The Bern-Lötschberg-Simplon-Bahn is, along with the
Gotthardroute, an important railway connection with Italy. The line from Brig to Goppenstein follows the north side of the Rhone valley which provide summer warmth with the south facing slopes.
The trains are not only from the BLS, but also from the SBB. The local service train stops at every station while the many fast and inter-city trains run through at speed. Many freight trains can also be seen. Noticeable are the many combinations of loco types, especially the Re 465 which is very flexible. These locos will also be seen providing braking assistance at the rear of the "Tonerde Zug".
The weather is typical for the Rhône valley, sunshine with strong winds. To show the camera location where the recordings were taken maps are inserted in the film. "X" marks the spot.
The recordings were made in 1997 and 1998 with a Hi-8 camera and in 2000 with a digital camera.
We only use original sound recordings, without any additional music or commentary. Running time: 48 minutes.

Born in 1998 in the UK I grew up in the 2000's on my grandads videos of the SBB and BLS in the late 80's early 90's so this is just swiss railways to me.
Great video! I regret this period: now things have changed... Lötschberg and Gothard tunnel, lots of EMUS, no more old electrics like Ae 4/7, Ae 3/6... Ae 6/6...
Thanks for sharing this!!
