I really enjoy your channel. Since my mom died, I don't really have anyone to ask questions or do projects with anymore. And since I found your channel, I've found that you answer any questions I have and you do awesome tutorials and projects. I wish she was still here to see your channel, I know she'd enjoy it. :) Thanks for doing what you do!
2-1/2 hrs later...a very new sewer now has her very own handmade yoga bag! It did my first encasing and drawstring. Really easy following the tutorial! Had a decorative fabric for strap, so I just folded in half wrong sides together, sewed, and right side out. Worked great! THANKS for a great step by step tutorial! :)
Thankyou for the tutorial. I haven't sewed or done yoga literally in years but I bought myself a cute mat and matching fabric and now I have a great reason to get out there!
Kathleen Smothers: Yea. The link is in the video description box directly underneath the video. I always include the links there. :) Here is the link in case you don't see it: amzn.to/1DPg8H7
Great useful bag, I made mine from heavier canvas like material I had on hand, it is very durable, like a camping bag. I finished my edges before turning down the top for the drawstring so no raw edges! Added a squeeze type sincher for the cord. Thanks for the great instructions!
Hi Vanessa, Thank you so much for helping me out with so many projects....I'm not a sewer, but with your help you make it look easy and I really enjoy watching your tutorials....God bless you
my first project was a tablecloth and this was the second! so i am very much a beginner but this was so easy to follow and i did it in one afternoon! fits my mat perfectly :) thank you so much!
I figured out how to make these before finding this tutorial. I like to use upholstery weight material, and for a more finished product, you can put button holes for your drawstring. I really appreciate it when a teacher shows the best technique rather than teaching how to do something that ends up with raw ends that need fray check, raw seams, and puckered seams - when there are ways to get a more professional looking finish.
Thank you so much for your tutorial. I am about to make a yoga mat bag and cannot wait to try your project. I love how you explain (and repeat yourself at times to remind!) and since I am quite the novice, feel a little more confident now.
This is the correct video for anyone who wants to find out about this topic. You notice so much its almost onerous to argue with you (not that I truly would wantHaHa). You undoubtedly put a new spin on a subject thats been written about for years. Great stuff, just great!
Vanessa thank you so much this was an amazing tutorial. I am a beginner when it comes to sewing but I have just finished my third yoga bag. I am making them to give to my daughters! It was so easy to follow you and I just love this bag. Thank you so much!
Vanessa, thanks for the tutorial! I'm on my 7th yoga bag now. My friends and family members all demanded their own bag, when they saw mine. :) I am a yoga instructor and a beginner at sewing. Have a nice day! Erika
I am on my 6th yoga mat bag because everyone is loving them! I have a little hint about how to handle what I have come to refer to as "the circle of death".....lol. I am right handed so my right hand of course is working hard to get as few "tucks" as possible and I find if I slip my left hand up and inside of the bag I can work the fabric from that side also. This eliminates as many tucks as possible! I have been using Cotton Duck fabric and it really works well! Thanks so much for your helpful and fun tutorial!
I found a lightweight cotton that I really liked so I just lined it with another cotton and it seems to work great! Thanks again for the easy tutorial!
Great tutorial- thanks! It came out great! I finished the sides so my drawstring opening wasn’t raw and then added a little bit of interfacing to the base.
thank you for this video! 🥰 your idea matches the way i wanna make my yoga mat bag, amazing direction and clear explanation!! will make my own as soon as i bought fabric for it ☺️
Your videos are so great and easy to follow! I know what all my friends will be receiving for this birthday's this year (even if they don't practice yoga!)
Excellent! Really clear and I loved the speeded up bits so the momentum carried on fluently. I now feel I could manage this project. Thank you so much.
i just started doing yoga and making the bag was so much easier than yoga lol thanks for the video my friend and I love our bags I added a pocket on the outside for our cell phone and keys and I put velcro to close the pocket and on the pocket I embroidery our names
will use this as inspiration for making a bag for my long and heavy electric bike battery, as I would take the battery with me, when leaving and locking up my bike!
Love the bag! Could you do the side seam first and then do the top casing? That way when you make the casing the ends face inside, no fraying. Iron your casing down, mark where the edge of the casing will be. Open the casing, then lay the strap down on both ends and sew from the mark where the casing hem will be, then all the way down. Open it out and iron the edge inward and then sew the casing.
Thanks for this tutorial! I’ve been looking for a yoga mat bag to fit my jump rope mat which is impossible to find. It’s 36x20 so i guess i need to make a custom bag myself. This tutorial seems so simple I wonder if I could make one with no sewing experience and a brand new machine I’ve owned for 4 years but too scared to open the box 😂 seriously
Great tutorial! I'm planning on making this for my mom's Christmas present :) I was wondering how I could make the strap adjustable? Could it work by sewing a pre-made adjustable strap instead of the long fabric band?

I love the pinning the straps a little past where you sew the hem up the top. That way you know it will definitely get caught.
Yup! It really helps!
