Could you give plastic items a layer of epoxy the uv quick drying stuff to give it a bit more integrity when it heats up. Might not bend or as much. 👍🏼
Is it possible you can make small resin rods to hold the wings together? Like put a rod on each corner of them kind of tie together...great job, thanks for sharing!!
Hey Ben!! I have a few suggestions on how you can prevent your Star Wars diecasts from melting and deforming and how you can prevent your resin from cracking and giving off exothermic reactions!! When mixing resin and hardener together, they generate heat!! Try pouring thinner layers of your resin into your molds at a time like a few hours for each layer until you get the right amount of resin you need for your projects because by pouring in thinner layers the heat disperses and the resin cures properly!! Also, try cooling down the temperatures of both your workshop and your resin because by cooling down the temperatures of both your resin and your workshop, it will help in slowing the curing process as well as controlling your epoxy resin’s exothermic reaction!! Have your resin cure in cooler temperatures until it gets to be a soft solid and then expose it to room temperature or higher to complete the curing process!! Hopefully, these suggestions will help prevent your all of your diecasts (including your Star Wars ones) from melting and deforming in your resin and also help prevent your resin from cracking and giving off exothermic reactions in your pressure pot, too!! I hope these suggestions help you in your future resin diecast projects!! :)
Wow Ben. Another Masterpiece. I've seen way out crazy wood turning, and I have done some too. You are up there. Its BEN Great Watching you Resinate your idea on this project. The camera inside the vacuum pot ... priceless. Whenever I think I've seen your best, you pop out something different. Love, Love, Love your work.
Absolutely beautiful work!! Love the color changing resin you use, and that glitter that shows up when dark. It’s too bad how those plastic toys reacts to the heat.
Ben, yet again a brilliant piece. Glad you've moved away from the plastic models. Just need a nice Millennium Falcon one now. Or something to celebrate season 2 of the Mandalorian. This is the way.
Stunning as ever Ben, noticed in the vide the convection current caused by the resin going off and that it hardens from the top down, if you ever did want to try a resin model again may be find a way of suspending the burl inverted on the container. In theory the resin contacting the burl will harden first and then travel down, could be worth a shot ?
Tip with the straw: You can seal the straw by holding a pair of pliers near the end of the straw and melting it with a lighter. Once it's melted just pinch the end to completely seal it off. This way you don't have to use so much tape to close off the end.
The "curved" wings of the fighter do not deter from the overall finished project. Nicely done and keep them coming. The fact that the attachment rod disappears is far more interesting & cool. Thanks
Um... he pointed out the wings bent, why go after him. And beside, any turner/epoxy guy knows that anything flexible in epoxy will bend or move in the vacuum. This isn’t a thing to get bent over, it’s definitely a mistake. Still, why does someone have to suggest a better idea when someone else messes up?? So what, he made a mistake and it cost him a perfect piece. Why deny he messed up?? Every single person that will see that on a shelf will say the same thing... “um, are those wings bent?”
Another gorgeous piece. Had a thought on keeping the ships from warping/melting while the resin cures. Maybe paint on thin layers of resin gradually building it up around the model and sealing it up?
What if you coated the plastic parts with UV resin and cured it for a few coats before submerging it? I might insulate the plastic from the heat and keep it from warping. I love your videos. Thank you for what you do.
From a ‘scientific’ viewpoint, there is such thing as a solar wind, and if the fighter is doing a high warp speed it could create the illusion of the wings bending. That’s would be my story about it, creative license and all.
Holy Shit!! You just gave me an idea on how to make the lightsaber Ive been trying to for weeks!! I need precasted, hollow fitting for the LED (because they break easily) and I haven’t been able to figure it out!! YES!! THANK YOU SIR!!
Once again wings bent while resin was in pressure container, Have a suggestion may work, The resin stick you made to hold the fighter up in the globe, Have you thought of making some to stick between the top and bottom of the wings to stop them bending when curing, Just an idea may work?
That little bit of a hole makes me think of a crater .That would be nice if you can make one of these to look like a surface of a moon. With lot of craters.
Hey Ben, would it be possible to put a clear resin 'stick ' between the wings of the tie fighter like you use to mount it? Then maybe they wouldn't curl like they did.
Doesn’t the resin get hot as it cures especially under pressure? I’m thinking that the deformity was caused by the heat and that bracing would only serve to give it something to curl around. But this is an awesome project and video nonetheless. Nicely done!
@@BensWorx how about treating the wings with some kind of coating before hand so they have something that can withstand heat/pressure a little better??
THIS IS THE ORIGINAL TIE FIGHTER CASTING FROM THE SNOW SPEEDER BUILD THAT WAS FILMED IN MAY! I NO LONGER USE PLASTIC MODELS

Ben's Worx So does that mean you are going to find metal models? Or something else?

I like the dipping in resin first idea, just give it a hard layer to stop the warping

This is my first time seeing somebody put a camera in their pressure pot and with the glitter it makes for such great content
I agree. I was affraid that he wont show it when just before start he changed the camera. But fortunately whole process was shown :))
It wasn’t glitter they were air bubbles.
@@konstantinethegr8 Nope, at 3:52 he adds the glitter to the catalyzed resin mix.
@@waylongroves200 oh thanks must have missed that part. But the whole reason for the pressure cooker is to remove air bubbles
Just what I was thinking
And this guys is the reason why handmade products are not cheap. There is passion and hard work behind paired with a lot of creativity
See, a true ARTIST will even show when things don't turn out exactly as planned...GREAT JOB!!!
My son (31) would love this!! Another great video 😊

This is now my #1 favourite turning video. Awesome!
Thats a lot of material.

Beautiful work sir.

I love the time lapse in the pressure pot it’s interesting to see how it hardens.
I always love watching your videos, but I still don't see the USS Enterprise!! I guess I can wait . Thanks Ben
These videos are always soothing to watch
Brush on a coat of artist resin on those plastic ships and that will help protect it from warping during curing my friend! Great job!
Unbelievable you are the best at this!!!..lot of skill and patience!!

Make a hollow snow globe so you can shake it up!
I really don't know how some people can thumbs down this, amazing work.
Thanks Mate
I didn't down it... but didn't up it either. The hole and red resin was a mistake.
Looks great in the sun. Excellent job Ben.
