This was about as useful as a Scotty Kilmer video. At least it was short, thank you for that!

You can lock the Haldex *at low speeds* by turning off the ESP on most cars, it's a hidden feature they don't tell you about. It's very easy to see this working on driveways, ramps, etc. like if you put your car up on ramps for an oil change. At speeds above something like 20-30km/h it will resume normal operation even with the ESP off. I think it works like this to help get unstuck if you're stuck in mud/snow somehow, even with quattro/4motion.
To change the actual running profile of the vehicle, you need a replacement Haldex controller (HPA, Neuspeed, both market them but they're from Haldex directly); or this new thing that DAP is selling from the Netherlands company which is essentially like a piggyback unit.

at a dead stop in snow you would want the esp on unless you are perfect on the throttle otherwise you end up just losing traction instantly or digging a hole where the wheels sit. its been my experience in the mk4 r32 that if you are in snow unless the ground is flat don't stop if you can't help it otherwise you loose momentum and you just end up slowly sliding off to the shoulder because you are not allowing the traction control modulate the tq to get you out at least in heavy snow conditions I know this.

I have an '07 Freestyle and the TC light illuminates after about a minute and after that the AWD doesn't work. I really only need it in the winter and have been dealing with just FWD for a few winters now, but it would be great to be able to have even just momentry AWD to get unstuck or whatever. Based on the fact that the AWD does work when the light is out, Is there a way to 'fool' the system or bypass whatever disables it?

@@MrDellinx Not sure what kind of tyres you're using there but never been even remotely close to getting stuck in the snow with proper tyres and the Haldex. Have even inadvertently driven into some very deep snow and depressions in the road wondering if the car would get out and no problems getting going. Granted that's with a newer Haldex than in a Mk4 but doesn't matter what AWD system you got, without proper tyres you're not getting traction and you're gonna have issues.
Otherwise Haldex system should only really have problems or difficulty in off road scenarios or where wheels are completely off the ground like in Car Question's diagonal stuff. Also FYI pretty much *every* automaker says to turn OFF traction control if you are trying to get a vehicle unstuck in snow, mud, sand, etc. As said with newer Haldex systems this also activates the undocumented diff lock at low speeds, which will definitely help out.

@@tuberwag Your system could be getting disabled due to one or more of several different reasons. Can't assume this is merely something you can "fool" into working again. Could be an electrical/wiring fault, a Haldex pump issue, controller issue, a sensor issue, or internal mechanical fault. If the light is coming on it could be that it is disabling something because it can't determine how to properly operate the system; because it detects a condition where disabling would protect it from further damage; or simply to indicate that it can't operate due to a physical problem like no pump pressure, mechanical fault; or no communication with, or operational fault of, the controller.
You'd have to have the Haldex-system codes read (will most likely need something that can read Ford-specific codes) to even know where to begin. The fix could be anything from simple wiring fix, to a pump replacement, to requiring replacement of the controller or the centre coupling itself. Not really possible to tell what the problem is without doing a proper diagnosis.

It's odd because I have a 4WD Qashqai, and you can lock it to 2WD, Auto or 4WD with a button on the dash. 2WD operates similarly to default Haldex from what I can gather from the marketing. 4WD lock on is a fun feature.

Isn't that already available with OBDeleven setting "Increased traction"? Unless you want to control the power distribution in real time.

All that does is decrease the lag, but it's not full time 50/50.

As Far as I know there is no way to override the haldex to give 50/50 all the time. I am interested in hearing a more detailed response on how they allegedly have done with this without wearing out the clutch packs prematurely.
I can't help but notice the carful wording he uses at 0:53 seconds " it gives you full control WITH SOME VARIABILITIES" and then trails off. the most you can get or has been done without destroying the drive train is a NEAR 50/50 split and only while you have the throttle down 100%
Haldex is an electronic and system that transfers power via clutch packs constantly having them engaged in theory would wear them out. I would also like to know how this compares to the HPA system that already does the same thing with regards to adjustability and the United Motorsports tune in terms of how it engages the clutch packs for performance.
both systems at roughly half the cost!
Not hating on you guys im just just very skeptical after diving into this subject and having read the entire great haldex debate years ago. combined with what I have learned from the manuals and engineering documents on the haldex and system.
Id like to add that I have owned my Mk4 R32 for the past 7years and was at one point was interested in the limits of the haldex systems.

I really don't get the point of this, if you wanted a Quattro Torsen Audi or BMW X Drive you should have bought one. 😂 There's nothing wrong with the Haldex system stock its designed to behave a particular way and it does so exactly as intended.
