I remember Harry saying he was 70 yrs old. No one in the room contested this. At the time he was actually 40'yrs old and looked 90. He also revealed that he'd never applied for a Social Security number.
Big fan of Harry...but the droll way in which he speaks...the indulgence he takes in letting the sounds fall out of his head....just comes across as the way old queens talk about themselves...can you imagine Harry and Truman Capote both sitting together, and competing for your ear? Anway he's a fun guy...and a bit of a terror.
Harry had the gift of "the shining." When I visited him in the Hotel Breslin, he spoke directly into my brain! No, it wasn't Project Bluebeam, but I am sure Harry inspired 'em!
Yes. All the original six long playing records came from his collection of 78's. He was also a very accomplished painter, a musicologist, an author, a filmmaker and an all around genius..
I know that this is not what happened, but that was my first impression and it made me burst. So I thought someone else might feel the same way about it.
She is way busy and has asked me not to email her anymore. She's great, though. Harry Smith poster on my front door, sent to me by Rani. A thing of beauty! You probably have good stuff to contribute to my channels! Best to you.
@slobomotion Saw your videos; am not sure how I can contribute; I'm a song writer and a classical singer; see"Singer with No Name" trailer for my movie. Anything I can do to help the cause though I am not sure how I might fit into what you are doing
Wow. I got here from an Ed Sanders interview. It's amazing to encounter Harry Smith as he was! Thank you so much for offering us this archive.
Good lord, he was 68 when he died?! He doesn’t look a day over 7,000
Same age as my dad and he looks like he could be my dad's grandpa.

Nutty as a fruitcake and I mean that as a compliment. I wish to God I'd gotten to meet him.
Harry Smith was a Genius!
Thank you for sharing this. I have only seen parts of this interview in the past.
The epitome of success

This is the kind of person you could leave alone in a closet for 2 days and he'd keep talking and talking until he passed out.
Is this person the producer of "American Anthology of Folk Music".
Yes. All the original six long playing records came from his collection of 78's. He was also a very accomplished painter, a musicologist, an author, a filmmaker and an all around genius..
Harry Smith is to Folk as Dr. Demento is to Novelty

he is very crazy for the psychedelic drugs
He sounds exactly like Jerry Garcia- another polymath in his own world
man is odd
Now, from the little I know of Smith, it's just as likely he is a professional troll as he is an incompetent loudmouth.
I don't find this guy sympathetic at all.
