrong. All those "I"s are autofilled by a translation machine. I'm not scolding you, by the way, just taking you out of the lie you and thousands of persons fell for.

      @@NintenFanMigue Then why did they have such a specific, personal entry if it wasn’t from Link’s point of view? Wouldn’t it have been easier for Nintendo not to have include that at all? And if it isn’t from Link’s perspective, why do so many native Japanese speakers believe it is? Wouldn’t they know the best if it was from Link’s perspective or not?

    A true hero doesn't seek to inspire, rather, they just want to get the job done.

    Each Hero definitely has different subtle psychology and individual traumas, the Hero of the Wild is probably the most developed in terms of showing a range of developments with his personality. Especially when it came to losing his memories in botw and the resulting almost 180 in his way of expressing himself/his personality as a whole. The Hero of the Wild does communicate, but he's very selective especially in BotW. Not as selective in TotK.
    The Hero of Time may be the second most developed through direct storytelling/gameplay as you actually experience the vastness of the trauma that kid encountered. We never actually get into his head, but looking at what he's encountered and knowing how people react to traumatic events (the growing up too fast trope is a big one that speaks to a lot of people). He very likely suffered a lot of psychological repercussions after it was all said and done. But he appeared impervious during his journey.
    The triforce of courage must have something to do with their mental integrity and durability during their adventure specifically- magic artifact and all. BotW Link before memory loss already displayed a very shutdown, closed off response to knowing he was the Hero and the potential responsibilities so he was able to develop responses to trauma. He wasn't personable, he believed that's what he had to be in order to do his duty. Sure, the journey that he took in botw was obviously one of putting things right again/being a hero. But I also sort of think it was about him learning how to actually be a person and not just The Hero. A story of Link coming to terms with things he couldn't prevent 100 years prior, sort of like how people with mental health problems can use a new journey/therapy to come to terms with our situations with the help of others. Just not with to 100 years of sleep (even though I bet that was pretty nice).

    As a Zelda fan, and a personality indicator enthusiast (and a Christian), I thought this video was really cool! I'd love to hear your takes on other iconic characters too!
    Out of curiosity, have you ever done anything with the enneagram? I overthink the Zelda characters' enneagrams way too much, so I'd be curious to hear your take if you had one 😁
