As someone that gets employed to operate a Gimbal and can use a steadicam I think they both have their uses and places. I really doubt computerised gimbals will ever replace Steadicams. Many a job I'm asked to do a shot on a gimbal where it really should have been a steadicam shot for all sorts or reasons. Gimbals are not just a cheaper stabiliser they have very particular uses and can do things steadicams can't, such as be unmanned, hand off's etc. Likewise Steadicams an do things Gimbals such as needing a second remote operator, going around corners/changing direction quickly. Also steadicams , don't need batteries and frankly much more reliable
Thanks for giving your perspective on this. I appreciate your knowledge.
@5:51... I see you Pedro! 🙌🏽🙌🏽
I just saw this!! hehehe..... I have yet to make my steadicam/R2 video. Actually finally going to shoot it soon.
The Ready Rig alleviates the weight of a gimbal system for an operator.
“Not going anywhere”. Untrue. Degrees of motorisation are available. Expensive, but worth it for high end productions. Steadicam Volt etc. Or at the entry level the Steadimate S combines a Ronin S with a Steadicam arm.
Nice overview.
I would love to see any company develop an affordable steadicam/gimbal fusion
It already exists. Tiffen does a steadicam vest and arm that is meant to accommodate a gimbal
@@theo.jovitch They just showed it at NAB. Do you know the retail cost? tiffen.com/pages/steadimate-s
@@danielbrockett9544 I was thinking of the "steadimate" not "steadimate-s", the standard one is meant for bigger gimbals like Movi pro etc. It's Tiffen so it is going to be expensive anyway ;p
@@theo.jovitch Yeah, I think that one is $3k. I was just curious what they will price the S for. Most single hand gimbals are around $500.00-$700.00 so a $2k or $1,500.00 Steadicam rig isn't going to make economic sense for most users.
@@danielbrockett9544 totally agree, people buy single hand gimbals for ease of transport as well (I have a crane 2 myself) so as steadicam harness completely defeats the purpose of "traveling light".
Thank you.
So... u never herd of the volt innit? And I set up my steadicam in half of the time I set up my ronin. Am I doing something wrong with my ronin2 , I set up my archer in 15 min or so.
I say lets race. You build and balance your steadicam and I'll do the same with my R2 ...hehehe E ai? Vamo?
This is quite inaccurate since when using a heavy payload with a big gimbal the operator would definitely also use a system like the readyrig or easyrig with serene arm. Also since gimbals don't need a physical counterweight for the camera payload the gimbal system would definitely be lighter for a similar camera payload.
