    The fact that ERA isn't modeled correctly to explode makes a lot of sense and explains why TOW2A missiles, which have warheads specifically designed to defeat ERA often fail to defeat ERA.
    It would have been nice to have a demonstration and comparison with western and Russian ERA to prove your Russian bias point though.

      The point is less to specifically prove bias and more look at areas that disproportionately benefit Russian made vehicles. I'm not convinced the issues with ERA modelling isn't just engine limitations tbh

    Lately I've started seeing BTR-80s pop up in my tier (I'm up to a Pershing), and while I don't have experience fighting the more modern MBTs, I will relay something that just happened today. I came across a BTR-80 parked in an open space in a town. I was perpendicular to it. Didn't see me coming. Slowed down, lined up, and shot it right in the side, more or less between where the driver and gunner would sit with a 90mm round. Probably a distance of 30m. Zilch. Not only did it start moving after this, it started firing. I lit it up with machine guns as well, which had no effect. I then shot it again, and it again did nothing to it. All of my weapons get knocked out and I'm only saved by another tank appearing behind it.
    The fact that an APC with less than a fraction of the armour thickness my rounds can go through can just withstand that kind of punishment is a shocking example of this faction's OP nature. They just take hit after hit that should destroy, disable, or knock the crew. I've lost crew and gun components, even an entire tank, to a shot on a drive sprocket or idler wheel. Shoot their turret point blank and its like nothing ever happened. Especially laughable when its a T-34, given the effectiveness of such tanks against Pershings in reality in Korea.
    I even shot an SU-100Y at point blank in its ammo storage. Twice. The animation even showing the round and debris flying through the shells inside it, and it did not catastrophically explode. The exposed crew sat there and eat .50cal ammo and kept operating as normal.

  • @BARelement

    Isn’t Ukrainian ERA on the BM OPlot shown to be massively effective via the fact it’s multiple ERA stacked upon one another? If that didn’t work, they wouldn’t use it right? I don’t know, I think we are skipping over tons of things without sources/explanation.
    Further more it’s angled to slice APFSDS, and HEAT charges… You said angled ERA doesn’t work… This goes against everything we’ve seen from NATO, and the Eastern Bloc nations… If ERA truly was less effective while angled we’d see squared off ERA mounts for Russian and NATO tanks where they’d look like rectangles. But they don’t.
    The BM Oplot is a great example because it’s one of the most well protected tanks out there. Yatagan beating it out. As far as the west maybe the Leopard 2A7. But east? If we exclude the T-14 or make it raw protection? The Oplot WINS.
    None of what you said would make sense. If it did, no MBT would look like, or be the way they are. There would be no Kontact 5, no Relikt, no Duplet , no Malachite, no ARAT 2, FYIV, etc. Either I’m confused, or there are some massive mis assumptions/over simplifications in this video. I’m not sure. But pls explain thoroughly, because it isn’t tracking for me at least based on what we’ve seen.

    • @BARelement
      @BARelement 5 месяцев назад +3

      I must add that, what’s being said didn’t line up in simulations of armor vs APFSDS either… Computer simulations aren’t 100% and don’t account for production imperfections, etc. But that’s more understandable than the words being spoken. So idk. Simulations if even normal Ukrainian Nozh ERA degrades APFSDS a good bit, I’m tempted to say they have the BEST ERA (that I know of). I’d like a Ukrainian Tech Tree just for that reason 😂.
      So when it’s being said that ERA at angles is “less effective” / “wouldn’t do much”. Or “can’t be stacked upon another” is just really odd, and throws me off entirely based on what I’ve seen in simulations, FIELD TESTING, and reports by manufacturers worldwide.
      It makes sense in the real world to have a lighter tank with addon armor that can take maybe one hit to a specific area as you don’t want to be getting hit multiple times to begin with. The likelyhood a shot comes to the same exact spot is low too. Aiming for small weakspots is a videogame thing.

    ERA does provide a lot of protection in real life, especially modern ERA with dual plates being effective against APFSDS. In some places war thunder fails to model the functionality of ERA correctly but aside from a few instances of it overperforming (ERA needs to be less effective at a flat angle, Nearly all of the protection of dual plate ERA relies on increasing the amount of material in the way of a penetrator, angle is necessary for this) IMO its a passable representation. I also think that the overperformance is more of a modeling error on ERA itself than intentional Russian bias. Outside of the soviet tree, ERA is not nearly as common; thus most of the bullshit happens when dealing with Russian vehicles (not to mention the fact that Russia has such a large top tier lineup). If they fixed the angle issue, ERA would be a lot more fair than it is right now; I would say balanced. Yes, WT cannot simulate it realistically, but it needs to be effective in WT because in real life ERA represents an incredible increase in protection over plain armor. I think that the idea of an 'ERA resistance' stat for projectiles could definitely do a lot as well, but to me the most optimal solution seems to be to both fix the angle problem and to improve the game engine itself-something WT desperately needs anyways. IMO there is plenty of more crucial bullshit that counts for Russian bias. I would love to see more videos in this series!

      HEAT (High Explosive Anti Tank) is a general category of anti-armor weapons that use the focused energy of high explosives (per the Monroe effect) to create a metal projectile capable of penetrating armor.
      -
      A subclass, the EFP (Which is used in several modern HEAT weapons) creates a more solid metal penetrator allowing it to fly longer distances while retaining coherency and, this effectiveness.
      -
      Admittedly, I did oversimplify it in the video as all EFPs are HEAT, but not all HEAT weapons use an EFP, but it wasn't really the focus of the video.

High hardness rolled armor generate little to no secondary spall. guess what the armor that protects the ammo rack of the T series MBTs is made of? HHRA. On top of ERA on the sides eating a lot of the shots energy. HHRA is singlehandedly the reason for them surviving so well for so long.
    Obviously this doesn't even go into how K5 and Relict on the front of the tank protect the Russian MBTs from the initial penetrating shot. its essentially a jail out of free card. Kudos to the Russians for creating KERA but in game that almost always concludes in the Russians getting the upper hand if the opponent does not shoot them in 1 of two front weakspots. one of both of which result in the HHRA of the turret bustle being hit and generating no spall.

    My hot take: there is no nation defining bias of any kind but rather an overreliance on badly modeled and implemented mechanics/systems. When russian ammo doesnt detonate when struck everyone looses their mind but then a Leopard or godforbid an Abrams does the same noone bats an eye, further more - good crews can survive fuel tank detonation in the fighting compartment and still be able to operate the tank so don't be surprised when shooting the lower plate on an T-80 You only take out the driver, set the tank of fire, maybe get a mobility kill and then die because the guy shot You

    • @vorpalmachine
      @vorpalmachine 5 месяцев назад +3

      the difference on one part of your argument is that T-series uses auto-loaders, which do not have blowout panels and when detonated, pop the turret off the tank. Leo's and Abrams are hand loaded, and their ammo is kept in a spot with blowout panels, which when the ammo is detonated they "blow out" the top of the turret, causing little to no crew damage. The reason this doesn't kill the tank is because in war thunder, you only die when your crew cannot operate the tank. When it says "Ammunition exploded" it is really just your crew dying because of the ammo, same thing with the fuel tanks exploding.

      this is exactly what happens. the only bias here is the confirmation bias.
      btw, ammo not detonating (blowout panel protected excuded) happens for one 2 reasons:
      1, the tank has 2 piece ammo (like the soviet MBTs)
      2, the ammo is not modelled piece by piece, but by a whole rack, or bulks of a few (like Tiger II ammo modelled in bulks of 2)
      ammo not detonating happens 99.99999999999999999999% of the times to these.
      i have seen to this point 3 cases where single piece individually modelled ammo blacked out (2 times on AMX-10 RC and once on M-51)
      it is a bug in the game and not bias.

      Thank god someone who agrees. I main Japan so I’m often switched between both sides in games, but I definitely struggle killing Abrams and Leopards consistently as compared to Russian tanks like the BVM and T90M. They have perhaps the largest weak spots on the lower glacis and typically die on the first shot when aiming there. I have played for years and have yet to see the “Russian Bias” people keep screaming about. Russian tanks pop the easiest imo 😅

    • @o-hogameplay185

      @@cleverlaziness exactly. most good players know there is no bias because they don't have skill issue, unlike the ones that scream bias.
      they are claiming bias for years now, and they are yet to give a single evidence for it.
      all they have is a massive skill issue and confirmation bias.

      I will also add the mentality difference in teams. Team blue often gives up easily, have 0 awarness and play for kills. meanwhile red team does teamwork and has better awarness (on average from my experience). I learned to give up my expectations when playing with team blue cuz it will often lead to frustration and spouting things like "why can't you see him" ,"why can't you help me", "why are you shooting there", "why are you doing nothing" or the most one i come across: "Where is my team?"

    Can agree with majority of the stuff except for these:
    4:01 if what you say is true then anyone who ever used claymores would need their legs amputated, but they haven't. Its almost like backplates for directed explosives do something.
    Skipping shells off of Relikt (and such) will have better results than if it was direct. The devs said this themselves and simulations show it aswel. You're effectively increasing the angle at which the projectile impacts while at the same time applying counter force. This would lead to 'bouncing' AP shots off the sides at greater angles because by the time it comes into contact with the actual armor, the velocity is lost.
    Also you forgot that some vehicles do double stacks of heavy ERA on the front plates.
    Overall if they were to fix it, it would become a one shot thing (as it should) but it would increase the effective armor by maybe 30% than what it already was. It gains something and loses something so im in.

    • @semicooperative7188
      @semicooperative7188  5 месяцев назад +2

      Claymores do have a rear danger area. It's smaller than the main frontal danger area and the main fragmentation is concentrated in the front, but you definitely don't want to be standing within about 5 meters behind one going off.

    • @semicooperative7188
      @semicooperative7188  5 месяцев назад +1

      To address whether it would add or remove protection to strike ERA at an off angle, it heavily depends on the shell, the armor type and exactly how extreme the angle is. It's less a case of "the game is definitely wrong in every situation" but rather that it uses a very simplistic universal rule to represent an inherently complex set of physics which heavily benefits having ERA

    I do thing there is Bias in this game but in a different way.
    1. The only thing i can say was "Russian Bias" as all refeer is the Bakelite on some russian Props
    2. Yes there is "Russian Bias" but this is more about some mecanics that gaijin do not add until a russian vehicle has it (amphibius vehicles, smoke granades, etc) and others that were added only to russian vehicles and take time to add to other nations even when they had it.
    3. The other instance of "Russian Bias" was the fact they need to add a russian vehicle per update no mater what and with the old event system there was always a russian vehicle. (Germany and USA do not always get them)
    4. Everything outside that is either "Premium Bias" (When they add overpowered premiums to waithing to players to buy them and then nerf them) wich happen in every nation (this is often agravated by they shitty BR system/balance algorithm) [We cannot forget the existance of planes like the xp-50 or the wyvern or tanks like the SAV.20.18.48 or the VIDAR. Obviusly there are Russian examples Su-11 and Mig-15Bis ISH and the 2s38 ], this also happen when they add a new vehicle (but not that often) but is a way to lure players to grind a new nation (Same with some event vehicles)
    5. Everything else is confirmation BIAS caused by gaijin broken mecanics/bugs. ERA eating bullets [VOLUMETRICS/BAD CODE], Ammo not exploding [Not only a Toptier problem it happend in all BRs with a lot of vehicles outside russia, in the comments someone put an explanation], The IS series dont die to bombs [IDK what happen there lol], AIM-7 being bad [Skill issue/server issue, is a 50/50 sometimes is because you did an awfull launch other is because the hamster died, this also affect R-24 and R-27ER but because the R-27ER has the ability to relock the target you can save it]

    so game engine limitations and simplified modelling is russian bias now. got it.
    i am looking forward to the next episodes of this series, because if they will be like this one, you will make a big fool out of yourself.
    there is no russian bias in the game. for 10 or so years people were screaming this, yet nobody could every give any kind of evidence, not even a small one. when they tried, it turned out to be their own skill issue and/or lack of game knowledge.
    (oh, let's just ignore the fact, that china has heavy ERA too)

    Hi love youre vid
    I completely agree to the things you talked about in the video.
    There are two things that whould also help the bias in my eyes. First is do you judge a tank by its design or how it was produced, this mainly effect ww2 Russia and late war Germany both countries especially at the end of war had production issues in steel quality (Russia treated too hot - > harder but often break at even lighter forces, germany not having alloys avaliable).
    Second is the problem of obscuring information russia tents to increase performance of their equipment while nato does the opposite saying there equipment can do less. This naturally leads to a Russian bias since the official sources say so, wich is understandable but frustrating.
