Interesting to hear Alain after so many years. Saw him live 24 years ago in Calgary. His maturity as a musician is really on display here. Less busy than his past solos. Every phrase has something to say and elegantly connects from one idea to the next. A true master.
@@andrewgocken517 Agreed me as well, although the first fretless player I ever saw was Percy Jones from Brand X. My mind was blown when he slid harmonics..
@@kennethschweighardt4920 Sean Malone, of Cynic and Robin Zeilhorst of Exovious were mine. But have discovered a truly wonderful new world. I played fretted for over 30 years before going fretless. Really great stuff.
@@andrewgocken517 Amazing Andrew! Keep going.. I love how expressive Fretless is..I remember when I would do a show I wanted to use fretless bass but I had to read the score and I was not confident for intonation. But after 1 rehassle with the fretted I brought the fretless and it worked perfectly, my intonation was acceptable.
Been an avid fan since 1981 after 1st hearing Uzeb in Toronto at Ontario Place ..Alain just keeps getting better and better..his composition's in this video are in my opinion, with more depth and substance than before, that 1st tune is a D-Code type idea but with an easier more harmonic/melodic connection to the listener..the 2nd fretless tune is like a cinematic journey through a European film..probably based somewhere in France..:-)..beautiful stuff man..stay healthy..
The second tune he plays here is a jazz standard called "You must believe in spring". Very beautiful song, famously played by Bill Evans. I love how Alain plays it and phrases/articulates his solo and his playing in general.

I like his playing a lot on the fretted bass. But a 6string fretless? Pleace no.
Merci M. Caron,
Waoooo c est toujours un grand plaisir de vous entendre.
Musicalement.

It's kills me when people talk great bassists and no one mentions Alain.
I guess they just don't know.
Me too! He has been such an influence on me musically. He just doesn't like to cross our border much to play in America.
@@kennethschweighardt4920 he in part is the reason I play fretless. Truly amazing talent left unheard.
