    Pro tip, while hunting in Rotten Vale always utilize Slinger Torch. This is very effective against Great Girros. And, it also clears out the toxic smoke when shot towards the ground area. LBG and HBG users will find the flaming ammo to be very effective also. I forgot to mention if you use the Slinger Torch on the area where the toxic smoke is coming from. It, will temporarily clear that area of poison. Look for the rotten flesh with mist coming out of it.
    Good Hunting!

      Honestly I find it easier to just wear the Girros belt to nullify the damage. Just saves time if I'm fighting in that area.

      Garion Bender that's good for a average or experienced Hunter that has that gear. But, for a Hunter that's new or doesn't understand the area they will find the Slinger Torch to be very helpful.

      Clearing out the miasma seems to be a special property of Torch Pods. More specifically, it comes from the fires that they leave when you hit the ground or walls with them. Incendiary rounds from a bowgun don't have the same effect.

    My tips based on experience:
    1. Flash Pods are a miracle againts flying monsters like Rathalos and are good in general. Too few people use them. It can save lives. Just don't overuse it, because you can run out of flash bugs before you know it.
    2. Watch out for other hunters position when hitting the monster. If someone is hitting the tail and it is smaller, go somewhere else or you will just "push" each other for lack of a better word. It's annoying and you will output less damage.
    3. Be very careful with the Dual Blades. 7 times out of 10 they faint 3 times because they don't pay attention and just slash until they die. Seriously DB users, why are you not paying attention?
    4. Bring an armor with elemental resistance when needed! Some weaker monster can even one shot you if your resistance is negative! I've seen hunters in full Bazel set against tempered Kirin.
    5. Never attempt to capture an elder dragon and change your Palico's equipment accordingly. Flash Cage may work, but the trap will not. It's 50% of the equipment wasted.
    6. Play it safe. If you have 50 minutes, that's more than enough to not to be greedy. You can even fall back and restock multiple times. If you lose control, the monster will throw you around like a toy.
    7. HEAL. Most times you can't go in like "I'm gonna tank this" because if you don't have stun resistance, you will be stunned, you will most likely faint and you become one of the reasons for failure. Trust me, it's emberassing.
    8. Learn about the monsters and choose where or when to attack them if you can. For example it's a bad idea to fight Kirin on a platform with a Paratoad, because you or someone else can hit it by accident, get paralyzed, while Kirin is immune to it. I usually kick or capture the Paratoad to avoid this.
    9. Specialized Tools can help a lot. Makes sure you bring the right one for the job. Fireproof Mantle will not help againts Nergigante, but even the Ghillie Mantle can save you in a tight situation.
    10. Eat at the Canteen before or at the camp during the quest. If you are not sure how it works, look it up, or just pick the one with highest Health and/or Stamina boost. You need every advantage you can get.
    11. Break parts. Tails can be severed in most cases. If you have a ranged weapon and you are in a team, aim for something that some short range melee weapons can't reach normally, like wings or sometimes the head.
    12. If you can't hit the monster's weak spot, just hit something that does not make your weapon bounce off.
    13. If you use melee weapons, sharpen it regularly. A dull weapon can cause the weapon to bounce off.
    14. Bring the biggest bombs with you as soon as you can. Blowing them up when they sleep can shorten the fight tremendously.
    15. Wait for the other hunters especially if the monster is asleep. Maybe they have bombs too. It's the most critical part of the quest, because it can go downhill immediately and you are so close.
    16. When you see your fellow hunter stunned, hit them!
    17. Watch this video.

    Don't flash a mounted monster. I know it's tempting when you see a monster flying with a hunter on its back, but the knockdown from a flash pod lasts *significantly* less time than a proper knockdown from a finished mount. 95% of my Teostra, Kushala, and Vaal Hazak mounts end with a random online person using a flash pod... don't be that guy...

    • @RandomQuestNPC
      @RandomQuestNPC 6 лет назад +18

      This need to be taught to more people. I know that some people just want to brainlessly hit the monsters, but damn it's annoying when a mount is wasted by a flashbang. Even though I'm usually not the one mounting, I'm happy when a mount is occuring, cause that's the best opportunity to crack a might pill and benefit from it the most.
      Flash bombs are useful, but not to the point where they need to be used left and right.

    • @Vauche
      @Vauche 6 лет назад +13

      When I'm running my wide-range support SnS and mount an Elder Dragon, if I manage to succeed the mount I will pop the Might Pill as I'm falling. The developers actually let you use it mid fall, probably for that very reason. If it's Vaal Hazak, Kushala, or Teostra, the might pill will be in effect before I hit the ground because speed eating is just that good. If I get flashed off, there's not much point in using it since the monster will be down for only a fraction of the time they would have gone down otherwise. I even changed my mounting callout to "DON'T FLASH! I'M MOUNTED!" but unfortunately, many people either don't read English or just don't notice. It's a shame too because I really wanted to put something silly there, and despite best efforts it gets ignored most of the time anyway.

    • @alexclark4792
      @alexclark4792 5 лет назад +1

      Sometimes it's just a reaction to a monster flying and they can't see that you are on it. And sometimes it's ignorance.

    I would recommend to capture the monster in the end. For some reasons. 1. You save time fighting the monster in his final area. 2. It prevents to die in the final area. 3. Increase chance for gems. 4. You get more investigation points from capturing.
    Great Video, keep up the good work.

      @James-le4gn 6 лет назад +15

      Well, unless you break certain parts of a monster or on an investigation, there are some monsters that only drop certain items through carves. Choose your Palico's tools too.
    - When hunting alone I use Vigorwasp to save potions and Vigorwasp Delivery saved my ass many times.
    - When hunting with a team, bring Coral Orchestra to apply many useful buff, including negate stun and earplug.
    - If the monster is agile and moves around a lot (like Tobi & Odo), try the Flash & Thundercage. Works with other monsters too. However it won't be able to stun them for long when using shock traps because you've shocked them many times before, use Pitfall traps or tranq the monsters first and THEN use shock traps.
    - Use the shield if you use ranged weapons I guess.

      Sąkata Gıntoki Exactly, I'd say it's even more important with S.O.S calls and random joins because you never know when an inexperienced Hunter will make a mistake and need a helping hand from a veteran. Life Powder is really easy to make so I wouldn't worry too much about the cost.

    • @RandomQuestNPC
      @RandomQuestNPC 6 лет назад +29

      Rave, healing items aren't really precious resources, they're quite easy to get/craft. It's always nice having someone helping out others. Even more so in a SoS. That general attitude towards "randoms" that can be witnessed in every MH discussion is getting a bit irritating. You're a random too mate.
      Back to the subject at hand, I personally enjoy playing Wide-range SnS complete with mushroomancer, flash/screamer bombs, and the para SnS, so I'm already a living Lifepowder, I don't need to bring them, nah!

  • @RickyJC
    @RickyJC 6 лет назад +35

    I’m really surprised no one said to start the game with a mushroomancer set. Eat the nitroshroom for attack, parashroom for defense, mandragora for the full life boost, and toadstool for the increased life recovery. Other than the toadstool, everything is permanent until you cart and the stats transfer when you switch armorsets to your real monster hunting one. This is massively important!

    If you are hunting solo with your Palico and a monster you want to capture is ready to be captured, don't waste shock traps when you can use your Palico's Thunderbug Cage. Be sure your Palico has max proficiency in it so that you can manually order your Palico to put down the Thunderbug Cage.

While I've never found myself in real life threatening situations while knocked prone, this can save you from taking more damage, considering how most of the slinger ammo causes the monster to stagger.

      Multiplayer etiquette, the to do list to be a proper multiplayer aristocrat:
      -Hoard all of the first kit and rations. You're special, let the plebeians eat dirt!
      -Get yourself a LS or DB. An IG works too. Now go and attack at will without worrying about tripping the peasants trying to poke monsters with their forks and butter knife. I mean "lance and SnS" as they like to call these things.
      -Don't let these homeless people trying to carve meat from a dead monsters, make them learn how to behave properly in front of a deceased creature and trip them until they abandon their dishonourable way of life.
      -Do not be selfish, and let other peoples learn the pleasure of flight if your weapon allows it. Let them taste the freedom that birds have, do not deny them that pleasant feeling.
      -Do not overexert yourself. If you're tired, just let your serfs hunt those bloody monsters while enjoying tea at camp. You wouldn't want to hurt your pretty face because of a misstep caused by fatigue.

    Tips from a support/ team focused hunter. Bring and use life powders. You can save a team mate from near death especially if the monster is trying to combo them and they are diving after diving after diving. Or blocking while taking chip damage and the monster refuses to stop attacking them. Second of your team mate is dizzy. Hit them!!!!! You will get them out of the dizzy effect way faster than they can mash their buttons to get out of it. Can't tell you how many times I would have lived from something of a team mate hit me to give me a chance to actually dodge teostra's explosions. Gunners you should do this every time as you can knock a team mate out of their dizzy from long distance instead of a blade master running to them and whacking them. As a follow up if you are using a weapon that launches your team mates like the upward slash from the great sword. You can get your team mates out of para. Alternatively take a cleaner booster (the purple one) and place it on that team mate or near them and they will get the para automatically removed.

    As a newbie one thing I've learned is you should never underestimate how fast a sword and shield can inflict various status effects. Personally I feel it does better than Elemental damage.

    • @jackschwitzer3006
      @jackschwitzer3006 6 лет назад +1

      That's because elemental damage is calculated differently from status effect damage, and that some monster parts have different elemental defenses against the monsters elemental weakness, while basically no monsters besides a small minority(*cough*KIRIN*cough*) can completely no-sell status effect weaponry of any kind, while it is possible to have a Dragon damage attack deal 0 damage to an elder dragon with a Dragon weakness, if you hit the wrong parts.

    This is a great comprehensive guide to hunting. I use the same strategies myself.
    I'm currently using a Greatsword Diablos set for Crit Draw attacks so positioning is everything. I hear a lot about how people tackle-cancel into the 3rd swing with Greatsword but sometimes just the simple "slash, roll and run" tactic works even better as it takes less time to set up, allowing you to stay safe.

  • @basscody3328
    @basscody3328 6 лет назад +39

    Not bringing traps against regular monsters? Traps are always in my loadout against them. While trapped, every player can do their most powerful attack to the body part they want while the monster is being static for a few seconds. Even more useful against Tempered or fast-moving monsters (Odogaron being first in my mind).

    • @gundamforreal
      @gundamforreal 6 лет назад +3

    • @gundamforreal
      @gundamforreal 6 лет назад

      Xerxerous I try, but most of the time the tranq wears off before the monster gets trapped, because it seems to go everywhere but where the trap is.

    • @davidrosensin7985
      @davidrosensin7985 6 лет назад +6

      Step 1) make monster run to sleep.
      Step 2) Go to monster's head.
      Step 3) Tranq bomb x2 (3 if you're the unsure overcautious type.)
      Step 4) Put down trap.
      Step 5) Profit.
      Tranqs aren't reliant on being dropped after the monster is trapped. So as long as you tranq the fool while it's sleeping, you're fine. Then just drop a trap like normal and RIP.
      If for whatever reason you're complaining about this happening in hunts where the monster isn't able to go to sleep, start bringing the challenger mantle, drop the trap, stand on other side, profit.

    • @dawnc.1765

      Arekkz Gaming there seems to be about a half second to a second delay after sheathing your weapon before you can fire your slinger, which may be contributing to the timing thing. CB has a fairly long sheathe time on average so that coupled with the delay makes it hard to get the timing right. I've missed flash bombing flying monsters because of this same delay as well.

In my opinion it's the perfect weapon for people who are just starting the game. It has a low skill floor, and mastering it is only a matter of learning what arrows to use when. It's my go to weapon for difficult monsters.

    Funny that now i have to watch educational hunting videos on the internet because its been over a decade since i was on the top of the food chain... (Monster Hunter 1 veteran)
    Back in my day you had to bring your wetstones that you mined from the rathalos nest on the forest and hills zone.
    You had no scoutflies, so you had to bring like 10 paintballs to throw around at the monsters to keep track of them and follow them on the map, good luck if you forgot.
    Since you had no "fixed items" when you wanted to mine, you brought your pickaxe, when you wanted to catch bugs, you brought your net, never bring those on the hunt, for they will take the inventory space that you need to bring the loot.
    The game barely told you anything, you just had to choose a direction and wing it.
    The greatsword is still the best weapon 15 years later =D

    1) Many areas have palico/gajalaka assist locations, and if you can mount the monster near them they can give you a hand. The palicos will restrain the monster, giving you an opportunity to heal, sharpen your weapon, or lay down some longer combos. The gajalakas will shell the monster with explosives for a respectable amount of damage while it flails around on the ground - again, use the respite to your advantage. This can be extremely helpful for solo players.
    2) Again for soloing, be familiar with your palico's gadgets. For most difficult fights, coral orchestra is your friend. Buffs, protections, and the little idiot can be across the arena while doing it - no need to hope he makes it over to you. As soon as you get access to it, start leveling it up. This is especially important for elder dragon fights, where you can't depend on him for heals and traps don't work. The plunderblade is also really useful for farming additional materials, and getting rewards from fights you're carting on (may as well walk away with something).

    This is a fantastic video, Arekkz! Sometimes it's good to just step back and take a look at the overall process. Especially with so many of the most popular videos being speedruns, it can be easy to forget that MonHun doesn't need to be a straight DPS race.
    Really enjoyed you working through your processes and loadouts! I definitely switched from Antidote to Herbal Medicine at some point - you can't carry as many, but they're so much faster to use (which is especially handy when playing solo) and give that little health bump too.

      When there is an environmental trap like the vines or a rock just make the monster hit it with an attack and it will activate. When it comes to things like the little dam in the ancient forest reading the little note will mostly give you an idication on what to do when it comes to activating it

      The teeth outside Vaal Hazak you just shoot them with a slinger to make them fall down just like the rocks in the ancient forest at the bottom center of the tree. As for the lava in Elder's Recess if your referring to the area that is just south west of were lavisioth is at then I think that is just random as to when the volcano wishes to start erupting or it could just be you have to the monster to slam on it to for it to erupt up onto them. I have only had it go off randomly on its own even when not fighting in that room and just collecting amber.

    • @NIKromanzer
      @NIKromanzer 6 лет назад

      There are multiple types of environmental objects:
      1) Status traps, like paratoads. Just hit them and they will disperse a status cloud. Beware of friendly fire.
      2) Vine traps. Mostly located in the forest, also there is at least one in rotten vale as well. To activate them you either need to force a monster to hit them twice, or you need to spend 2 small (or large) bombs. After that the tree falls down and the vine trap is set.
      3) Objects hanging above you (boulders and fangs). Just shoot them while enemy is below. I highly recommend you to restrain the target either with a trap or a flash before doing so.
      4) Felyne supporters. Sometimes you can have some local felynes helping you out during the hunt. Not only they can accompany you on your hunts, but with high friendship level they also spawn as highly effecitve environmental traps. Most require you to mount the monster in that area, but gajalakas for example can ambush the monster on their own. Even "wild" gajalakas, who would normally attack you, usually prioritize the monster and throw status grenades at him.
      5) Supportive objects like vitalilies. They can either heal you or (like sporepuffs) hide you from the monsters view. Simply hit them with your weapon\slinger or just press action button near them.
      As you can see there are lots of different things. Just check your map for different environmental objects, you can find lots of usefull stuff everywhere.

    A nice hint for using flash pods in solo hunting - try firing flash pods straight down at your feet. If you're in a position where you want to use a flash, odds are the monster is going to be looking at you. Detonating the pod on the ground means no more wasted pods because it exploded off to the side or behind the monster you want to stun.

Sometimes as a bow gun user you should step back and heal your party with the recovery bullets then go for damage. It can mean the difference between a win and a lose.

    With tempered Kirin, people just are playing too greedy and just go ham or don't pay attention. Last week cleared that quest pretty easily with a total of three gunners, two heavy and one light. We had a gunlancer, but he chickened out luckily pretty quickly, he was pretty terrible. Kirin telegraphs all of his attacks so obviously it's not even funny. Cleared the quest with only one cart from one of the heavy gunners. Pay attention and don't be greedy. Even with Nerg there's really no reason to get hit by near any attack, they're just extremely predictable. They get a lucky hit? Don't be stupid and keep attacking, heal up. If you know you can survive more than one hit with the health you have, then you can play a bit more risky, if they can cart you with a single hit with your current HP, step back and heal up. If you know you're a reckless player and you're set on playing online, make sure you have the health and defense to not be a liability to the rest of your team. There's literally no reason why you should cart two or three times in a single fight, even a single cart should be a rare occurrence because of unfortunate stuns or your hunter deciding to take a nap when the monster is focusing you obsessively. So many people I've seen keep trying to do damage with only 10-20% HP left and cart because of it.. You're not Rambo, you're a liability for every other person in your team, either play solo or play with common sense.

      Kublai Khan I honestly doubt you ever tried it after the destruction of the Xeno/slicer meta. There's no stunlock anymore, especially since we barely even used it due to it's now extremely lackluster damage. Kirin can only be damages when you hit his head with guns because 90% of the time he has his lightning cloak active and the only way to get rid of that, is a one-shot ammo type that travels at an absolutely abysmal speed in a full arc, try hitting a Kirin with that in it's head, and you can only carry a few of them. I think you've been watching way too much footage of the outdated Xeno/slicer meta. Go ahead and fight a tempered Kirin with two randoms while you're all using guns, after that, come back and you at least look like you have some form of credibility.

    Normally in the older games, if a monster starts running/limping away, I always went for a flash bomb so I could keep my assault going.
    However, for this game, I've noticed that every monster will come back to fight you if you hit them with a scatter nut or with one the pods that they'll drop via the red glowing piece that flies off them when you hit them enough. I have actually fought and killed a Rathalos in just the nest at the smaller tree (Area 14 I believe?) because I kept smacking it with a scatter nut or with the pods it dropped when the minimap turned white.

    Tips for tempered Kirin:
    1. Always bring your thunderproof mantle.
    2. Use hit-and-run tactics. Let it get near you. When it unleashes its horizontal lightning bolts, get near it while avoiding them.
    3. Use SOS if you really are having a hard time. Though doing so means it's easier to both finish and fail the quest as there's a chance you and your teammates get struck by its OHKO lightning bolt.
    4. Attach the Antipara decorations so paralysis wouldn't be a problem.
    5. Dragon element weapons are optional but helpful for dealing with elder dragons as it can negate their abilities like Kirin's nigh-invulnerable mane and Vaal Hazak's toxic aura.

    One thing i'd like to emphasize on is the playing it safe strategy. It's important the entire battle but people tend to toss strategy out the window when they see the death symbol pulsing. (not sure if that was mentioned but when you see a pulsing skull on the minimap for the creature you are hunting, they are near death and will usually retreat to their nest to recover. At this point you can follow them and finish them off or trap them for more material rewards). It's important to remember to keep the same frame of mind you had the entire battle until it's over. If you decide to speed things up or not take the monster seriously because you know the battle is almost over. You will regret it.

    11:50 also for tempered Kirin, run a critical draw build with great sword, and play as safe as possible. Wait until Kirin commits to an attack, make sure you won’t get hit by it, smack it once on the head with the draw attack (charge or not depending on opening) and run away. I did this strategy on my 2nd run through the game and was surprised how easy it was when I struggled with it my previous playthrough. Good Luck hunters!

    Since the recent skyrocketing of popularity due to the Iceborne PC release next week...
    Another tip for in groups:
    Melee weapons come in three catagories. Big choppies, little choppies, and smackies.
    Hammers and Hunting Horns are smackies (as are impact phial charge blades and exhaust switch axes but that is far more situational), let them smack the head around, choppies leave it alone if a smacky is around, they will make you openings for you to get even more DPS and enjoy your fun combos of death, they want you to do lots of damage, so let them give you the chance to cut loose, not to mention they are really good at breaking parts.
    Big choppies are big and often slow, but hit hard and/or got the reach like Great Sword, Switch Axe, Charge Blade, (Gun) Lance, or Insect Glaive. Let them pick on the tail and cut it off as they got better reach and can get it done the most efficiently. Which ever one of these has the highest DPH gets the tail. This will make a small opening to use items, reposition, or just get a handle on the situation and normally make it safer to be near the monster. Not to mention more loot.
    Little choppies are all the fast short reaching weapons like dual blades, sword and shield, and unless there is a dedicated big choppy, longsword. You guys make us big choppy and smacky users giddy with joy when you attack the legs and trip the monster making openings for us to use our really big slow attacks. We get really pissed off when you are in our way tripping us. Trip monsters not friends. Do this and you'll get more openings to maximize your DPS and damage output, as well as help us out.
    If everyone is in their place the monster spends more time staggered and on the ground than not and the hunt ends instantly, when people step out of place issues start. Remember, there are at least two legs, a tail, and a head and only a maximum of four hunters. If there are two smackies or two big choppies, one can take a spare leg, if there is no big choppy for the tail let a little choppy take it, and if there is no smacky for the head, well, a lot of big choppies have their own ways to knock out monsters pretty damn well, as does sword and shield so let them do that. If you are all the same thing just figure out a spot for everyone to beat on the monster.
    For you ranged users, just find your optimal range and break whatever we can't hit, and piercing shots do wonders if you angle them to exit through a leg when possible as it helps trip the monster.

    As a Sword and Shield main, I find that it's best to think about any monster confrontation as being a boxing match. The most important things are to pick your shots, evade, and defend when evasion is too risky.
    Also, if you're sleep bombing, the very worst thing you can do is lay your bombs directly onto the target (if you have a low-damage weapon like SnS, DB, Bows, etc.). The reasons being is that the larger bombs have a fairly large blast radius; also having your large barrel bombs too close to the target introduces the risk that whatever you use to trigger them will wake the monster first. You want to lay your bombs one on top of the other (so that they occupy the same space) 1.5 paces away from the monster. Your trigger is usually a small barrel bomb that you're gonna lay an additional 1.5 paces from the larger bombs. The reason the bombs occupying the same space is important is because of how bombs work. If they occupy the same space they trigger on the exact same frames. We want that because we can get the same double damage bonus TWICE in the same blast. This gets tricky on slopes...
    You know what, I just might make a video about Sleep Bombing technique because I see too many people messing up.

    Long time series player here, and I'd like to provide a slightly different tip, concerning the attitude players might like to adopt. For this I'm going to use Zinogre as an example, since he's a very well designed monster for the concept.
    Beneath the surface, Monster Hunter is a very turn-based game. There are times during a hunt where it will be 'your turn' to do damage - the monster will leave openings, run out of stamina and slow down, or perhaps you or your teammates have locked it down with traps or paralysis. Use your 'turn' to go aggressive, do your damage, and focus on getting the breaks you need. For the Zinogre, this is when he's in his normal form - his attempts to charge power give you a great opportunity to hit the head, and his attacks are slow and relatively predictable, which makes dodging and counter-attacking a simple task.
    Eventually however, it's going to rotate round to the monster's turn - this is when you have to back off, respect the monster, and give some space in order to make sure you don't get bodied. Rage modes are the best example, as monsters move faster and hit harder, but another one I've noticed is when a monster starts flying. A flying monster requires a WHOLE different approach to a grounded one, as flailing at their dangling legs will leave you completely open and do piss-poor damage at best. Back off, and switch from big, flashy DPS combos to hit-and-run tactics, taking what hits you can and going for cheap shots at their legs - while not breakable, hitting a monster's legs will eventually knock it over, giving you an opportunity to do some damage. Going back to the Zinogre, this would be when he enters his 'Supercharged' mode - he moves faster, comboes his attacks together, and hits WAY harder, also inflicting thunderblight, which makes it easy for him to combo you. In this state, he holds his head high, making attacking it much harder, so a good strategy here is to go for mounts and aim for his hind legs to try and get that sweet, sweet stagger.
    Stuff like this things most hunters will already know about subconsciously, but I think it's a good thing to remember as a new player, in order to make dealing with certain moments during hunts a bit easier ^^
