Point is, they're like Hollywood Undead. If you can get past the cringe crunkcore songs which definitely didn't age well, you have a pretty decent rock band. The lyrics of the songs I mentioned aren't that bad - especially "Lullaby", which is definitely their best song.

They’re really great musicians with a lot of potential. They just ultimately choose to tone it down and create a lot of the same riffs and progressions that could be played on radio. This new song is pretty mid overall, there’s a lot better material that they’ve put out, especially as a first single. Just look at their single from their last album, perfect example. And the album cover, I gotta say is one of the more cringe inducing artwork I’ve seen this year. They’re just begging to channel their inner Beach Boys with that one.

But I will say, the speaker of a poem (or song) isn't always--or rarely is--the actual writer of it. I don't imagine Chad's that much of a sleazy hornball in the same way I don't imagine Dickie Allen actually wants to eat dead babies. I do wish he'd drop the character though. Feed the Machine actually had some solid lyrical writing to it, and I was hoping we'd stay on that path instead of heading back to Silver Side Up and Dark Horse shlock. They are phenomenal musicians. They play Pantera covers note for note at their shows. That's not easy. That's the crazy thing. They're formulaic. But people aren't aware of how hard it is to find the formula for popular music and succeed. It's almost impossible. They've done it consistently their entire career. I hate 98% of their lyrical content. But their songs are good pop rock/metal songs and represent landmarks in my life. Even though I've never bought an album or gone to a show. Like CREED they deserve credit. If everyone could do it they would. Writing hit songs is hard. There's no way around that. There are bands that are better musicians and make way more challenging and immersive music. But making hits over and over deserves recognition. I don't hate them for that. I actually wish they were the kind of band that did both. Made quality music that are also hits. Like The Beatles, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Queens of The Stone Age,Pantera or Foo Fighters. They're not those guys. But what they do is not able to be achieved by most. You can't deny that. Especially this consistently for this LONG. Great video! Got a lot of laughs!

One thing you've gotta give Nickelback credit for is their heaviness. They have plenty of songs that are verging on metal but somehow still get plenty of rotation of pop radio. They're super talented from a musical perspective and I feel like they're one of the last big bands bringing metal to a pop audience. I love seeing a more visceral reaction out of reading Nickelback lyrics than Infant Annihilator lyrics. But I will say, the speaker of a poem (or song) isn't always--or rarely is--the actual writer of it. I don't imagine Chad's that much of a sleazy hornball in the same way I don't imagine Dickie Allen actually wants to eat dead babies. I do wish he'd drop the character though. Feed the Machine actually had some solid lyrical writing to it, and I was hoping we'd stay on that path instead of heading back to Silver Side Up and Dark Horse shlock.

They are phenomenal musicians. They play Pantera covers note for note at their shows. That's not easy. That's the crazy thing. They're formulaic. But people aren't aware of how hard it is to find the formula for popular music and succeed. It's almost impossible. They've done it consistently their entire career. I hate 98% of their lyrical content. But their songs are good pop rock/metal songs and represent landmarks in my life. Even though I've never bought an album or gone to a show. Like CREED they deserve credit. If everyone could do it they would. Writing hit songs is hard. There's no way around that. There are bands that are better musicians and make way more challenging and immersive music. But making hits over and over deserves recognition. I don't hate them for that. I actually wish they were the kind of band that did both. Made quality music that are also hits. Like The Beatles, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Queens of The Stone Age,Pantera or Foo Fighters. They're not those guys. But what they do is not able to be achieved by most. You can't deny that. Especially this consistently for this LONG. Great video! Got a lot of laughs!
