  • "There is a method, a Sufi method know as dervish dancing. Sufis dance. You might have observed small children whirling, dancing round and round and then getting in a whirl... And small children like whirling. Why? -- because when they whirl, they get a deep kick, and in that kick they again feel themselves beyond the body. And that's a beautiful experience -- that's why they like it. Studying this whirling of children, Sufis have developed a method, a meditation method -- they turn, whirl. ... they will tell you to dance, and go on in a mad whirl, and remain a witness -- as if a wheel is moving, and the axis is there and on the axis, the wheel is moving...The axis remains constantly in one position, centered, and the wheel moves on it. Whirl like a wheel, and remember your witness inside as a center. Suddenly you will feel you are the center and the body is just a wheel." - Osho

It is just like when you are a small child and you just feel the need to whirl around in circles. There is something inside you that causes you to want that. I can understand that now!!!

Incredible meditation! Have tasted it in Poona with Videha! I felt indeed as it says: through whirling, discover/contacting the unmoving inside! Magnificent!
    Thank you for sharing it!

Ahhhhhhhhh I LOVE WHIRLING I've done it forever as an adult & as a little kid out side in the yard bearfooted spinning round in the grass till i stumbled down collapsing on the ground sometimes giggling staring up at the sky and just soaring & be there way up in the sky and then there is that all contentment part that ahhhhhhhahhhhhhhhhh point where all is right in my world & you snuggle on down in to a nice cat nap..mmmmmm...ahhhhhhhhh..I just didn't know it was what it was I was doing as a kid

As far as I know Rumi was a Turk and lived in Konya, Turkey. Not Persian as mentioned above. Anyway he is universal, everyone's.

Dear James1261, the best way is to go very slowly at he beginning. It helps also to focus on the hand that faces the sky, in this way you have a reference point that moves with you. As your confidence grows, you can speed up, little by little. Remember, this dance, this whirling is a celebration, keep a smile on your face. You are melting with the universe.
    Namaste

I used to do this since I was a teenager, usually while listening to music, it feels like getting high. Not sure if it was the same though, I used to connect it with very strong emotional states.

To be able to do this form of dance you begin by meditating focusing on the center of your inner being. Other wise you can not do this dance you will only feel dizziness...

    Buena semana!!!

The Earth moves [whirls] on its Axis continually ;all the Planets orbit and circle each other , Where does Man go.The Circle is the perfect truth. Why all the Planets are round ,what if they were square or shaped like a donkey The First real Musical instrument [Drum] resonates in the circle of air. Round it is... round we go ....

@elhamk07 He is not Persian. He is Türk.He lived in Konya the cit of Turkey.and His grand childrens are still living Turkey.and this isnt a dance.this is a part of Şeb-i Arus (wedding night) ceremony.Şeb-i Arus means that The death of Mevlana (17th of December 1273) marks the Seb-i Arus ceremonies, or the Night of the Union when Mevlana was united with his Creator.

Some jain and buddhist twchniques should also be separately explored by Sanyasins. Sufism may be powerful but not that pure. It, in the name of so called mystery does not allow a meditator to be with the naked truth.

u curtainly have your own way of definition for 'meditaion'. u'r not her eand u dont know whats happening in her ( ur sister ). all methodes can be used for meditation purpose like jogging, even cleaning the house, take a walk, or just breathing. the difference is awareness. u can run for an hr and u feel relaxed, thats kind of meditation isnt it? when ur mind stops working then u'r half way there.
