The series even gets you to care about bjorn. A guy who literally says his favorite hobby is just killing. The quintessential viking. Everything askeladd said he hates represented in one person. And he was askeladds only friend.
@Overlord are you talking about berserk as a manga? I don't see how it was butchered. If you mean the movie/anime modern adaptations then I understand but Berserk as a general piece of fiction and as an universe keeps its glory through the manga no matter how bad adaptations it gets

why askeladd never told thorffin it was flokis plan to kill thors ?..and he himself was only a contract killer. it would make more sense if thorffin avenge his father by enacting his revenge on floki other than askeladd. Why thorffin never asked askelladd about his motive for killing thors? Thorffin during his time with Askeladds band probably understands vikings as hitmen and mercenaries who only kill for money.

Askeladd was a character that hard to understand. He hates vikings, live as a viking. sacrifice and honor are stupid things for him, but he sacrificed himself for his people with most honorable way. Sees thorfinn as a tool but sametime sees him as own child. He was a contradiction man. And one of my favourite characters.
People who have been through hell realize that being a compassionate person is not always something you should reveal to others. Askeladd made himself appear callous and greedy to hide the pain he felt for his mother. His wrath was a product of that tragedy that he relives over and over again.
Can't say I've seen an anime where I've hated a character so much but also garnered such respect and admiration for at the same time, I'm really conflicted about how I feel about Askeladd
He was both the greatest antagonist and protagonist arguably of all time. Has an amazing story, is decisive and calculated, is really strong but not like OP. And he's overall a pretty good person the way he raised Thorfinn. Even while Thorfinn was trying to duel and kill him the entire time he still kept his calm and made him strong.
He did some truly awful things, but his death still made me sad. He barely finished swearing loyalty to Canute, and you could see his potential as a great advisor, but he died before he could do anything. Makes you wonder what could’ve been different if he survived.

Still absolutely love him. He was a real and raw man. Sure he was a viking, a pirate, a murderer at times but he was also a very cunning man with great charisma, leadership skills and his calm and positive mindset. He was a Jack of all Trades ⚔ 🦁 ♥

How can they just move those THICK swords like so EZ. Great editing. The reason why I respect Askelad not because he is a bad person and killed many people but they way he loves his mother and sacrificed himself for his home made me love this character. That's a warrior.

I liked him from the start. He had charisma and charm to him. He only grew on me from that point. He's great!

Really great character. In chapter 176 of manga i confess that I shed a tear when Thorfinn recognise Askeladd as his father figure.
