So I have an incredibly nitpicky correction, because Steve both got a new voice actor, and he did not. The guy voicing Steve in Tekken 8, Gideon Emery, have actually voiced Steve since Tekken 6, in all appearances since, including Tekken 8 and Street Fighter X Tekken. But because Tekken reuses assets like nobody's business, his change of voice actor was not reflected in his gameplay, which reused the old voice clips from Tekken 4 and/or 5. That's why he sounds different in gameplay. It's the first time he had his in-game voice acting re-recorded, despite having the same voice actor for over a decade. Anyway, that, once again, incredibly minor nitpick aside, I'm glad videos like this exists. I think Tekken gets to coast along a bit too easily, resting on its laurels as the one fighting game with a story and cast worth following, as the franchise itself happily spins its wheels, mischaracterizes its roster and barely does anything interesting with anyone that isn't directly related to Heihachi. I've seen this repeat with Tekken 8, where the main story is celebrated despite some incredibly poor writing, that I won't get into due to spoiler concerns, and the arcade endings once more keeping the vast majority of the cast perpetually stuck in Tekken 5. I love Steve and despite having a grand time landing my counterhits, I do agree that his in-game writing leaves a lot to be desired. As does his voice direction, as I feel like the actor was probably tasked with hamming the Bri'ish up way too hard, instead of landing on something a bit more natural, as he did in SFxTK.
You're right. I found out about this. It looks like they used Guy Perryman who recorded the in-game lines for Tekken 5 all the way until 7. It's been Gideon Emery recording the character's dialogue in cutscenes and such since Tekken 6, but for 8, it seems they've now committed to replacing Guy Perryman's voice lines In-Game.
I also totally agree about the Tekken storyline. It actually has some really cool elements to it, but most of the interesting storytelling is related to the side characters, or the soft Magic System revolving around The Devil and how one acquires Devil Powers as well as antagonists like Jinpachi, Ogre, and Azazel.
I think smash is his best voice line of them all. It feels very satisfying because it adds to the oomph factor of the animation and sound design. I generally agree that the rest is pure cringe
it's only because he says it in such an aggressive voice. it feels masculine. particularly when it hits or gets blocked. SMASHHHHHHH. it's the one aspect of steve they didn't feminize pretty much @@kylefields3951
Yeah steve went from one of the coolest characters of all time to cringe, corny, and voice acting that does not match his character or personality at all. THATS A KNOCK OUT 🤩👍🏾🎉 I think you made some good points. I think without recording any new lines you could make him way cooler by just getting rid of the random words he says. I think no more playing around is fine, but the smash, eat this, finish, that’s a knockout…just so cartoony and no one else talks like that in tekken. Especially not serious characters. Adding new/replacing lines would be SICK but I would be down to just take stuff out at this point.
Bro also talk about his nerfes. He and leroy are the only characters who got nerfed and the rest got buffed. They brougth a nerfed version of t7 leroy and steve. Im not a leroy main but the truth should be spoken
@@kylefields3951 Maybe only use scripts, no offense but it took a literal minute to even know what you're topic was. That's a 10th of your video. I don't want to discourage you but this opening could have been "I love tekken 8 but we gotta talk about steve and his talking..." That's three seconds. I wish you well, and good luck
This is a non-issue. I don't play ANY video game to appreciate it's realism. And the last thing I'm paying attention to during a match is what the characters are saying.

i always see this guy in the tekken world tour streams lol. i dont mind the new voice
He basically is Speedwagon the Boxer now which isnt really a power fantasy for anyone
This helped me understand my own thoughts. It really diminishes his character to make him so chatty.
