While you could just say the entire words and ill enjoy your video and understand what you're talking about, now that i don't understand what fu means i stopped the video there's scene from keep watching, this trend of using acronyms everywhere it becomes a real problem it makes any speech bogus unbenifeciale
@@dravinknight this is a common misconception. you don't usually need maths beyond what you use in MS Excel. the only exceptions are typically creating a game/simulation, or squeezing every last drop of performance out of your code way beyond what is typical. so i would say don't bother learning maths first. also most programming languages are now so abstracted that you don't need to know that much about computers. my advice is to get a good book or maybe do a bootcamp, on the language you are interested, and most importantly do the exercises step by step. practice is the best way to learn
People like to say- "If everyone becomes a programmer, it will be saturated".
They won't.
It won't.
The average intro bootcamp or intro coding course has 1M+ students/ views.
But most of those people won't stick with it, and even fewer will continue to develop their skills beyond the basics.
If you stick with it and put in just modest effort to CONTINUE learning, your miles ahead the average person learning programming.
Yeah and not everybody is cut out for it frankly
With how integrated humans are becoming with technology, the demand for people who can develop and maintain software will only get higher. I don't see oversaturation becoming a problem anytime soon in this field.

This is such great advise Stef. And so so simple. I can share that I wish I had this advise in my early years... I'll add a cautionary tale: when you salary does double, triple and quadruple, and you let your lifestyle cost go up as well, it's really really hard to get it back down. Very very painful. Took me a painful 3 years to accomplish the feat of cutting our burn rate in 1/2. Keep that in mind as our culture dangles the shinny new toys, designer stuff and low interest loans on the mcmansions.
Ya the raises get negated when you keep on leveling up

Great advice! I actually already had most of that knowledge with finances, I’m just looking to boost my income with coding. I bet my wife and I could decrease our spending by about $1,000 a month (1/3 of our cost of living) if we got her student loans paid off ASAP, and didn’t eat out as much. We’re pretty good with our money already, so if we didn’t allow lifestyle creep for a few years, we could knock out the loans super fast and really boost our investments.
Went from commissioning engineer to software developer and after 10 years I'm back where I was. Unfortunately house prices have rocketed in that time and I'm much worse off as a result. Developer jobs in the UK don't seem to pay nearly as much from what I've seen.

Yes exactly. Lived off 20% or so of our salaries and invested all the rest in low cost index funds and eliminating all debt. Only took about 5 years of working to be financially independent.

Yo Stef, got any videos or links about what makes a good project documentation? I've hard hard time finding any good concrete info about how to write a documentation and specification that I can come back to look at in 6 months and say to myself "damn, this really helps me understand what is going on, I should buy a beer for the writer"

Small note: Those estimated salaries by Indeed to just made up from average data by the indeed server. The employer placing the ad didn't have anything to do with that.
Indeed, ads placed on indeed have little to do with the employer in general. I have talked to several employers on indeed, who said the job was no longer available and they couldn't get rid of the indeed ad. Indeed has a financial incentive to keep old ads around and make job searches return an artificially high number of results.

I’ve been thinking about attending at a boot camp for awhile, I’ve been teaching myself coding for a few months now, I’m doing ok, just not fast enough. The total Tuition will be $23900($664 x 36month) after graduation .

I like your point of view and agree with most you said but I have 2 points to make. 1) the doubling of the salary is perhaps possible in the US but European market doesn't represent such big jumps in salary 2) on the point of saving - what about a house? That costs so much these days! And when you rent in big cities you spend 50-60% of your salary just on that
Why you live in expensive city? Europe has cheap cities where you can work a high pay remoge job

I like videos like this when I'm feeling the dread of hopelessness.
I've been off an on the "coding" kick, did the indie game dev for a bit then settled into IT but realize after four years that it's very tough to leave support. The more you know, the more they want to keep you in support. Don't believe the "bootstrap, pay your dues" people. Also where I live are next to no IT work, it's either outsourced or you're the one man support that burns out.
These days I've gotten so much better with HTML/CSS I know how to use Bootstrap and getting better at Javascript where I'm coding on my own while looking up docs to get some things working. On my fourth project which eventually I want to add some kind of backend function once the main game is finished. (where your score, with entered initials, goes into a database and displayed in the top 300.)
One thing that's keeping me back is that I have to move somewhere that has more tech work. Arizona I've seen companies leave or build call centers (it's also crazy hot most of the year). With IT I'm able to save and play off 75% of student loans, though with what I have I don't know if I can afford the move. Also it's looking like I may need to get a newer car soon so that can leave a dent. Now we have a recession coming with inflation still hitting us.
Seems my options are limited to very expensive major cities, but that's from a perspective of living rural for so long since wages are low so it's hard to save. Many companies are rolling back work from home, which I don't mind since that way I can have on the job mentorship rather than the cold uncertain remote help. Hope to find something further east coast before the end of the year, though I think I need to work on PHP, Ruby, SQL after I feel comfortable with JS.

how about remote job? Work from home in rural area for a company from a big city. Is there a problem with something like this in the US? In Europe after COVID you can even live and work in different countries

I have always focused more on design over the years, but have coded html & css. I notice that every time I search for web designers it always gives me developer results!? Is there just not a demand for the design aspect and more for coding?

You're only making money from coding if you're an exceptional web or application developer. You can go into things like data admin or data science, for good money. But those involve things like SQL and statistics (totally different). HTML, CSS, JS, C#, Canvas, SVG etc are going to be noteworthy components of coding to learn
Do you recall in the first minute of the video that he distinguished between "financial independence" and "wealth", because "wealth" is a loaded term? Same thing is relevant in your comment. You wrote _"You're only making money..."_ but "making money" is an equally loaded term. Please take a moment to unpack it so that other people don't have to read your mind to know what you *intend* for the reader to understand. Thanks!

As a beginner, is it okay to learn two different languages at the same time? Example Swift and Python.
There's nothing technically wrong with it. IMO though, when first starting out, focus on one. Once you get proficient with a single language, and development in general, picking up new languages will become a lot easier.
@@timothybarela1305 i think I will continue with Swift only for now since I’ve been playing with it for a month. Once I am able to successfully build a iOS app, I’ll move on to Python. I just need to practice daily and not skip days at a time.

Swedish developer here. I do like your content but the numbers you are talking about is dreamnumbers. I hardly know anyone who earns what you just said. And with family and house that needs to be cared for there is no way to save that much. I guess I live in the wrong part of the world...

For similar jobs, the US on average, pays twice the salary you would get in the Netherlands and euro/us dollar are pretty much equal now.

Why would I look in my geographical area, I want a job I can work from anywhere, I'm not going to be a slave to a desk in an office again. I had enough of that, and there's no reason for any coding job to require me to show up in person

I got burned out after less than 2 years in coding, depressions and physical problems from it, constant noise in my ears probably will be with me for the rest of my life. Coding is terrible profession, not socializing etc.

A financially free software developer - never heard or seen one.
So how are you saving now? With inflation at 10% or more in some countries? With war, food, gas, and housing prices, you trust the bank to protect your money for 60 years? Many banks employ ponzi schemes to make more money with your money. thinking no one will withdraw more than 10% of the money, like what's happening in China and the housing crash. USA banks use the same system. Or loaning money or loaning money to other banks so many schemes. My great grandma had millions in the bank and she lost it all. Then my father had money in the bank and he lose it all when the currency changed to euro. I think it's better to use your money to make more money and to make more money . Than trusting the banking system to keep all your money in one basket. Go out make more money and more and more and invest in to everything. If that doesn't work then you are homeless so what? Money is not pure happiness and the more you have it the more ppl will hate you. If everything fails then we will have the collapse of society and at that point, money would become 0$ in value paper to wipe your butt.

In Israel even if you have the best coding projects on earth, no BS'C no job in my company, so how fast can coding make you financially free when you are not in the US... Nothing less than 5 to 7 years until you pay your student loan and find a decent job.
Try to get some good instruction on coding is the trick most is awful, that's why people give up. Boot camps are a joke that's why they changes names or go out of business
