Wow! Mick Taylor was just on fire during this period in the Stones. I never really appreciated his influence or his genius fluid playing till I was older. My you I never feel to old listening to the best Rock and Roll band in the world without question the Rolling Stones...🎶🇨🇦
Love the lead in to this song. So " goes right to your brain" Stones! Who doesn't miss those days? It was more than rock..it was rock MUSIC! thanks for posting this.
That is perfectly put. Those Stones classics were great with or without Taylor but with him - man they had that lead guitar punch. Since they were basically a blues based band, and Taylor came from legendary blues band training, (John Mayall), his licks fit perfectly. Too bad he didn't stay.
I was in Cabo San Lucas in June of '84 when Keith & Patty showed up at the Twin Dolphin. Keith weaved and wobbled over to the pool bar to get a couple of colorful drinks with little umbrellas in them. He weaved and wobbled all the way back... and didn't spill an f-ing drop. Not kidding.
The Glimmer Twins - are on FIRE !! This clip stands alone as pure proof that The Rolling Stones - are one fucking great group. Mesmerising ! Thanx for uploading this jewel in the 'Stones crown. Peace. Rx
Although an outstanding guitarist, he never could embrace the wild, intense, grueling lifestyle that accompanied being in a band like the Stones. The pressures were sky- high & everyone scrutinized your every word & action. After leaving the Stones, he continued to perform individually & with other bands that were virtually unknown. He shunned the spotlight the rest of his career. To be a hi-profile rock n roll star simply wasn't him.
@zunk11 thats because Mick was more concerned with sounding like an f'ing guitar god, which he was, and propelled the stones to greatness during what was by far their greatest song writing period.
Funny how everyone seems to rag on MT for standing still, yet no one mentions BW. MT was focused on his guitar playing, leaving the gyrations to the Glimmer Twins who are much more comfortable moving around.
If he hadn't left though, we never would have gotten Some Girls, which is probably my favorite overall Stones album after Exile and Let it Bleed. Besides, Ronnie's awesome when he isn't smashed... Too bad that's not too often these days.
Funny to see how Mick totally totally consumes the mic while Keef almost looks like he's trying to avoid it...nice job though...pure rock and roll energy for sure. Have seen the Stones about 5 times from the mid-80's on and they don't come close to matching this intensity.
They filmed a few different nights in Texas and put together the best versions of songs from those nights. You can find the complete recording of each show they used on bootleg.
GGGreat! I do hear B.Vox sung in some parts that don't fit the visuals. Perhaps they were added later as an overdub: The Stones had their mobile recording facility at the time.
No Keith was really into dope at these shows, I seen him at a club in NYC once & he could not stand up....... I am so HAPPY he got his shit together, I love that man with my heart!!!!!!!
The Jagger/Richards songwriting team was a closed shop and there was no way Taylor was going to break into that. In hindsight, he should have just knuckled under and taken the paychecks like Wood does. When he left, Taylor thought he was going to have a solo career like Clapton's, but Taylor can't write songs to save his life, and songwriting was the key to success in rock music. Song Power is what it was all about.
Agreed, but ironically, he is widely considered the most talented guitarist the Stones ever had! He made great music, yet never was a showman. It was said of Pete Best, the original drummer for the Beatles, "he was a good drummer, but not a good Beatle", and that's why he was replaced by Ringo Starr. I think the same holds true for Mick Taylor...a great guitarist; but not a great "rock star", despite his valuable contributions to the Rolling Stones.
My fav "live" vocal by Keef...read between the lines, at the very least it was obviously different audio from another performance, with some clever editing like most of their live performances caught on film in the 69-72 period, to at least make it LOOK as in sync as possible....if that didnt make any sense, TS deal with it!
Riki Newton Vocals weren't overdubbed i think, they had footage and audio material from four different gigs, and just puzzled them together, i read once.
Perhaps because he was in such contrast to his predecessor, Brian Jones, who was quite the showman himself, and his successor, Ron Wood, who although not very flamboyant, is far from stationary. Neither BW nor CW were animated, but no one else ever held their positions in the band, so we never compared them to anybody else.
The Glimmer twins (Mick and Keith) appear to be jacked up on an Amphetamine, maybe cocaine? either way the performance of Keith is one of his best, while Mick Taylor is on a downer or just damn bored playing the same old stuff, he's a great guitarist otherwise.
After seeing most of the performances of the Texas 1972 shows when the Stones were at their pinnacle, I have to say something about the really poor camera work. It was very popular then to film extreme closeups, which today would be a joke. Combine that with almost total darkness and the lack of lo light filming technology and you have visual disappointment, at least for me. Still, if I had to choose between better lighting and camera work vs. this performance, I'll take the show.
He certainly seems so on his attempt at a solo here. 1:08. Doesn't sound like he's got a feel for what to do with it or where to go. Which isn't necessarily intended as a criticism, the song's not one of their better rockers.
That bass rumble.. people forget what a groovy feller Wyman was I always think. Taylor as usual is too technical and clean for this glorious mess but at least he doesn't intrude too much here.. Not to say he isn't an excellent guitarist (he is! That's the problem..) he just never fitted in with their live sound for my money..
***** One could argue that was more to do with Keith being at his creative best at the time, rather than Keith being at his creative best BECAUSE of Taylor. I'd argue that "Sticky Fingers" isn't one of the Stones' best albums too. I prefer Beggar's Banquet (No Taylor at all) and Let It Bleed (minimal Taylor)
+llanbo Some love that ass. I love that bass ( since the very first album, mono for mine). Agree with your opinion about Mick T. Anyway Honest Ron gave fun but never magic, & after Bill's departure, it was ..uh...Cuban?

50 years later and nobody does it like the Rolling Stones. .we love you!

One of my all-time favorites, by the greatest rock'n'roll band in the world ! Awesome :D and an absolute summer anthem

Mick Taylor was being Mick Taylor. The best guitar player in the band..
The best way to begin a good day !
The Glimmer Twins - are on FIRE !! This clip stands alone as pure proof that The Rolling Stones - are one fucking great group. Mesmerising ! Thanx for uploading this jewel in the 'Stones crown. Peace. Rx

Fuckin' awesome!
Oh its still out there :)
Funny how everyone seems to rag on MT for standing still, yet no one mentions BW. MT was focused on his guitar playing, leaving the gyrations to the Glimmer Twins who are much more comfortable moving around.
Nice to hear the voice of a young Keefster. Wasn't even 30 years old, here. E.g., 1:40.
This is so fucking rock n roll.
when i get some flesh on the bone....go on keef, fookin top rkid!!!
that mick taylor could play lead guitar like ringing a bell.
On Fire during that period.
If he hadn't left though, we never would have gotten Some Girls, which is probably my favorite overall Stones album after Exile and Let it Bleed. Besides, Ronnie's awesome when he isn't smashed...
Too bad that's not too often these days.
Watch Mick drink a whole bottle of Jack Daniels during a concert in Mobile AL early 70's
we all wanted to keep them happy.....xoxoxoo
rock n roll ,ya those chicklets
I won't forget ever.
Keef kick ass vocals!

I still can't figure Taylor out. I think he was afraid of Keith and didn't want to step on any toes as the new guy.
You do know that's a myth Keith said in a interview they made it up to see if it would fly In fact it's on a RUclips interview with Keith
JLaørsen Jeg spiller for Alle ,👃♥️⭐🐍☯️🕉️☯️🇩🇰🕊️
Taylor alto guitarrista
wow malcom x was a stones
Ronnie became a Stone in 1975, after Mick Taylor left.

Yeah The heroin and Rebel Yell bourbon kept the pain away Only person I've seen that looks cool wih a rotten tooth
filip huevon
That's about the most lifeless looking lead guitarist I've ever seen on a stage, esp. with the Stones!
Heroine Keith??? REALLY??? I AM SO SHOCKED! ;)
The only singer that can match the power of this band is Don Van Vliet.
And he still aint no Mick Taylor lol
Jagger vocals are overdubbed...wtf??

Once again, I'm not saying he isn't an amazing guitar player, just that he, for me, didn't suit the Stones' style.
