All due respect to all the groups that recorded this (I have many other favorites also) but Willie Winfield and the Harptones just own this one.(its history, should be required listening in all schools)
Love all three groups. Each has done some outstanding work and given us great memories. For this particular song, my ranking would be Harptones, Devotions, and Dell-Vikings
There were so many versions of "A Sunday Kind of Love". The original was first done by Jo Stafford in 1947. The best version by far was by the Harptones, and there were two versions by the same group. This one as you can hear is the 45 version that I have, the 78 version had a bit slower pace than this one which was an alternate take.
I think that and the version from Marcels was interrested . I 'll try to find it but was difficult. Doo Wop was, is , and will be the best music all over the world
I like all the different versions I'd listen in equal measure, the slow ones like the Harptones and Dion, etc if the man wants to hug his woman whilst dancing then if the man wants to really dance the rock and roll with his woman then it's the Del-Vikings version
From my perspective, the Harptones is really the definitive version of this song, but I really like the Dell Vikings version as well for a change of pace.
I want a Sunday kind of love A love to last past Saturday night And I'd like to know it's more than love at first sight And I want a Sunday kind of love Oh yea yea I want a a love that's on the square Can't seem to find somebody Someone to care And I'm on a lonely road that leads to no where I need a Sunday kind of love I do my Sunday dreaming, Oh yea And all my Sunday scheming Every minute, every hour, every day Oh I'm hoping to discover A certain kind of lover Who will show me the way And my arms need someone Someone to enfold To keep me warm when Mondays and Tuesdays grow cold Love for all my life to have and to hold Oh and I want a Sunday kind of love Oh yea yea yea I don't want a Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday, or Thursday, Friday or Saturday Oh nothing but Sunday oh yea I want a Sunday Sunday I want a Sunday kind of love Oh yea Sunday, Sunday, Sunday kind of love
I really don't care anyone of these make's me feel good lol,I just love the music to all,and if any of you can sing it better pls do lol.Pls everyone take a look at the Earth Angels.
How is this even a question?? The Del-Vikings version is vastly superior. Their production quality isn't quite as nice as that of other groups, but from a composition and vocal quality perspective, they nailed it.They brought an intensity to the song that no one else has been able to bring.
Harptones is the best. It's probably the best doo wop song of them all too. :)
Really like this upbeat version by Dell Vikings. Nice change of pace.
Thanks for the three renditions of a deeply emotional song that many MUSIC loving listeners relate to . Each are top quality versions. ✌🏽.
All 3 are just great, but I have to give my vote to the Dell- Vikings.I just love doo wop uptempo is the best.Rock on everyone

Nice job. A great song. One of the truly classic doowop songs, Covered by many groups
A very interesting post, and you wisely saved the very best for last!
Etta James, Jo Stafford both did this song really good.......... I maybe partial but I prefer the Harptones as the best. Great "slow dance" song...
The Mystics recorded a great version too on Laurie Records.
Thanks for posting. I have been looking for this uptempo version for a long time. Sure beats the weepy sound on other recording.
Del Vikings my favorite. Also Etta James has a nice version also.
never gets old
Sensacionais!!!
c'est magnifique c'est fantastique c'est trop trop mimi j'adore 👍
the Harptones have a ghost like quailty to their rendition, very moody and haunting

"My" version was by the Del Vikings, so that's my favorite...
I WANT A SUNDAY KIND OF LOVE .. Long live Clifton NJ . Long for the old days

Harptones are the best - Sunday Kind Of Love.
so sweet

I want a Sunday kind of love
A love to last past Saturday night
And I'd like to know it's more than love at first sight
And I want a Sunday kind of love
Oh yea yea
I want a a love that's on the square
Can't seem to find somebody
Someone to care
And I'm on a lonely road that leads to no where
I need a Sunday kind of love
I do my Sunday dreaming, Oh yea
And all my Sunday scheming
Every minute, every hour, every day
Oh I'm hoping to discover
A certain kind of lover
Who will show me the way
And my arms need someone
Someone to enfold
To keep me warm when Mondays and Tuesdays grow cold
Love for all my life to have and to hold
Oh and I want a Sunday kind of love
Oh yea yea yea
I don't want a Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday, or Thursday, Friday or Saturday
Oh nothing but Sunday oh yea
I want a Sunday Sunday
I want a Sunday kind of love
Oh yea
Sunday, Sunday, Sunday kind of love
HARPTONES by a mile .
I see a 3rd version on RUclips by Johnny Velvet and the Revelation. That one made it to the "History of Syracuse Music"
The Harptones is my favorite version but Bobby Hall and The Kings do a great version on the Jax label too.
The Sentimentals (Sylvester Jackson lead) did an excellent version of this.My second favorite to the Harptones.
Harptones take the blue ribbon.
By all means, the Harptones
Love Frankie Valli "s version
Not many people realize Louis Prima wrote this song and he absolutely hated the Harptones' version.
Did anyone notice in the recent film "An Education", a female nightclub singer performs this song during a scene?
This song belong to the Harptones. No else. Love their rendiction
I really don't care anyone of these make's me feel good lol,I just love the music to all,and if any of you can sing it better pls do lol.Pls everyone take a look at the Earth Angels.
Can you spell the "Roomates"???
That an Australian group?
i like the the four seasons' version the best but of these 3 i think the harptones is the best.. i'm not as much into the fast paced doo wop
The winners are the Harptones, no question. But, hey who the hell are the devotions
The Devotions had a big hit: Rip Van Winkle. The other side of that record is a superb version of "For Sentimental Reasons." Check it out.
I really don't care anyone of these make's me feel good lol,I just love the music to all,and if ant of you can sing it better pls do lol.
tony kearney Louis Mendes
Don't ;like the up beat verision. Try the Marcels for an acceptable cover.
