F basses are unlike anything, anywhere. vocal, powerful, sweet, raw, anything. once a person gets his or her mind around one, they cannot be limited.
Jean St-Jacques is a monster keyboard player. I saw him with caron, cusson and don alias somewhere in the mid 80's in Montreal...wow.
DR Alain Caron;composer and bass player. To be this good took a whole lot of hard work and dedication . He was great bassist back in the 80,s with UZEB, but now he has become a composer /arranger as well. Check his big band arrangement of this song with six horns, awesome. That instrument that looks like a xylophone , is a controller, called a mallet cat.
Just buy that DVD, it's absolutely awesome... Real Great Great Music!!

He just makes it look so easy.. Unbelievable.
His slap bass style is so tasteful it's really not dated sounding for the composition. It's more like really good muting of notes for staccato emphasis.

Saw Alain & Uzeb in a small Toronto club back in '81.Maybe 30 people (including Oscar Peterson)that nite & they sold their records at the door.
Mind Blowing then & still now.
Very fluent players & i'm sure Al gives huge props to guys like Jaco & Stanley still to this day.

I was fortunate growing up in an area that valued the bass as much as the guitar. My first guitar teacher was a bass player learning the guitar as he was teaching me. I studied with him for one summer and during that time I learned about 12 different scales. So in just 3 months time I was playing the major scale, pentatonic maj and min, harmonic minor, phyrigian and phyrigian dominant, melodic min, lydian dominant, diminished, dominant scale, dorian, natural minor

A true unsung hero of the bass guitar, l love marcus millers slap work but he aint a patch on this guy, the playing the writting hes the whole the real deal.
