  • Cryptomeria are beautiful trees with an extremely fast growth rate. They require little to zero maintenance to look incredible. These trees are about 6 years old and I recently noticed a single brown branch. Hopefully this isn't a sign of blight or disease but only time will tell. I will monitor the trees throughout the rest of the year and report back with an update video something this fall.

    I have a Yoshino Japanese Cedar that I planted 2-3 years ago. It had been growing great and in the last week we’ve noticed several branches throughout the tree that are turning a reddish brown. They’re not in one area but some branches are high and some are some are higher. We have had a lot of rain and I wonder if this could be the cause.
    I would appreciate any help you could give me.
    Thank you, Pat in WV

    What spacing are your trees? Looks good. I plan to plant some and need to decide thanks.

      Thanks. I have them in two rows but staggered like a zigzag. Each row has trees 12ft apart and the two rows are about 6 feet apart so there is a tree every 6ft

    i live in northern VA, and noticed that most of the Yoshino trees have dead spots in them, like shown in the video...I am planting a few of them this week but still not sure if this is a new disease...

      I’ve noticed the same thing recently. I may have to reach out to an extension agent to see if there is a new disease. I’m really hoping it isn’t.

    Are these yoshino or radicans? I'm trying to figure out which one is better to try out. How'd it go keeping that possible disease under control?

      I think they are Yoshino but both are very similar. I haven’t had any other signs of disease or dead limbs yet.

    Does the hole fill in later? I’ve got a Leland with this issue. It is near the bottom and easily accessible. I just don’t want the hole to remain.

      Yes, these trees continually grow out new bushy limbs from the trunk.

    We have a few beautiful cryptomeria japonica lining our yard but this brown out took over gradually over the course of about 2 years. It is spreading to the neighboring trees. Our landlord hasn't expressed much interest in saving them, but now that one is almost entirely dead (browned to the tip, and spreading to the next tree) I want to save them myself if possible. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.

      Mine ended up not being a disease thankfully. Unfortunately there isn’t much you can do for the disease from what I’ve read.

    We have one of these trees but it is no where near as bushy as yours do you think it is dying?

    • @TightWadDIY
      @TightWadDIY  3 года назад

      It may not be getting enough sunlight, could be planted in poor soil, may not be getting enough water, possibly too much water. Mine have a typical growth pattern.

      It's about 30m tall and in full sunlight but the branches are bare and just have a little green on them and plenty of brown. Has it outgrown itself as it's very bare?
