Early development
In 2015, after Total War: Warhammer was announced but before it released, Creative Assembly announced that they planned to create a trilogy of Total War: Warhammer games.[1]
In 2016, Russian data-miners discovered plans in the Total War: Warhammer game files for a third game featuring Khorne, Nurgle, Tzeentch and Slaanesh as factions.

Total War: Warhammer is part of Creative Assembly's grand strategy Total War series. Set in the grim, high fantasy world of Warhammer Fantasy, Total War: Warhammer pits many unique races in a struggle for domination of the Old World. Soldiers clash with magic and monsters, as factions are locked in battle. But beyond this conflict lurks a larger threat: The forces of Chaos descend from the north to bring ruin and destruction, at the behest of their dark gods.
Total War: Warhammer II takes the battle to the New World across the sea, where new races fight to enact rituals and control the Great Vortex. Total War: Warhammer II is a standalone game, fully playable on its own. However, players who own the first game or DLC will find that it carries over and can be combined with the second game, for one epic experience in campaign and multiplayer among us.
Both games can be purchased in

Khorne has been real quiet since this dropped.
Slayer: "We never thought I'd die fighting with a Dawi."
Dragon Slayer: "How about die fighting a friend?"
Slayers: "Aye, we could do that."
It could be worse. He could be short.
Khorne wishes he could be this spiteful.
Tbf the last time he did this he got Tuska Daemonkilla and that's a whole mess.
slayer lords/heroes getting the immortality trait is such a troll lorewise
And this is why immortality does not mean invincibility

Funny enough, a varaint of that trope is old as dirt. We have at least one example from Greek mythology of a mortal being granted eternal life....but not eternal youth. And thus just slowly withering away, unable to die, but unable to truly live either.
The Dawi perpetual engine of grief and rage. All they now have to do is harness its power.
Khorne finds tye mountain folk quite amusing
Malaki, looking up from blueprints of a Daemon Slayer tied to a turbine: "Way ahead o' ya , laddie!"
You just described Chaos Dwarfs XD
In the lore Daemon Slayers hate lesser slayers: they rarely obey orders and just charge into anything that looks capable of killing them. They only follow the Daemon Slayers because they hope he will lead them to worthy prey. Worse, the Daemon Slayer fears that a newbie might actually manage to steal his glorious doom.
Makes sense.
Just stupidly charging into something doest mean its a worthy death in my book.
Nobody follow demon slayers...they don´t lead armies, the only one is Ungrim and because he is also king (he also wears armor) and that thing about a deamon slayer and lesser slayers is not true at all..i don´t know were do you get that
@@tunencio7288 It's from the 8th edition Dwarf Army book:
"A Dragon Slayer or Daemon Slayer is often joined on their journeys by a swarm of younger brethren from the Slayer cult. They flock towards such renowned killers, as they can be assured that, as their idol seeks his ultimate destiny, he will lead them straight towards foes against whom a worthy end might be made.
This attraction is not altogether appreciated by the irascible and laconic Dragon or Daemon Slayer, for while they realise word of their deeds or great death might now be brought back to the Dwarf holds, they are loners by nature and resent any distraction. They are committed to die gloriously fighting monsters, not to leading others or looking after newcomers. Also, although none would ever admit to it, these veteran Slayers do not want to dare chance one of their following of new mavericks getting in a lucky stroke and robbing them of the glorious final blow upon some epic beast whose death would be worthy of a song."
P.S.: Suck it :P

The amount of rage and petiness in this lord's army is enough to spawn another chaos god
Would be funny if the Dwarfs spawned a Chaos God for a change... oh wait, Hashut exists.
and thus, Malal was born
The dwarfs didn't spawn Hashut. Hashut made a deal with (read: basically enslaved) the dwarfs.
@@Salted_Fysh
They let him out of his cage, and he gave them incredible power. Hashut also is the only chaos God that doesn't screw over his followers. My favorite theory is that Hashut was once Khorne's Court Sorcerer and has done the incredibly rare skill of learning from his past mistakes.

Those who sought doom shall forever be doomed to be unable to find the doom they seek.
DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM
Isn't what happens to almost all named slayers. Being a slayer in the novels make you less likely to die
I would have preferred if they did not do the usual immortality thingy for Dragon and Daemon slayers as it really breaks the lore. Here how I would envision a better alternative:
When you reach lvl 20, the automatic skill you get is not "immortality" but "Slayer renown". What it does is indeed technically make your Slayer lord/hero immortal, but in a loreful manner. Once they get that trait, when your Dragon/Demon slayer dies, instead of just being wounded, a window event popup appears that states that your slayer chara finally met a honourable doom and that since he was well renowned, plenty of other renowned Dragon/Deamon slayer who have done a lot of battle as well heard about his luck and came to propose to serve in your faction since it seems it gives good chance to die a honorable death.
Factually, you'd get the exact same lord/hero, with the exact same traits your previous one had and had gained through campaign, and the same amount of XP and levels, except none of his skills are selected, that would replace your previous one. In the end, very similar as when Exalted Greater Daemons replace your Heralds for monogod factions, they keep XP and traits, but are reinitialized in their selected skills.
It would serves basically no purpose except for lore and immersion (and giving you a "free" immediate possibility to choose other skills), but it would be nice.
You have a mind that's wasted on what you're doing.
Go build pretty things in the world.
CA: "Instructions unclear, decided to delete slayers entirely."
. . . Someone make this a mod

@@delivererofdarknessshoguno1133 Please, don't give them ideas. 🤣
On the other side for the players it's good bc u can just throw them at strong things and they cannot die, must be good for leveling them
Across strange eons, even oaths may die.
The Slayer is the ultimate paradox. The better at being a Slayer he is, the worse he is at being a Slayer.
After all, the better he is at being a slayer, the more enemies he will kill... but the more enemies he kills, the less likely he is to fall in battle, which is the ultimate goal of the Slayer.
Khorne must be looking on in envy at how the Dawi have cultivated this entire caste of warriors who live only to die in battle.
More like social class than cast, anyone can be slayer after all, all what he need is shame his ancestors be anything.
Gotrek says hi as the worst slayer to ever live. I think Khorne likes the Slayers but is disappointed some of them still choose to use ranged weapons. (Slayers and 40k World Eaters could do an excellent version of the Spiderman pointing meme although one might have to point up a bit.)
@@consolescrub4031 Khorne is a hypocrite about ranged weapons and magic anyway. So... ruclips.net/video/1sYBx1gH22o/видео.html
Oh hey, Gotrek might find some more friends in AoS
Grotek must be the worst slayer ever. Even his world died before him.
@@scheikundeiscool4086 The Planet broke before the dwarf!
CA really said "the slayer will have an immortality buff (it's for not dying from a random Bretonian peasant, trust me)" and "the Empire heros will have an on death effect".
It's all lore friendly though.
What is the Empire hero on-death effect? The Engineer has one?

@@axios4702 There's a lesson there. Don't take magical amulets offered by strange death wizards which they promise will prevent you from being corrupted.

Fyreslayers are different. They aren't really seeking death like fantasy slayers are. Also, Gotrek is the only real slayer ro survive into AOS because he went through Grimnir's chaos gate.

OBJECTION!!!! You can infact kill a Demon Slayer by also killing his entire faction!!!
Wait wouldn't that also mean your killing off an entire faction of dwarfs..........DAM YOU CA!!!!!😭
Anything killing an entire dwarf faction would actually be a worthy doom though, Grimnir is happy.
@@axios4702 Grimnir is also mad because dwarf beer was also destroyed with said faction!!!
Yes, the Slayers will all spontaneously die if their last building is destroyed and they start taking attrition.
But that would mean they had to either start *losing* or *throwing* the battles, a truly *cowardly* and *dishonorable* act. To die shaming the ancestors is even worse than being unkillable.
Omg the literal "i have no mouth and i need to cry" lol
I like to put a Thane with guardian beside the Demonslayer to add insult to injury.
Which is worse? Being a daemon slayer or being recruited by one?

This is glorious
Handing immortality to someone that seeks glorious death on the battlefield sounds like something Tzeentch would do.
Yay!!! I was waiting for this one lol, someone needs to make a mod for slayer lords and heros that removes immortality from level 20 and replaces it with something like a ton of oathgold and money or something
Glorious doom, when this character dies massive increase to public order, leadership, oathgold and increased melee weapon strength all armies faction wide massive increase to his armies replenishment rate, and weapon strength

A fate worse than death, being Edged by death
Truly a fate worse then death.
The Daemon Slayer is just doing a little bit of trolling
epik lore
They saw an opportunity to die in glorious battle to an immortal xD
You either live long enough to become immortal.. or see yourself dead at the hands of your slayers
So he is Deadpool now
Tbh I would have implemented something that increases vigor and stats for each death for slayers.
Garagrim Ironfist : Glorious DED for ma DAD!!
Also Lv.1 Garagrim Ironfist : Wounded for 5 turns
Where do I find it Funny that the slayer lords get immortality when they're whole thing is to die fighting something three times their size
Doesnt it have like a hour cooldown? U know the ability..
Finally, dawi solving the demographic problem for serious.
Yeah this is my only issue with slayers in game. The general in me denies them their one wish, but the umgdawi weeps for their endless suffering.

@@Tarriff They could get pre-battle stolen by a Slaneesh lord, where their exquisite stamina and fury would be made good use of until they perish. Perish... Fall in battle, yes. Definitely nothing else.

Dwarf slayer(Even the death avoids him)
Lore friendly way would be to give them immortality regarding enemy agents' actions, but they could still die in battle :-)
Their aspirations of a glorious death came up short.

@@MinscFromBaldursGate92 HA-HAAAA! YEEEESSSSS!
No alliance!
I found it an absolute strone of genius to give the slayers an ability that makes them unable to die. I guess they're already unbreakable, but what the fuck CA? Dying is their whole plan.
Also, when i first recruited a daemon slayer, i was genuinely hoping he wouldn't get immortality, at least not automatically. I get that it's not great for gameplay reasons, but at least let us choose.
Yes, letting us choose for the Daemon Slayer could be a simple and nice idea.
He's achieved immortality!
What of the implications!!!?
It's not kin slaying if they can't die
This is almost as cruel as in "crysalis" where they gave the berserk ants a special ability which revived them after they glorious death in battle.
And none of them read the description beforehand...
Yeah when I saw that slayer heroes and lords still got Immortal I thought... well that's unfortunate.
This is why I have a mod to disable immortality
Yeah... I feel bad for the slayers, I think they shouldnt have immortality, and instead when he's killed you should get a replacement that gets a certain pertentage of experince and an xp gain bufff, so even if he dies you atleast get a fast replacement hero to take it place
Whereas the Changeling cannot lose a campaign, the slayer daemon cannot win a campaign.
Why not simply go on an absolute rampage then? Surely their numbers will diminish...
He gave up after gaining immortality
@@Tarriff You can't just give up on being a Slayer. Then it means to go to the Realm of Chaos in hopes of a good death. Khorne's realm to be precise.
Too dangerous. Khorn cannlike it and resurrect them.
@@user-fu2tx9hp4r Oh right. It would've been a fantasy equivalent of the same situation Tuska Daemonkilla is in. Only difference would be that Tuska and his boyz actually love it.
They should just join Malakai who would call them unkillable and some lucky ones would get posted on undestroyable thunderbarges.
That´s not Daemon Slayer is Gotrek XD
The curse of Gotrek strikes the entire demon slayer rank. Now they too will never know death. Unless their faction gets destroyed and the player hasn't installed the defeated lords mod...

All Dragon and Daemon Slayers:
NOOOOOOOO!!!!!
A fate worse than death. Unable to find the worthy deaths they seek, all because of their bitter spiteful immortal lord. So the Slayers decide to give him his own fate worse than death. Very fitting.
I’ve been wondering for a week or more now. If a Necromancer raises a Slayer from death. It’s like the greatest dishonor or disrespect they can give.
Dwarves don't really animate. Infact only humans and monsters can be. Non lore gw didn't want to make undead models for all the races.
@@mdb45424 That's not like this everywhere in the lore.
Actually, I think I remember there is some event or something for Dwarven factions that speaks about the Vampire Counts animating dead Dawis. I think it was a grudge in the old version of the grudge system.
Also, in the End of Times book series, Mannfred rises a lot of different dead things, notably including Skavens.
Typically, it would be weird if creature as noble and powerful as Dragons could be raised but not other sapient beings... Just humans and dragons...
@@mdb45424 that´s not true at all...dwarves can be animated, in fact there´s plenty of tales about dwarves of Zhufbar fighting vampires
The best thing about the Slayers is they're terrible at dying
